Snowing in Colorado on 9-21-09?

Agreed Dick T, Nice tone behind the typing.

All I want is a rational discussion.

When the rednecks start screaming "global warming my BUTT!" at the first sign of snow, I take offense.

Rational discussion with those people is like trying to convince religeous nuts that evolution happens.

They spout off, I'm gonna spout off.

My astronomy prof summed it up best:

CLIMATE CHANGE (not global warming) will mean an immeasureably small increase in global temps, but it will show itself in more extreme weather.

Cold will be colder (huh???) dry drier, wet wetter, storms more intense.

It sure looks like that is happeniong from here, but I would like a rational discussion with others to compare notes.

INSTEAD, people seem to take it personally when I want to even discuss it

"HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME BY WANTING TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE THREATS TO OUR WAY OF LIFE???"

WTF.

SORRY AJ!

I am concerned for you, but Texas should be safe right?...

unless there's...............

DUH NUH

climate change............ ;) just kidding.

How is it looking?

It was 58F this morning and the high today is going to be about 75...but then back to 90 by Sunday so I am okay for now...what we did get was high winds (read 60 mph) when the front came thru...not much rain with this one...only an inch...

here is what I came up with to support my plants...I thinks it pretty cool looking....got them all in a corral....roflmao...

Global warming doesn't matter.
We're all gonna get killed to death in 2012 by Mayan zombie prostitutes or something, anyway.
Go light your charcoal grill inside your in need of a tune up SUV while someone is mowing your lawn with a gas mower at midday if you want, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE THE INTERNET TOLD ME SO ZOMG MAYAN APOCALYPSE

Put that drawing in a time capsule. When it's dug up in 10,000 years time it will help future generations understand our civilization.

So, did it actually snow in CO? I was on vacation there once and they told me that July is the only month it never snows there.

I was on top of Pikes Peak on my 12th birthday (August 12) and it snowed...actually have 8mm movie film my dad took of me standing in the snow flurries next to the elevation marker...

It is 53F this morning here and right down chilly...but as I said, it is supposed to be back to 90F Sunday...it is that time of year here...

I think it was snowing in the mountains which wouldn't be that rare to begin with but I thought it was snowing in Denver and Colorado Springs...

It did snow in Colorado Springs. The last day of summer, to be precise. An old high school friend of mine lives there. When he mentioned it to me i asked him what he was doing and he said "what do you think? I'm waxing my skis".

weather and climate change in the middle of North America

I live at the intersection of three weather patterns. At roughly the edge of three different geographical regions.

I have seen it hail in February. My roses have bloomed three days before christmas- and froze on april 16th. It was cool enough to have the central air off for 3 and a half weeks of July this year- but I've kept it on all september. It was over 100 degrees for at least a month in 1992-which beat the record temps of 1979. I have lived through winters where it snowed on Halloween, and years when it didnt snow at all until January or February, and then we had blizzards, sleet and ice alternating for two weeks.

A friend of mine said he liked living in a city that had four seasons, but he'd prefer they didnt all come in the same week. We consider weather forecasters just a tad more credible than astrologers, here- and the wise always have a blanket, a sweater, and a pair of sandals in the car.

I live very close to the New Madrid fault. I am of the belief that one day, California is going to get hit with enough mudslides and earthquakes to "tumble into the sea" to quote a favorite song- and the earth is going to open up just east of my house, splitting North America in two, and
I will then be the proud owner of beachfront property.

During the Flood of '93 (of the Mighty Mississippi) I realized that Nature is very big and human beings are a very small part of that Nature. What egos we have to imagine that we can control rivers! yes, what we do makes a difference, but rarely can we foresee all the consequences of our possible actions or factor in all of the other consequences of all the other forces that are not us!

Our favorite local philospher/comedian is Mark Twain, who said, "Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it."

It is a good idea to plan how we are going to live with it, IMHO.

I like the pepper herding dog.
:)

 to you celeste.

We are small, and nature is immense, but to think that the billions of people on earth have no effect on the delicate balance is scary.

If our habitable planet was so indestructable and simple, then I think we would know about more of them out there, rather than the round, dead rocks and gas balls that inhabit our known universe.

We won't be around to feel stupid, but wouldn't it be a shame if we screw this one up?
