Nice work Shane! One thing that I've noticed on these glogs, is that the plants that go through damage, when they recover, they end up being super bushy and seem to look better than they would have without going through whatever ordeal they endured. Anyway, looking great. Love the flower and pod pics. Keep up the great work.
Yeah...just gonna take a little longer for pods. I'm pretty patient...NOT! I snapped a few more of another newly opened flower on my other Aji Omnicolor and one on my Pequin.

A close up...you can see the little pod in there!

I should have some more open tomorrow on my Wild Brazil too. I didn't catch the other pics I took at their peak. Those guys are going to really be stacking on the pods!

Your plants is crazy awesome and that smoke pepper looks ONO(means good in hawaiian)
Already powdered them!!! Going to be great. If you haven't tried blending some smoked peppers with your Mayo you're missing out. Freaking D'Licious!!!

Well I WAS out of superhot pods...but my daughter's boyfriend who wanted to try one never nutted up and ended up returning the Yellow Scorpion pod I gave him to try...So be looking for another video review tomorrow. Gave everything a bath in the bodine this morning and a good dose of fish ferts this evening. Another 10 days in the 70's with warmer night time temps so think I'm finally set! I also transplanted about 25 of the ornamentals that sprouted near the compost heap. So if they make it I'll have a ton of Bonchi candidates in the fall. For now they're going in as accents around the garden. There are still about 20 more growing, and I am going to just let them go where they are for now. I installed the drip system in the small area that my last video started at...along my Southern wall and planted one of the Bhuts that I was supposed to sell in there :shh: . Lol Go big or go home I guess! The final drip system should go in tomorrow for the containers...staying busy keeps me from just sitting there trying to watch the plants grow.

Check in tomorrow for my Yellow Scorp review!
Shane

Edit: forgot to past in the pics!

Here's the Yellow Trinidad Scorpion review video....
Funny, the yellow scorpions were the first peppers out of the box of goodies I tried (just ate small pieces with dinner), then it was the last one as well. The first time it seemed MUCH hotter and the chinense flavor seemed almost overpowering, but after I progressed through the supers especially the Red 7, Brain Strain and Barrackpore and their crazy heat and powerful flavors this one was REALLY good and a nice manageable burn. I could have eaten and enjoyed several of these. The burn continued for some time after the video was over, but in a good way if you know what I mean...

All that's going on here today is a little drip system work. I still haven't installed the drip line for the containers or some of my non peppers. Queensland Blue Squash (Pash), Papaya (Pash), Mandan Parching Lavender Corn (Pash), Cucumbers, Okra, and some flowers: Sunflowers, Nasturtium (Pash) and Dahlias for the wife and kids. I am also going to post my final list with credit to all the nice folks that shared/swapped seeds with me so far this season. I plan to use Greg's (Pic1) pantyhose isolation method on all my varieties and really pay it forward for next season's growers. I met with Andrew (Cayennemist) yesterday a fellow THP newbie and passed along some of my extras from David (Griff) and Dave (gnslngr) he looked to be almost as excited as I was when I received them so I know they found a good home.
Can't stress enough how much I appreciate the generosity of everyone that has made my season what it is so far! Including all the cool folks listed above, Seed Train 2012 (and even the not so cool ones :shh: ), Matt (mjdiamond), Jamie...the list goes on. If I haven't typed your name out yet its not because you're unappreciated there are just so many to thank and give credit to!

Hope you enjoyed the video...wasn't that exciting, but it does show that these peppers can actually be enjoyed! :onfire:
Have a great conclusion to your weekend folks,
Shane

Hit the hammer on the nail with that review Shane.
Perfect fresh eating pepper.

I will save you some seeds from one of the fatter hotter pods and send you some?

Yeah...funny how the first go around they all seemed a bit overpowering with the chinense flavor. The heat seemed a little worse too. Still hot the second go around, but not terrible just a great burn. Didn't even really notice the chinense flavor either second round. It was sweet, fruity and hot all about the perfect level. Can't wait 'till some of my yellows ripen. Bhut, Chocolate Bhut and 7 Pot Primo are all lining up to try to be first super to open a flower Yellow Bhut, 7 Pot Monster Infinity and Douglah are all right behind them outside the supers Fatalii, Chocolate Hab and Red Lantern Habs are all getting close too. I really need to just stay away from the plants for at least a week. Every time I go out there I find a little bit of ugly that I just have to trim off. If I keep that up, there will be nothing left!

My son and I munched some fresh Jalapenos off the plant today. All 4 of my Jalapeno overwinters are loaded down with pods...but 2 of them lost all their heat??? So I gave my son a handful of those which he loved. I warned him about the next one I handed him...but he didn't listen and ran for some milk. Funny, a few months ago those Jals (pretty hot by Jal standards) would have given me the hiccups and sent me for some milk as well...now its like eating spicy cheetos.

I think I have rats eating my cherry tomatoes and green beans...grrrrr. If its not one pest its another. We have a city easement behind my property for drainage, and everything from rats to coyotes frequent that thing. I set a home-made live catch trap to see if I can get the sucker!

I had a BA weekend...don't wanna go back to work.
Take care everyone,
Shane

Awesome review Shane sorry hear about the new invaders hopefully you find something to get rid of them. In my last check up today I found a bunch of flowers opening up so hopefully they can start producing some pods soon. Good luck on the trap

Hard luck with the rodent problem. I feel your pain on that one. I hate those vermin. I hope you catch a bunch of them.

Make sure you try the omnicolor at all stages of ripening. Crazy good taste for ornamentals. The only plant that didn't sprout for me this year. Pissed because they are one of my fav plants. Great looking flowers on them.

I didn't grow any either...though I meant to, I kept adding to the grow list, and they just got crowded out. Definately agree with the Brain Strain commentary....you CAN eat them, but just because you can ,doesn't mean you should! The yellow scorp seems to be hit for edibility-in fact most of the yellows I find to be good eating peppers...I am looking at the first ripe yellow seven pot of the season, and will be scarfing it for midrats.Funny you mention to constant monitoring, I had been paying such close attention to the "grows" that I hadn't even looked at the overwinters...so what a suprise to find them podding up already-15 or so yellow 7's, 20 plus on the Chocolate Bhut and the Choc Habs!
Good luck on the critters...I've been keeping the yard stocked with Grey Rat snakes ;)...the ones that survive the Jack Russell patrols do a good job on the tree rats and cane field rats.

oh-and that is an awesome shot of the omniclor flower...damnit -another that I have and didn't plant!

That Omicolor Flower is BA! Sweet update. Good review of the Scorp. Now you have made me want to add that to my list for next year! Hope things go well with the drip system install.

Hope these don't turn out to be the before photos...another storm in the forecast tomorrow. Between the hail/bugs my plants have taken a beating. Here's a mini update.
P1010173.jpg

Chocolate Bhut...a tiny bit of hail damage on this dude, but all in all pretty healthy and the fastest mover right now.

P1010175.jpg

Budding up nicely...hope they stick!

P1010177.jpg

Fatalii, The Hail topped this guy for me...and he said thank you may I have another?

P1010178.jpg

Same plant from overhead...it's in a 5# Container.

P1010182.jpg

One of my in-ground Fatalii's (shhhh I just put another one in the ground) This guy has taken a while, but is catching up to the container plant FAST!

P1010179.jpg

Goat's Weed...hail didn't phase this guy either. Over 3ft tall already. Finally starting to branch out a little.

P1010185.jpg

Lets see if I can remember all these guys...near to far front row first...Annuum Scotch Bonnet, Bishop's Crown, Goccia D'Oro, Black Naga (small by the sprinkler head), and Manzano. Back Row near to far...Devil's Tongue Brown, 7 Pot Primo, another Chocolate Bhut, then I have an empty spot for either an Aji or a Scotch Bonnet...A little shady in this spot but gets about 5-6 hours of mid day sun and another couple hours in the late evening, then on the end I tossed some of Sawdust's Tepin seeds in the dirt to see what sprouts.

P1010186.jpg

This Manzano is growing super fast and budding up nicely. Its almost double the height it was when I showed it in the Barrackpore video.

P1010187.jpg

Trinidad Scorpion...I have 6 or 7 plants that look like this after the hail storm beat them up...I think he may just pull through!

P1010181.jpg

My home-made live catch trap...whatever it is is gonna be in there tomorrow morning. They pulled a fast one on me last night and took all the bait without tripping the trigger...I made a few sensitivity adjustments and I think I'll get him tonight. He/they are robbing me blind...started with the few ripe cherry tomatoes on the bush behind it and is now stocking up on green ones...grrrr. I still have about 50 tiny tomatoes on the bush, but I had almost enough ripe for salads for the family. They've also been hitting my beans.

All in all, things are going very well in spite of the setbacks. I now have 95 plants if you don't count the ornamentals...with them its about 130...many of those are still just coty's though so they won't all make it. Still have some ornamental seeds that haven't sprouted yet (Explosive Ember, Tri-Colored Variagata, Black Pearl). May actually pot a bunch of them up into my 3.5's and give them away or sell them??? Besides that all that's left to put in the ground/final containers are the 4 Big Jims which are in gallon pots now, 3 Scotch Bonnets (going on their 3rd set of true leaves) and 1 Aji Amarillo which has almost filled the 3.5" with roots. I put the Fatalii I mentioned earlier (gives me 3  ) and a Peruvian White Habanero in the ground today. Still have more than enough room! :woohoo:

Really hope this storm isn't too bad. My plants could use a break!
Thanks for checking in folks!
Shane

Plants are recovering nicely Shane. Amazing how fast they start to grow once they hit the 1 foot mark.

Looks like Ratt stew with some spicy powder mixed in for lunch

Everything is looking good Shane!! This storm (if it ever comes!) isn't going to phase the plants, I think they will enjoy a little cool down after all this hot weather. Nice catch on the rat, poor guy didn't stand a chance! lol

Also, what is the deal with a chicken and a pig? One of the Warrants I work with has them on his feet and says it is maritime lore. Figured I would ask the maritime expert!

Nice. When animals mess with the garden, it gets personal. Well done.
I'm sure later in the season when I have tons of tomatoes to spare I won't mind as much...or even notice, but when I am trying to put the first home grown tomatoes together for a salad, yup REAL personal!

They're surviving...some even thriving. In spite of my mistakes and everything mother nature has thrown at them! Some of their growth is amazing. Really evident where I did and did not do so well during soil prep! Very tempted to cook it up and at least feed it to the dogs...but my daughter would have skinned me right after. She took it to the creek and set it free.

Beginning to wonder if we're going to get anything but wind...really blowing here. A little worried about the most top heavy plants. My Poblanos are getting a core workout.

Shane! I was laughing at your 550 cord trap saying awwww thats cute. Then I scrolled down!

Great Job!
Been building and using these traps since I was a kid. I've caught fox, raccoon, badger, skunk, mice, rats, possum, squirrels, rabbits and even birds. There's more, but I can't remember them all. We even use a variation of this to trap big groups of wild hogs in a big (maybe 1/4 acre) pen. In that case its cattle panel all the way around burried a foot deep not a box, but the trigger and trap door are almost identical. We've catch up to 20 hogs at a time in there. They enter the trap on one end and the trigger is on the opposite end so a bunch are in there before they finally trip it.

***Anyone reading that's wanting to attempt this, BIG HOGS CAN AND WILL JUMP THE CATTLE PANEL ONCE STARTLED!!! So dispatch them from inside a vehicle or another safe location starting with the biggest and baddest!

I took a trap just like this to work on base after Public Works couldn't catch the rats that were getting into our geedunk (that's concessions to all you non military folks) and spreading sunflower seeds, corn nuts and rat terds all over the office. All my guys laughed at the dumb redneck Senior Chief...next morning the biggest rat I've ever seen (aside from a nutria) was in there. Mean sucker too. Wasn't hiding in the corner like the one in the pic. Instead every time you would come anywhere near the trap it would jump and start gnashing its teeth on the wire. We gave that one a burial at sea...best part was after that all the non-believers wanted to borrow my ghetto fabulous trap. Last I heard it was catching squirrels at a fellow Chief's house.

Also, what is the deal with a chicken and a pig? One of the Warrants I work with has them on his feet and says it is maritime lore. Figured I would ask the maritime expert!
Just an old superstition, supposed to keep you from drowning.

Thanks for checking in everyone...hopefully the next update will include some open super flowers and not a bunch of storm ravaged plants!
Shane
