Thanks Shane, I am gonna keep one of my TS Reds now that I saw that before/after of the Choco Hab. It looks identical, and now I got something to look forward to.

I am also in the same boat with the surplus. I got about 36 or so left over and that is AFTER sending some to some friends, and giving others away. Damn, what to do..what to do....

woohoo! TOP OF PAGE!

I was expecting Paul to snag the top! Lol...yeah, they're coming back nicely. I have given away maybe a couple dozen already...and I have those plus 4 more left to get rid of. Really thinking about keeping that choco hab...but I already have 2 going so I'll probably let it go.

Here is a partial annuum update.
P1010202.jpg

Bell...They're all podding up nicely. This is the only one with any size....Yet.

P1010204.jpg

Jalapeno...going to have a few pods. These pods stay small. About 50 total on this overwinter...Old growth is kind of yellow, but the new growth is coming in nice and green.

P1010206.jpg

Fish pepper finally starting to show some variegation

P1010213.jpg

Full pic of my other Fish...no variegation on this dude yet??? Still a great looking plant

P1010209.jpg

One of my Mucho Nachos...I tried a couple of these and was unimpressed with the heat. I am going to let the next round ripen fully before I give them another shot.

P1010208.jpg

The upskirt on another Mucho Nacho...they are all loaded down.

P1010210.jpg

Cayenne (long thin) loading up for round 2 harvest

P1010215.jpg

Top shot of one of the Goat's Weeds...

P1010216.jpg

One of two annuum Scotch Bonnets Loading up 3 pods set...and looks like about a hundred to follow.

P1010217.jpg

Finally one of my Tepin pods...tiny! I don't think it's going to get much bigger either! Wonder how many of these I'll have to pick to get some powder?

Much better than a rat update! More to follow tomorrow or Sunday, hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Shane

Lookin much better Shane. Hopefully that rat problem is under control and you won't have to worry about those getting chewed up. :)
Aaron

Lol...I keep trying to kill these plants, but no luck??? Yeah...it was a good sign to have no rat in the trap this morning. The first one I caught I was like YEAH...then the next one...rut roh!

302 likes!!! I am now FAMOUS! first I'd like to thank the THP for providing the venue. Next I'd like to thank all my loyal fans... :woohoo:   I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!

Moved the trap to the other end of the garden...rat #5 was in the box this morning. I've ID'd them as Desert Woodrats. They're a natural inhabitant of the area and the good news is they're not garbage/sewer type rats or big disease carriers. Instead they feed on plants/nuts and berries...which in this case are my tomatoes.

I bet they're LOVIN' those tomatoes too... Can't say as I blame them. I think I might possibly kill for a vine ripened tomato about now...

Everything looks great Shane!! After looking at your pics, I now need to start some fish pepper! Very cool plant! :)
Never had one, but they're supposed to be delicious! Only one of mine is showing any variagation, and not much yet. I am hoping as the season progresses that they get more. The peppers are variagated also and show red, white, yellow or even purple stripes. I've seen some really cool pics of them and hope mine look the same.

Your glog is coming along nicely! Its good to see your plants are popping out peppers!!! :) Nice work!
Thanks Mega! Yeah, the annums make this stuff look easy! I think next weekend I may be able to take some pics of at least open flowers on my superhots! (crossing my fingers) Going to be a while before any ripe ones come along, but as long as I can go out there and at least see a few pods developing I'll be happy...

Shane said:"Instead they feed on plants/nuts and berries...which in this case are my tomatoes. "

Be thankful its your tomatoes, INSTEAD of your nuts...

I know you mentioned it earlier, but what the heck(wow..I said "heck") is a Scotch Bonnet annum.....taste similarity or just looks?

Melissa said:"....I now need to start some fish pepper! Very cool plant! ", they are indeed......and I haven't seen mention of one here lately but another cool one is a Purple Naga Jolokia-which I got thinking it was a Chinense, but it is an Annum, 4' tall ,Purple foliage ,really cool flowers, cayenne type(long thin) purple pods that turn reddish brown or red. Will post a pic in my "the shortest grow log/glog" when I get back on the dirt next time.

Thanks Shane. Will throw these guys in 5 gal container with blue ribbon soil tomorrow night. Grateful for an opportunity to continue to grow these plants. Hope to send you all pods from these plants.

Very thankful...although dealing with them has been a kick in the nuts! The "early" scotch bonnet I got off a seed trade or train..they were labeled scotch bonnet yellow, but when they came up annuum I thought they were eithr a cross or mislabeled. Greg (Pic 1) told me about the early annuum version, and they look to be growing true to that variety. Unfortunately they are a mild...which I am thinking will be like a small odd shaped bell pepper. I have three of the real deal going now thanks to Matt (Mjdiamond) but they are way behind.

I have seen pics of the purple naga jolokia...sweet looking plant! Not starting anything else this year...but maybe I'll look into one of them for next year.

You're very welcome! I felt kinda guilty for not throwing in the chocolate hab as well, but my larger ones are not looking great and this one is recovering nicely. I saw you listed that one on your grow list, so I assumed you had one going. Once in some bigger shoes that Manzano should really take off, along with the Goccia D'Oro and Bishop's crown. I would leave the Yellow 7 pot in that small container a bit longer, watch watering them too much. They are in Moisture Control soil and have not needed watering almost at all with the rain we've been getting lately. As far as the Caribbean Red goes...I would put that guy in the ground if you can find a spot. They are the only variety that my inground plant is already outperfoming my container plant. The Amigo Diablo seeds I included came from Griff and I would like you to give me an update on how they do since I didn't get around to starting any this season. The rest of the seeds I thought you might like...don't even remember what all I threw in there??? Hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for checking in!
Shane

No new pics...but I do have two new seedlings I discovered today! The new additions are tri colored variegata. I also potted up the 4 big jims to buckets and put my aji limon in the ground. Sold off/gave away the last of my excess plants, so all that is left to transplant are the 3 little scotch bonnets. Can't wait 'till they're in the ground. Things are looking great out there. The warmer nights have started putting the pollen back in their flowers too. I wasn't getting many pods to stick, but today I noticed all the blooms had developing peppers growing through. Their growth rate is also picking up. Should have some great photos next weekend, and maybe a garden walk through vid??? I dunno for sure about that one, those things take forever to upload....Wait! I lied, I did snap a couple today. Be right back...

So...I decided to add a little smoke to this batch of Manzano powder...here is the series.
P1010218.jpg

The Manzanos, Jalapenos (already lightly smoked) and some Jalapeno placenta from the most recent bunch of poppers...

P1010223.jpg

This batch was really ripe for the first time in a couple batches. All the seeds were nice and black and look viable...

P1010219.jpg

After about 5 hours in the smoker...the Jals had already been added to a jar of mayo for my favorite sandwich spread. (if you haven't tried it you're missing out!)

Tricky part about Manzanos is they are so thick that they are really hard to dry...so I slice them into thin strips and pop them in the dehydrator...
P1010222.jpg

P1010220.jpg

This is after about 4 hours in the dehydrator...the house smells FANTASTIC!

Had to throw something in to make it "grow log" worthy...so one random pod pic from day before yesterday.
P1010205.jpg

Poblano...I had to stake all the poblanos today. They are about to be LOADED with pods...

The rat battle continues...I have now caught 7, and I am certain I will have another 1 or 2 tonight. Already noticed an increase in the #'s of developing cherry tomatoes on my plants so the trapping is paying off! I wonder how many tomatoes those little sh*ts have squirreled away???

Thanks for checking in folks!
Shane

Come on Shane, you know it's not possible to go out in the garden and NOT snap a few pics!! Things are really picking up huh? Next weekend will be some great updates for us Cali peeps! :D

I actually didn't get any garden pics today! I was too busy. I cleaned out and moved my garden shed and staked those plants...spent a little time with the fam, potted up those 4 plants (had to drill out some buckets) and put the aji in the ground put the crap back in the shed...and damn it was DARK!!!

Great update shane! That powder is gonna be magic! I love the flavor a smoked Jal adds to anything! Are all the stems are your pablano plant then? Mine is loading up with buds and if half of them pod out i think the whole plant would just fall over!

I'm loving the fresh manzanos that I have been able to buy recently - how does the powder compare? I'm going to have to keep in mind your jalapeno mayo trick.

Btw. My wife loved the powders. We threw it on some spam the next day. Then on our way home she kept bugging where I put the ziplock full of your goodies. We went to pick up a couple aerogardens from craigslist. And she was craving go put some on her pringles. Went to the back to look to no avail. When we went to the store. I nearly threw her outta the car and flipped to see the aero fall on the manzano and GOC. They're fine. Couple leaves lost. Will update you with pods. Anyways. Great pod pics. Wish we had time to look in the back like I planned to. Btw. Where you at the Oceanside pier today. I swore I saw you there.

Shane, I bet that powder will be absolutely delicious. Loving the pod pics, keep them flowing! You're battling rats while I'm battling rabbits. While they aren't paying attention to my pepper plants yet, it's only a matter of time. Problem is, I believe they are getting in from under my gate, so I there's not really a good way to block them from that. Also got a few nibble marks on some leaves from what appears to be a caterpillar. Haven't found the bugger yet.

Your plants looks like they are rebounding nicely. Keep up the good work!

Keep your eye peeled for a cutworm. Sounds like their M.O. They come out to feed at night then bury themselves before sunup an inch or two down in the soil next to their last meal. If they get big enough, they can cut down your seedlings close to the ground and hide underneath the fallen plant to feed.
