STC3248, Just Another Grow Log! Holiday Harvest!

Still waiting on the supers...but the rest are sprouted and under lights. This will be my first attempt at supers. Fingers crossed. I am so lost in the labels. I don't know how some of you keep them all straight??? I know I got most of them right...but had a couple random seeds pop up under the starter pellets...lolEdit: This was my STARTING listJalapenoBlack CobraMucho Nacho JalapenoBellPoblanoCaribbean RedChocolate HabaneroAnaheimCayenneTrinidad ScorpionBhut Jolokia Red/Yellow/Chocolate/White/PurpleFataliPequin ChiapasAmigo Diablo Bombay MorichDorset NagaLg Yellow 7 Pot7 Pot RedDouglahBishops Crownand OrnamentalsHere is the FINAL revised list! lol yeah right! My 10 year old is responsible for the artwork on the cups!

Thanks Greg, I'll give it a shot...They'll get a dose of epsom tonight as well. Good news is my garden soil is around 6 ph wise, so I should be good once I transplant.

Re-potted the worst looking plants today. Diagnosis is wet feet...that Kellogg soil performed really well out of the gate, but it appears as though it started to settle a little and hold water down low. I had a bag of Kellogg premium that I had started using and that's what I repotted in its not twiggy like the standard stuff and drains better (for now). I added a little espoma soil acidifier but very little. The PH was already between 6 and 7 so not too bad.
We shall see???

I hope you get the yellow thing squared away. Getting the watering down
has always been one of my biggest challenges in gardening. I tend to overwater,
so this year, I'm making a concerted effort to be more watchful. It's great following
your grow log. I just saw your garden space. Lots of work but worth it. You had a
great helper!

Ughhh...every time I tell myself I am DONE planting something irresistible shows up! I didn't want to let the cat out of the seed train bag but I'm looking for input and opinions. So if you're on the seed train don't read any further unless you want to know!
New seeds aquired:
Fish
Wild Brazil (Cumari)
Tepin
Aji Omnicolor (trade not train)
Black mystery pepper (thinking black pearl)
Tri color variegata
Yellow Scotch Bonnet
Goccia d'Oro
Red Lantern Habanero
Super Chili
Rooster Spur
Brain Strain
Billy Boy Douglah

I only have room for MAYBE 4 or 5 varieties (maybe a couple more if I can keep a few of these in small containers). If you could only add 5 of these to your grow which would they be?

Edit:
Here is what I have going already...
Peruvian White Bullet Hab 0/2
Kaval F-1 0/2
7 Pot Primo 0/2
7 Pot Monster Infinity 0/2
Devil's Tongue Brown 0/2

Established Plants:

Mucho Nacho Jalapeno x8
Cayenne x6
Bell x4

You can try to add some perlite to let the soil drain better in case the situation continues.

Thanks! Was really leaning toward fish already! Also I have 4 pequins doing really well...so I was actually leaning toward Cumari over Tepin...or both. What are the differences between tepin and pequin? I know cumari is similar but is a chinense which I though would be different. Let me post what I have planted too. I will edit above. Thanks again for the input!

The first photo was taken on Feb 1st the second today the 3rd...amazing how fast things can start to turn around...

P1000067.jpg

P1000076.jpg

Rinsed the roots, added some espoma acidifier and changed to Kellogg Premium soil vice their standard mix...Drains much better for now. What a difference a few days makes! Color is coming back and you can see that the new growth is moving again!

P1000079.jpg

One of my Scorpions is going off! I was mistaking wilt from the move into the greenhouse/sun for a need of water and they were staying too wet. Lesson learned, They have all really started to go without the wet feet!
P1000080.jpg

One of my Fatailii's

P1000081.jpg

Couple Bishop's Crowns with a couple Chocolate Habs behind.

P1000082.jpg

These ornamentals make it seem easy...all the damage is from our cat, which is why the plants are now in the Ghetto Greenhouse...

Can you spot my garden buddy?

Still looking for inputs on the new seeds! So share your thoughts!

Sorry I don't know enough about peppers to vote
Your plants really are beauties, Shane. Nice save. I'm really
going to watch the water after seeing your examples. Thanks
for sharing this episode with us.

Yellow Scotch Bonnet, Brain Strain,Rooster spur, Goccia d'Oro (had to look up), & Fish or Tepin
You can try to add some perlite to let the soil drain better in case the situation continues.

So I planted:

Wild Brazil (Cumari) x2
Tepin x2
Aji Omnicolor x2
Fish x2
Yellow Scotch Bonnet x2
Goccia d'Oro x2
Red Lantern Habanero x2
Brain Strain x2
Billy Boy Douglah x2

Rooster Spur
Tri color variegata
Super Chili
Black mystery pepper (thinking black pearl)

So I layed off the super chili and rooster spur because I already have a bunch of cayenne and goatweed going that are similar use wise...I chose not to go with the tri-colored or mystery black pepper because I already have a bunch of ornamentals going and I thought adding the aji omnicolor was good enough on those for now (may start some later once I get everything else in the ground or potted into 5 gals)...I already have a ton of supers planted and a bunch of those are 7 pot varieties...but I planted the brain strain and douglah anyway because I want to be able to share some seeds next year. Last but not least...I have a real soft spot for wild peppers so I just couldn't pass on either the Cumari (Wild Brazil) or Tepins. I think those, the Goatweed and the 4 piquins I have going already should be able to winter over in the ground here in Socal.

That is IT...unless of course I end up having more room than I thought...lol
Thanks for looking,
Shane

Micro update...

P1000093.jpg

My plants...if you look closely you can see the casualties from the other day when I didn't get home to open the GH before a few fried.

P1000088.jpg

The green is creeping back in to the ones that got waterlogged. I caught it pretty quick, and they're looking tons better! On the left are my cayenne and mucho nacho, they're all budding out and around a foot tall already.
Today they got their first drink since I noticed the yellowing...They went 3 days in 80+ degree heat before they finally started to wilt...they also got a 1/2 dose of fish emulsion...

P1000090.jpg

Red Missile going off! These things grow themselves...moved them all outside to keep the cats from eating them. (notice all the leaf damage)

P1000086.jpg

Purple Bhut...these things are BEAUTIFUL and growing like weeds! Pics just don't do these plants justice...

About a month from plant out! I may put the tomatoes in the ground a little earlier and put some lights on them for frost protection...really pissed at that groundhog for putting doubts in my head! Hopefully on my next update I will be installing the irrigation system for my beds if the tax $$$ comes in!

Thanks for looking!
Shane

I would say tepin, brain, scotch bonnet, fish and aji omni color.

oh and your plants look happy and that snake shot is sweet!

Jamie

Man, your little greenhouse is kickin'! Everything looks great - wouldn't have noticed much of a problem if I didn't already know what happened. When you started your ornamentals, did they take a long time to germinate and sprout?

I went with:
Wild Brazil (Cumari) x2
Tepin x2
Aji Omnicolor x2
Fish x2
Yellow Scotch Bonnet x2
Goccia d'Oro x2
Red Lantern Habanero x2
Brain Strain x2
Billy Boy Douglah

I'll just dig up some more of the landlord's landscaping...lol
That is actually a San Diego Alligator Lizard...they have small muted legs and look very snakelike. It was huge, well over a foot long! My first thought was snake...and we got some nasties here. I really like snakes, just not when I'm weeding under bushes. We get a ton of snakebite victims here and gardeners are #1 on the list.
Thanks for checking it out!
Shane

These were a gift...but they're annuums so pretty quick to sprout I would imagine. I have a bunch of seeds...Maybe I will throw a few in just to see what happens!

Made these for my daughter to take to a Superbowl party. Don't know if you can really get the size of these from the pics, but those are 4" tiles on the counter. They are absolutely the biggest damn Jalapeno's I've ever seen! Was really surprised they have a nice heat too

Damn...Pitty I'm not eating them myself.

Ok...I may have eaten just one.

I also moved all my younger seedlings back under the grow light. I had to go back to work today, and I didn't want to leave them outside with the extreme Temps we've been getting (hit 90 on Saturday!) In the ghetto greenhouse they can really cook (lesson learned the hard way, RIP little Jalapeno plants) if the wife forgets to open it like she promised to remember everyday. I will get a chance to see how much they slow down, or not under the lights vs direct blazing sun. The color is still slowly creeping back into the ones that got waterlogged, but they're looking really healthy now. I have pods on my Jalapeno and Anaheim overwinters and soon will have them on my new Cayenne and overwintered goatweed. Had a few blossoms drop, but they look like the new ones will push through now. I am not going to pinch any off, just let them do what they do! Plus, the sooner I bite into a fresh homegrown pepper the better!

For those of you taking the time to follow and comment I really appreciate it...if I have a good season, the sky is the limit on the #s of seeds/pods I will send out! May have to ask for some postage on the pods, I think the cheapest pre-paid box is about 5 bucks??? Hey, and if it fits it ships! Anyone know how long fresh pods will last if vacuum sealed and refridgerated?

There lookin sweet, I'm sure the poppers were great too. There's a place near here that always has large ones, and alot of red ones as well.

Nice work, your plants are looking on the up and up. Great turn around the young ones look healthy.

I bet those poppers were tasty........yum
