Shane,
What a grow ! You must have 5 thumbs on each hand -- all of 'em GREEN !
Keep us posted on the taste of the Pequin Ciapas as the pods ripen.
BTW -- Your powders are astonishingly good !

Hi Shane, Nice of the Navy to give you a weekend off... Excellent pics as well. I've got a question for you... I've never grown them before and my Poblanos, Jalapenos and Big Jim Anaheims are blossoming now. How long would you say until they get to a size where I can pick them? Cheers

awesome updates...looks like ill need a trip to san diego in the next month or so... i went to a nursery 3 blocks from my dentist and picked up 8 Red bhuts that were really tall healthy and buds all over.. $2.. why not... .was cheaper than white habs.. one of your pods looks like white hab.. just guessing... also picked up 2 more yellow manzanos.. 2 white habs... chocolate bhut and 2 congo trinidad reds... $30 .. why not... keep it up buddyy.. i really regret not touring your place... it was an awkward moment that day.. and was scared to meet with you... now i regret it..
That's an awesome price on the Bhuts! They're selling all the supers at my nursery for $4.99 and most of them look terrible. I asked them who supplies their starts and if they were willing to buy some from me next year, and we're working it out!!! Sounds like a great reason to put together a legit grow room and buy that greenhouse!!! The one that looks like a white hab is actually my White Bhut, one of a few that I purchased so it should be true.

lookin stellar Shane. You are showing an extremely well developed palate and appreciation for brewski as well. Lovin that wicked witch lookin pod- the one that looks like 2 from the side!Purple Hyacinth Vine is getting ready to launch.....
As I grow older and more able to afford the good beer I realize that all those folks I thought were wasting their money on the good stuff weren't idiots at all! That's one of my favorite pods so far, the "annular ring" as AJ calls it hung in there for a while and put that divide in there. Hope its a trait that more pods on that guy will have! Those hyacinth beans were real slow to start, but are starting to finally take off.

The grow continues to evolve...and I have at least one yellow and one brown thumb as well. I try real hard not to touch the plants with those two, but I think the yellow one grazed some of my tomatoes because they got some kind of funk going on. I ate a ripe Chiapas pod a while back, but I don't remember anything too special about it flavor. Have to wait till I can pop a handful of those little dudes (won't be long). They're almost certainly a cross...just hope its an interesting one and they come out :hot: !!! Thanks for the compliment on the powders, I really enjoy making them and they're about to get more interesting once the supers start to ripen!!! :flamethrower:

Was nice to have a short day yesterday...I was the guest speaker at a retirement ceremony here in San Diego. Bittersweet occasion, they guy retiring was one of the best Sailors I ever had work for me and when he transferred he had a run in with a Commanding Officer that didn't see it that way. Paperwork ensued and he was hit by a retention board so he was forced out at 15 years. At least he ended up with an early retirement...was a hard speech to deliver while staring at his wife and 3 young kids.

The Big Jim and Poblano pods grow really fast, but I'm guessing its still about a month(at least) from set to picking on them. I have never really timed them??? I'll have to go back through my glog and look at when they set vs when I picked??? Maybe someone will chime in with better info.

Loving the pepper porn. Things look like they're really taking off for you.
I am too! Great time to be out there snooping around discovering new pods...I've heard so many stories about folks not getting many pods first season off their supers...looks like I am going to luck out!

Shane your doing great on your plants, can't wait to see what next month is going to be like for your pods. Did you just recently add the tea to your plants? That's really going to do wanders for you. I still haven't made it to the store to get what I need for it, hoping I can soon though. I am way past due to update my glog, but my cherry bomb is seriously putting out flowers. I got three pods on it right now and about 8 flowers or so blooming. I also got a pod coming on my scotch bonnet with tons of new flowers comming up. Same with my fatalii. Should be a good month for me next month  Anyways,

Just realized I missed a whole round of replies!!!

Great rescue on the Burning Bush Shane. And the Pequin chiapas is looking great, can't wait til you post in the poppers thread with those things :)
Good growing :)
I didn't have any orange habs going, and it looked like it needes some love. Doing well now! I pinched all the buds I could get to easily but I'm just going to let it go now and see what it does! Popper time will be tonight or tomorrow!!!

Looks good brother. I have had the petals of the flower ring fuse into the top of pods and ripen like your stinger. I will look for some pics.
The flowers don't stick on that plant, just the stigma. It stays on and thickens as they grow and even ripens with the pod. Only problem is that Jal is overwintered and lost most of its heat, The other overwinter I have is REAL hot and they're side by side so it will be funny to pop two or three of the mild ones to prove they're not bad and then hand one of the hotties to a friend... :hell:

Excellent............Shane have you been brushing up on your photo skills?......Let me answer that.....actually, I think you're teaching the class!

Great work my man.....I don't even need my cheater reading glasses to see the clarity, (I already know the efforts there)....wonderful photos

and outstanding looking plants. Your seasons really taking off. No aphid nor hail storm can stop you now...........

I can use some of the Big Jim's on the grill tonite......I've got the Red Snapper, were doing it Vera Cruz style, but those chilli's would just do the trick!

Your blog updates are looking tops!

Greg
Greg, always nice to have the Master over for a visit! I'm still learning on the pics, but getting there! The plants are doing well, I have some issues with my tomatoes all of the sudden, but I am hoping a dose of neem and the good feeding I gave them yesterday will knock it out. I also have some leaves on a few peppers that are starting to looked kind of washed out. Kind of faded...not yellow. Looks more like mild sunburn. Hope that's them just trying to tell me their hungry too. Even those with washed out leaves are pumping out pods and growing like weeds, so I am not too terrible concerned. While serious and damaging hail storms are extremely rare here in Socal...I really don't wanna temp mother nature, We occasionally get sustained winds over 60 mph here in the foothills, so she could definitely cause me some drama if I tempt her. I can't wait for those big jims to ripen either! Seems as though they grow an inch a day! If you need seeds I'll save some off those guys for you once they ripen!

Sounds good Shane, I bet those buggers are gonna be Hot. So the grow looks great brother, keep up the great work! Can't wait to see pics of some poppers. Emon
Thanks Eric! Thinking I am gonna put up the popper pics tomorrow on Pappa's-day!

nice harvests... You have some serious woodworking skills my friend...

I'm going to be retiring in about 30 years... Mind making me one too? lol

The local nursery here in my town says "yeah we stock ALL the peppers that exist"... I said "all"they replied "yeah, you know jalapeno, cayenne, habanero, and bell... All them. "

They did make some nice looking plants... Though they don't put them out in full sun for some reason.
Thanks! My life before the Navy was spent in construction...first concrete, then framing work, then custom carpentry (mainly decks, custom cabinets/shelves, and finish work) and finally welding hollow metal doors/windows...I joined the military late, mostly due to the fact that my boss was nuts and I needed some stability. My wife and I had a brand new baby and that job had almost killed me (literally) 3 different times...we worked in an all metal building in El Paso with no AC, and the boss wouldn't even let us open the doors for fear the competition was spying on us. Glad for the experience...but don't miss it AT ALL!

nice nice nice pretty looking pods and harvest
Thanks pinoy! Hope your plants are happy when you get home tomorrow!

Popper Party at Shane's house!!! Wow the jala is LOADED
Those Mucho Nachos are really kicking! They still have a ton of plants at HD if you like the looks of them!

Nice work Shane.
I'm still laughin about the pepper spray.....awesome.
You will like the Devil's Tongue Brown-mine had a pretty interesting taste, but the pods started out "in the white"....
Looks like a very nice mystery suprise....
AND YES I HAVE SEPARATION ANXIETY! :onfire: (from my plants!)
That story is funny...even better when the guy I was helping out tells it. He though the guy was going to kill him...after we drove off he parked down the street for about 10 minutes and watched the guy sitting on the curb screaming and slobbering. When he drove off the guy was still just sitting there. My DT's are light colored...so hopeful they're true.

Hope to see you home and updating soon!

Great to hear yours are picking up the pace too! Can't wait to see the updates!!! Little jealous on the Scotch Bonnets, mine were late starts and then got hit by the bugs and started to lag, they're finally pulling out of it now, so I should see some action from them soon...

What kind of aji panca version are you growing? The baccatum or the chinense one?
Its a chinense...mild pepper. I will use it for mild powders and pastes. Was surprised to find it at my nursery so I bought it to add some variety and another mild to the grow that the whole family can eat. I make a ton of powder, and some milder ones with this as the base would be just the ticket for a whole family seasoning mix I hope!

Don't be to jealous of my Scotch Bonnet, the afids got to them pretty bad. Not sure if I should pull the leaves off that looking sickly or not.. I will post pics on glog later today though. I did find some flowers on other plants though that seem way to small to be producing.
Thanks
Aaron

Took a page out of Wayright's book and just did the vid to music...There are pods on some of the other plants that I didn't show, but I'm saving them for some pic updates...
Hope you enjoyed it...maybe I'll get around to doing one for my in-grounds soon. Did a little grafting today with the recovering Fatalii and a leftover Caribbean Red as the hosts (photo at the end of the vid) 3 on each. Put a Purple Bhut, Red Lantern Hab and a Chocolate Hab Scion onto the Caribbean Red, and a Chocolate Bhut, Black Naga and a Monster infinity to the Fatalii. I used plastic wrap to attach them then tightly wrapped them with painters tape. We'll see, They're on the front porch where they'll get shade all day. I don't know it this method is going to work or not? Figured I would give it a shot...
Happy Fathers Day Central and Eastern time zones! The rest of us will have to wait another hour or two!
Shane

Now that was a kick ass vid Shane.

I am amazed how bushy your plants are. :onfire:

What are you doing to get them so fat?

And I think we will be calling you podzilla very soon. :P

Happy fathers day bro!

Thanks Jamie! Happy father's day to you as well...as far as the bushiness goes, some of them got topped by hail, some by me when they had mites...but others are just growing that way??? It may have had something to do with my light setup indoors. I had a t8 fixture hitting them from each side and CFL's up top, I think the addition of side lights may have pushed the lower nodes into action??? Even my Manzanos grew that way, and they were never damaged at all...hopefully more shoots=more nodes=more blooms=more PODS

Peppers poolside?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! Life doesnt get better than that. Dre and Pac always make what ur growing get BUSHY :high: . I have to start playing Dr. Dre for my peppers and get me some pods

Crazy plants dude!............especially that "Goat's Weed'. Mother nature shaped your plants up nicely. There's nothing leggy about them.

Those plants are tight shaped, shrublike and landscape ready! Nice production with the Big Jims....It that an overwintered plant. It still on the move to get taller.................nice

Enjoyable video.................once again !

Greg

Nice shrubs! I notice my inground plants bush out more than my containers. They are healthier all around actually. Still experimenting with different ferts for my containers. Plants are looking great, and should have major pods with all that branching.

Positive comments are so welcome from any and all that stop by, but when they come from the Guru himself...priceless! None of those are overwinters...the one overwinter Goat's Weed I had was hit by a disease and I pulled it. The Big Jims I found at HD...was really stoked because I tried starting some, but they didn't pop. Almost bought a couple more Big Jims today, but from the looks of the pods I got going I won't need them.

Thanks! Mine are the exact opposite. My ingrounds are bushy too...some very, but for the most part they're more upright. I just started feeding my containers this weekend. I have them all in Moisture Control Miracle Grow which is loaded with nutes all by itself. Ton's of folks hate on MG, but I got no complaints. I actually have a side by side grow with a couple of the Manzanos in the beginning of the Vid. One is in MG and the other two in Happy Frog. The MG is already pulling ahead...have to wait and see how it turns out.

Well, busy day outside, snapped a bunch of pics...but I am just gonna post a couple.

First another almost certain cross...
P1010622.jpg

A bunch of new pods on this guy, which is supposed to be a standard Red 7 Pot...but the pods are much lighter than my other 2 7 Pot plants which appear true.

P1010621.jpg

Another pod same plant...Hope they come out white!!!!! Seeds were from Griff...will have to ask him if he had any white podded plants last year???

P1010625.jpg

Here is a pod on one of my other 7 Pots...looks like the real deal so far. You can see where some little critter has been gnawing on the stem grrrrrrr.

P1010617.jpg

First pod on my inground Trinidad Scorpion...looks promising that this plant may put out more scorpion like pods than the container plant.

Bad news too...the Purple Bhut which was next door to the sick Fatalii is starting to go down the same road...
P1010623.jpg

Don't know if I should yank it or not...I doused it with neem. Thoughts??? It hasn't started to wilt like the Fatalii did, but I fear that's next.

Back to the bright side....can you guess whats happening in the next couple photos???
P1010638.jpg

P1010639.jpg

I know its too late to start these...but what the hey! I want to overwinter these...

Thanks for looking in folks if you have any idea what the issue is with that purple bhut lemme know!
Shane
