Awesome shane! I skipped around a bit on my catching up. But it seems like your virus free plants are doing amazing! They all look super healthy and are stacking on the pods like crazy! Now snap some more pics and feed my pod porn addiction!

Hey there Shane! Sorry to hear about the Mottled Virus issues. Besides that, everything is looking great. I'm sure you'll be able to power through the rest of the season brother!

Wow, when those start to ripen up you're going to be up to your ears in pods. They're looking great! Do we get to watch you eat one of each kind? Back to back? In one video?
Sounds fun....I'll give it a shot! Should be pretty funny! I have first flowers on my Barrackpore, so I'll have to do it before that one ripens!

I am :drooling: :drooling: :drooling:

I finally got a top of the page other than my own....COOL
Drooling here too! Congrats on the page topper!

I have to skip around too when I go back to review! I am going to put together a quarentine area in the front yard for the sick ones and hope that keeps any more from getting sick.

Thanks RF...I do have some that are doing very well. Kind of puts a damper on it when I look over at the empty spots where the other used to sit though. I...and they will get over it! Won't be long before I sample my first home grown super hot!

Shane your plants are podding up like mad right now, looking great! Wild brazil, on the list for next year now! Hope you enjoy that Cantina pod I sent! :)

Shane looks awesome that sucks about the virus remember if you need a 7 pod yellow at the end of the season there is one sitting out here for you just let me know. Hopefully you enjoy the pods. Good luck with the plant movement.

Ok...so today is moving day for the sick ones. Been using the safest practices I can by always handling the suspected sick ones last and using hand sanitizer between plants. I am also going to spread out the containers so that if it hits some of them maybe it will stay localized. Good news is I haven't seen any sign of new infections in any neighboring plants. Some of my tomatoes are ill as well now, but I don't think its related. Also on the agenda is some modifications to the drip system, timer installation and a new smoker!!!

A few pics from yesterday and this morning. Have to excuse the blurry pics wife's B-day celebration and maybe a couple too many beers! (is there such a thing?)

The rats are back in force!
P1010670.jpg

Damn pack rats! This is one of the not so bad tomatoes. There are several that are half eaten. I put the trap back out this morning.

Yesterdays Harvest shot...two small bells had sun scald so I pulled them one tiny Jal, toms and beans.

AND...
P1010692.jpg

Today's Harvest!!!

P1010693.jpg

Poblano, Bell, Mucho Nacho (pulled a bunch before I transplant them), A few tiny Big Jims(dogs knocked a branch off the plant :banghead: ) and some tomatoes!

A success followed by two setbacks seems to be the norm around here. Oh well, still have plenty of great stuff going. Grafts are coming along. Of the 6 scions I stuck to the two plants 2 are looking real good. 2 still have a pulse...but its weak, and two are all but dead. Funny, the two that look great are both chocolate types. A Chocolate Hab onto the Caribbean Red and a Chocolate Bhut onto the Fatalii. Pics soon, as well as some side by sides of the Happy Frog Vs Miracle Grow Manzanos. You may be surprised! A decisive lead has been taken!

Thanks for checking in folks! Off to HD for supplies.

Mornin' Shane! Sounds like you've got a busy day all planned out.

Nice podage! Love the harvest shots!!! What are you going to do with those poblanos? I can almost taste the chile rellenos!

Very interested to see your potting mix comparison pics!

That is my kinda harvest. Edible peppers! Get that smoker fired up. I am also intetested in seeing the soil comp. I love Happy Frog, that stuff drains like a champ.

Morning again Bonnie! Got something in store for the poblanos today...I'll post pics, but you can probably guess by the time you finish reading this update!

Yeah...unfortunately much of that harvest was due to my virus issues and having to relocate plants. Not gonna hurt their flavor too much tonight! Happy frog is great stuff!

Looking good Shane, stoked that that nasty disease inst spreading. Later.
Looks like I may have it localized now, but too early to tell. Even with all my precautions, I handled a lot of plants yesterday installing drip lines for the containers and there's always a chance that I messed up somewhere.

Little update from yesterday. I finally got the drip system and timer installed for the containers. Momma is super stoked because she was my water girl when I was at work. Now all she has to do is peek in on them from time to time and make sure everything is happy. Also got the new toy and fired it up for the first time last night! I've had my grill/smoker for almost 20 years and it was time to upgrade. I went electric which used to make me cringe just thinking about it, but with an adjustable thermostat and no fire to build it was hard to resist...so I didn't! With how simple it is, I can start training my 11 yo to smoke peppers for me! Hahaha...no pics it didn't happen, so here you go!

First for the soil comparison...
P1010702.jpg

Far left is MG and the other two in Happy Frog...hard to tell in the pic, but the MG plant is MUCH larger, they all started the same size...ish. I left a pod on the plant on the far right so not a fair comparison, but it does go to show how much one pod can slow a plant down. It is a good 10" shorter than the MG plant and 6" shorter than the other HF plant now.

P1010704.jpg

Here is an overhead of the two bigger ones...I will be very interested to see if in spite of the better growth in MG if the HF plant produces sooner/better??? This one surprised me. I expected the HF to perform at least as well and maybe better. These plants were put in soil straight out of the bag, no amendments and all given the same doses of compost tea. No real nutes yet until their soil begins to deplete.

P1010707.jpg

Here's one of my new timers...the other one getting installed today.

The new toy in action!

P1010700.jpg

Found these guys while installing the drip system on my Yellow Bhut...

P1010699.jpg

A closer look at them shows the two distinctly different pod types on this plant! While most of the pods are traditional bhut style several look more like Yellow 7's. If you look closely you will see that there are actually 4 pods on this node, 2 of each pod type.

P1010697.jpg

Another of my Jamaican Hot Yellows ripening! This guy is going on the grill today.

P1010695.jpg

Here is a pic of one of the leaves on my Mucho Nachos...all 4 plants are infected however if its slowing them down I really can't tell. These are some robust plants! I put them and my two fish peppers back into 5# containers yesterday and moved them to the front yard. The Fish peppers both looked terrible after the xplant, but these dudes didn't even wilt!

P1010694.jpg

During the xplant I pulled a few more pods. These are from 4 sick plants, and I left some smaller pods on them! The ones on the left were from my earlier harvest. Poppers anyone???

Still have a ton of work to do out there, have to run to HD for some more 1/2" and 1/4" tubing then back out there with the punch. Pics of the system once complete.

Thanks for stopping by!
Shane

Maybe the yellow bhuts with the funny shapes are just first pods? A few of the plants I have put out odd little runts before getting into gear...

Shane,

Your harvest looks fantastic! Is that smoker electric or propane? Oh and can you Fedex me some of those chicken legs? :)
Electric...goes against everything I stand for, but dang it sure makes it easy! Too late on the chicken legs.

Looking good Shane... especially the smoked chicken legs! You've been a busy guy today!
That was actually all yesterday! Today was even crazier around here. Re-did the entire drip system. I was a little chinsy the first time around. Got the thing running great now, and timers installed. Also ripped out a few tomato plants that were looking less than healthy. Couldn't give them away fast enough anyway.

Maybe...some look to be younger than the big pods though??? Wither that or an unstable cross??? Almost all my seeds were OP so there is no telling what is gonna happen when things start changing colors...but that's part of the fun!

Finally got around to the pepper dinner!

Poblanos...rice/meat/cream cheese/Velveeta/BACON!!!

P1010715.jpg

The Bells with the same ingredients A few of Vegetarian poppers up top for my daughter...

P1010717.jpg

Into the smoker they go! The Poblanos had been roasted and peeled and the Bells precooked for 20 minutes to soften them up a bit.

P1010719.jpg

Can't forget the beans!!!

P1010722.jpg

The Poppers...Mmmmmmmm. Made 44 of these and they were all gone between 4 of us before dinner!

P1010723.jpg

The finished Poblanos...

P1010724.jpg

...and finally the Bells!

Everything was amazing! I fought off getting an electric smoker for too long. That thing is MONEY! I also smoked a few rounds of Manzanos and Jals for powder. So quick and easy in that thing!

Today's Harvest...
P1010721.jpg

Like I said above I removed a couple tomato plants...didn't even pull all the tomatoes. I always plant too many! Also a small Cuke, Goat's Weed and a Jamaican Hot Yellow.

Hope your weekend was a wonderful as mine!
Shane

Those poppers look so good! looks like you got to spend alot of time with your garden this weekend. Good news that your jals are hanging on cause it sounds like you guys eat a ton of them! Hey how long did it take to roast your pablanos before peeling them?
