@Denniz officially 107 here in Poway yesterday...felt like an oven. Gonna be as hot or hotter today! Ughhhh.

@ Greg, Jamie and Brian I am losing plants weekly to the battle. I will try an update this morning of the ones hit hardest. It'll show a couple things, that some are fo-real sick or dead, and that I am too damn lazy and dumb to get rid of even the dead ones anymore. Some of the plants are troopers that figure it out and keep on putting the pods out. Some show some symptoms like reduced pod count and smaller pods, and some just croak. I'm still covered up with pods, and am very thankful for such a great season. I owe most of my success to finally realizing that its all about sticking to what you know soil and nute wise, and all the great help and info provided by folks like you guys. I read through years of posts on here at the beginning of the season trying to sort things out, my grow would have sucked for sure without THP to help me figure it out!!! Thanks for the compliments fellas, its always sweet to get some kudos but coming from the likes of you all is an honor.

Well its 3:30 am....time to fire up the smoker!

Aight....So here is the "proof" of illness for all you that doubt! Haters sheesh!!!

Scorpion...dead :violin:

gallery_5729_17_1983627.jpg

The Scorpion's Next door neighbor...almost dead. :mope:
This part of the garden is a single row and the Virus is starting on one end and working toward the other.

gallery_5729_17_2436714.jpg

Here is a Chocolate Bhut that is trying to recover. It shed all its fruit and most of its leaves but has a little new growth. So we'll see.

gallery_5729_17_955564.jpg

Leaves on my only Brain Strain. This plant is still kicking, but production sucks compared to the rest of my survivor plants.

gallery_5729_17_360031.jpg

Here is a Big Jim that has croaked... :violin: There's only one still producing and it won't be for long.

gallery_5729_17_2224505.jpg

Another Big Jim on its last leg... :tear:

gallery_5729_17_2216450.jpg

Here is a yellow 7 showing how a few of my plants are coping with the virus. Tiny leaves and fruit. This plant was producing golf ball sized pods before catching the Virus.

gallery_5729_17_780545.jpg

Here is a leaf on my Goccia D'Oro. Its still doing fine in spite of the virus.

gallery_5729_17_1831432.jpg

Another Chocolate Bhut that ain't gonna make it... :(

gallery_5729_17_3997548.jpg

Pequin Cross crapping out on the quick side...almost like you flipped a switch.

Ok...there are many more that I could show. Both of my White Bullet habs are gonners, one of my Tepins as well, and a Primo...many more. There are still some great producers out there more than making up for the dead/dying ones!!! A bump and I will show a couple!

Thanks for the bump Fernando! Gonna be near 110 here today...brutal!

Just a couple more pics to offset the depressing ones above...

Scotch Bonnet (MJDiamond)

gallery_5729_13_1135591.jpg

Really love these pods. Great heat and the flavor is strong but not overpowering...a must grow from here on out!

gallery_5729_13_248841.jpg

Barrackpore (Walter Anderson Nursery)

gallery_5729_13_2324404.jpg

Some of these guys are MASSIVE...haven't tried one off this plant yet. Not sure I really want to! The pull this weekend will fill a gallon bag for the dehydrator through!

The harvest shots tomorrow. Getting ready for my son's football game now! Have a great weekend everyone!
Shane

Those Scotch Bonnets look like the Trinidad version I got from pepperlover.com. I love those peppers as well for the very reasons you stated, they are definitely on my grow list for next year. Plus they can get huge.

Re: the other pics, man those were depressing. I'm so sorry. That's got to be hard to have them slowly die off like that. It's hard to see anything unhealthy in your plants when you are growing stuff like this, let alone such a massive spread of yuk. Again, you've done great getting those massive harvests.

Barrackpores are great, I grew them for the first time this year and was really pleasantly surprised. Share your taste perceptions once you try one...

Yeah, depressing but in perspective for me. I have more than any one person needs with the plants I still have producing. I dunno what version the SB's are??? Maybe Matt will chime in with his source?

I have eaten a couple Barrackpores from Jamie and that's what's preventing me from eating one of mine!!! I got the dish soap impression with the whole raw pods I ate, but I imaging they make a very tasty powder once lightly smoked. We shall see shortly! I think I'm going to dry my first batch tomorrow...

So Rick shamed me into actually cooking some stuff this weekend. On the menu this morning is a little taste of Portugal with some Latin and Caribbean twists...

The Francesinha...

Started out making a plain ole egg sandwich, but I had a few Jals from a broken branch laying on the counter begging to be eaten so...
gallery_5729_10_5227789.jpg

I lightly grilled them and added them to my sandwich. Thus far the left side contains Mayo, Cheese and Ham and the right side is Mayo, Cheese and Jal rings...

Added the Egg to the right side and then another layer of Cheese (Yup a heart stopper!) Put it together buttered the bread and browned it in the skillet. Was just about to head to the table when I remembered this kickass sandwich I had seen when researching for one of the throwdowns I failed to enter (lazy). So...

I went back to the fridge and pulled out a Scotch Bonnet, some smoked tomato/Big Jim sauce I had made, some of the sauce Dave (gnslngr) sent me, another egg, some more Cheese and some sour cream...
gallery_5729_10_3653919.jpg

Julienned half this big Scotch Bonnet...

gallery_5729_10_574770.jpg

added a thick layer of the Big Jim/Tomato sauce Cheese and julienned Scotch Bonnet and Dave's (think it was red seven???) sauce, under the broiler it went while I prepped another egg.

gallery_5729_10_4574021.jpg

Getting close!!!

gallery_5729_10_4679000.jpg

Mmmmmmm....

gallery_5729_10_3426667.jpg

Ahhhhhh....

Way too much food...
gallery_5729_10_2068863.jpg

but I manged to find room for it all!!!

The combo of peppers and sauces had a nice little forehead sweat worked up with a nice even all over burn, but nothing uncomfortable or overpowering. Freaking fantastic sandwich. Will make this again for sure!!!

More foodie pics inbound soon...mmmmmmmmm.

Hi Shane
Nice to see you back in the saddle again! The virus sucks, but I'm glad to see life and the harvest go on... That is one bada@& looking sammitch! I doubt you could eat one every morning, but it looks like just the thing before going out ice fishing, which I'm sure is closer for me than for you, but still... ;)

That would be depressing to go outside to, but at least the other ones are pumping out alot of pods for you.

And the sandwich looks good.

Alright, on behalf of all the doubters, I apologize. You really do have something nasty going on there! Then again, your harvests still put mine to shame. Just imagine what they would be like if all your plants were healthy!

Rick, Jeff and Bonnie...Thanks! I'm really over the virus woes. It sucks, but asi es la vida...no worries. I really have no complaints. The only worry now with the virus is next season. Going all container, but I'll still have to sweat any volunteer plants springing up and infecting them again. The worst part is I haven't been able to trade or give away any seeds. I was really looking forward to being able to hook some folks up. I've still been sending out some care packages, but they have to go out with specific instructions not to save any seeds and not to handle the pods before touching their plants. Still makes me nervous knowing I could be potentially spreading this crap around if the recipients aren't careful. I'll just have to spread more love through powder I suppose!

Thanks for stopping by!
Shane

Great foodie pic!

The leaf shot of your Goccia D'Oro looks just like my Douglah. I quarantined it early and plucked every leaf that looked like that. So far, it seems to be bouncing back.

Question: Does the virus get into the embryo or just on the surface of the seed? If the latter, a simple 20% bleach soak for 5 minutes should do the trick!

Bleach doesn't work...have to use trisodium phosphate for the soak. a warm soak works best (i think around 120 degress) I'll have to look up the exact directions again. Not 100% effective, and drops germination rates quite a bit. Will be worth it for a couple crosses I don't have any seeds for.

Wow Shane, I didn't think it was that bad. Did you get on any off the seed trains? I never mess with those things,as fun as they look. Maybe you should scrap everything at the end of the season and start all over. I don't think you want to deal with this again. Seeds are easy to obtain. Anything I have is yours, and I know there are countless folks here who would help you out also. Good luck.

Many that stinks about the virus brother, I was hoping you had gotten a handle on it =( Guess I should have been visiting your glog more often hah.

I'm getting ready to start on a top secret project (shh) involving a graft of a bunch of different superhots, and a manzano.... we'll see how it goes.

by just getting started, I mean, I started a bunch of seeds... lol

I did get on a few trains...but I really think the virus came with some seeds I ordered. Live and learn I suppose. I know I can count on the good folks here to keep me rockin for next year. You all are the main reason I love this site!

You're always starting seeds! How is NC treating you thus far??? Good luck with the frankenpepper attempt! I had several grafts stick for a while, but they were some of the first plants that died off with the virus. Oh well...there's always next year!

Biggest pull yet. Momma took one look at the ice chest full and said..."That's it, pull them up! We're done! I no longer have room for groceries!" May be able to convince her otherwise if you all PM me with some interest in taking the rest of the season's pods off my hands. I may post a deal in the marketplace...if not they're coming up next weekend... :mope: :violin: :tear: Oh...by the way. She made that decision before I brought in the two buckets and grocery bag full.

Who knew Manzanos were bird peppers??? grrrrrrrr

More/better pics to follow. I counted 1100 and change just in wild pods today. I have no idea how many total pods?????? Not a bathtub, but more than I bargained for!!!

Its been a fantastic season in spite of the heartaches...thanks for checkin in folks! More pics inbound...

I'm (most likely) down for a sfrb, or even one of the medium ones. I'm running on E in terms of peppers haha. My garden back home is still sad looking, and my garden up here is infantile... lol Just let me know what you need, and I'll get back to you!

LOL its true =( I am always starting seeds. I gave away a bunch of the starts I had going when I moved... only about 5 left. lol

just the same. I figure I'll be up here for a while, so I might as well have a plant or two or better a couple frankenpeppers.

If your queen doesn't mind much, you can dehydrate an oven full of peppers in a couple hours... they tend (in mine any way, even on the lowest setting) to lose their color a little bit... I bet in a weekend of constant attention (and sending the wife to the motherinlaws) you can make enough room for groceries haha.

Here is another option of course... a pepper freezer:
