We may have a chilihead in training here. She wanted to eat a bhut but I figured it would be best if she started with a jalapeno. I don't think she is quite ready for the leap yet. She did very well with the jalapeno though considering it was her first hot pepper ever. I told her if she picked it off my plant she had to finish it. I know she has a long way to go to catch up to Snacks but hey, she is only 10.

She begged me to pick it off. She really wanted to eat it. We will be working her up slowly.
They are actually the hottest right before they start to ripen though.

I myself am not ready for a superhot. We both ate a serrano tonight together cuz she wanted to step it up. She only got down 2 bites. I ate mine but it was disgusting. The heat was no problem but it was the worst tasting pepper I ever ate. I couldn't post that vid as I almost puked. Yuck. I'll never eat one of those again.

It was green but could they be that much better when ripe?
I like the taste of serranos, but IMO they have better uses than eating fresh. They're great for salsa and pickling, or adding to chili etc. When ripe they get a bit softer and don't taste so "green".
Awwww poor girl was burning, but she's brave. I think in less than a year she'll be up to a habanero if she keeps it up.
