:D

When I see cook with beer, I am immediately thinking of my Guinness Fish n Chips, but I believe I have entered that before, and may have actually won a crown with it (not sure, can't remember for certain). So... I can't make that. Gonna have to give it some thought. Oh wait, the throwdown is THIS weekend. I will be away for a long weekend in the mountains. No throwdown for me. You guys have fun and I will look forward to checking out everyone's creations.

FRIDAY!

Oktoberfest is coming! Cooking with beer!

(Does not have to be German)

Entry requirements:

  • One appetizer cooked with beer and one entree cooked with beer (two sides max, beer not required), posted as one entry.
OR
  • One entree cooked with beer and one side cooked with beer (two sides max, beer required for one), posted as one entry.
Bread is not counted as a side even if you make your own beer bread. But if you make beer bread, that does not count toward the beer requirement of the entree unless it is part of it.

Anything goes; any protein or cooking style. You may use non-alcoholic beer. You may use the beer in any part of the entree, for example, batter, homemade beer bread, braising liquid, etc.

2nd entry:

You may enter a beer dessert as a 2nd entry. It will be in the main poll unless there are 2 or more in which case a Dessert poll will be created. The beer may be used in any portion of the dessert as long as it is an integral part.

Drink!

There will be a dessert category, I'm thinking ...

We have a higher ratio of stout fans here than the average across the population, by orders of magnitude ...

I hope to get something entered on Saturday.   The dessert aspect is a nice twist.

I'm not at my most-creative point in my 'cycle' until I sleep at length, next (tonight), but I've been kicking it around in my head a little ...

My plan is to kind of do it in a sort of play on grain-to-glass, by cooking the links in beer (sous vide), in the (woven into the same beer being brewed) brew kettle while making the next batch ...

Toasting the oats w/ the Searzall for the beer, and the links ... etc etc ...

... or I'll do up schnitzel, if the meat at the Geier's compels me in that direction - a definite possibility.

Well, wasn't planning on the side or app requirement, but think I can deal. Gonna be a nasty weekend here in DC so on one hand, good weekend to stay in and cook. On the other, think Saturday morning farmers market will be a wash out and Friday grocery stores a nightmare. Off early tomorrow so can lay in supplies.

I live at the highest point in DC, so If the doom and gloom weather people are correct, I may be posting from waterfront property soon.

Just keep in mind that weather forecasting is probably the one job on the planet where you can be wrong most of the time and not get fired.

Here's a shocker: The folks at Weather Channel are actually admitting that Joaquin could just fizzle out over the water and not make landfall at all, depending on what happens with the high pressure system that's out on the ocean. This is a day to mark on our calendars - the day that Weather Channel didn't strictly stick to it's National Enquirer worst-case-scenario habits!
