Now that it is almost time to plant out, I figured I'd start up my GLOG for the year. I've cut out almost all superhots this year, and am growing solely peppers I regularly cook with. Here is a link to my glog last year:

I did a good job documenting my grow last season, but I plan to give more regular updates this year. I'm growing more veggies this year too, so I needed to free up some space in my garden. Here is the list for the year. All of these are either OW plants or well established seedlings.

Thanks man! I'm glad those seeds worked out for you. Good to hear you have 3 aji oro pods, and your brown rocoto is setting pods.
 
Aji mochero. One plant is ripening to yellow pods as it should, but the other is ripening to peachish pods. Super productive Chinense variety for sure!

Aji limo. Both OW plants from last year. On plant ripens green straight to red, the other goes through about 5 color changes before ending in red. They both taste the same, and the pods look the same once ripened. Aji limo is the best pepper I've ever had for fish dishes.

Not a single one ATM. Now I just need to find where I stashed the seed at. All I have this year are a couple of scotch brains and MOA bonnets.

Can you elaborate on this a little, if you don't mind, TGCM? What exactly do you mean by that, and could you list some examples? TIA!

Also, which "DMV" are you located near? :rofl: Not too hot there, or you just start early?

I grew a Manzano and an Orange Rocoto last year. They were BEASTS (probably 7-8' tall if the upper branches weren't sagging so much), but they dropped every single flower all year (too hot was my guess). Didn't start setting pods until October, which is way too late for New England. I think I ended up with like a dozen small green Manzanos, and one (half ripe) Rocoto pod by mid-December. Pruned them way back, tried overwintering them until mid-March, until I gave up on the indoor aphid battle. Go figure, if I'd waited another 2 1/2 weeks, it was warm enough to keep them outside for good, and the ladybugs were out like crazy :doh:

I'm really thinking about giving Pubes a shot again next year, but starting the seeds much earlier than February to try to get pods to set before the Summer heat kicks in

Sorry for the hijack, bud! I'm just determined to get a good Pubescens harvest up here eventually, and was hoping you might be able to recommend a couple varieties that might be a little more heat tolerant :cheers:
 
Oooooh, I definitely feel your pain on that one man. I have had several rocoto cultivars that refuse to put on any pods in my growing climate. The plants get huge, but drop hundreds of flowers all Summer, without setting a single pod. Those varieties I kick to the curb, and don't ever grow again.

By bulletproof cultivars, I mean rocoto varieties that could care less how hot/humid it gets(95+ degrees), they produce pods. Here in the DMV (DC/Maryland/Northern Virginia) we have been getting 90-95 degree temps with insanely high humidity every day for the past few weeks. Most of my trusted Pubescens could care less, and are pumping out pods. It is going to cool down a bit for us starting soon, especially at night, so the cooler night air loving Pubes (Turbo Pubes) will start kicking into high gear.

There have been several Pube varieties that are basically worthless to grow in my area, due to climate, such as; rocoto montufar, orange/red Mexican manzano, brown rocoto, yellow locoto, rocoto perón, and guatemalan orange rocoto.

I have tried growing those varieties, amd they all drop flowers like no other. I'm assuming it's our super high Summer humidity.

I can send you some seeds for some "bulletproof" rocoto cultivars if you would like to give them a go next year. Send me over your addy.

You should give a Tree House IPA another shot BTW. They really do make some epic beer.
