Trippas Organic story of 2012/2013....things could be worse ...

So far my season has gone like this ... goood ... average ... great ... bad .... things are on the up ... and today .... pretty f&^%king annoyed and frustrated ....so many pests ... and the plants are looking much worse then this time last season (when I had no pests to speak of). I had aphids early on during winter ... they were easy to clear off and didn't bother me too much ...

but I have since been having major issues with thrips and broadmites?? (some sort of mite anyway) tiny little buggers which are about the size of a spec of flour (smaller then two spotted or spider mites). So My plants lurch from looking good to looking really terrible and then they bounce back for a while only to be hammered all over again.

Anyway through all of this I am getting some pods to eat so that is a bonus I suppose.

My grow list is as follows

7 pod/pot "Primo" (Junglerain)
Cili Goronong (Junglerain)
Jalapeno "HTM" (Sourced myself)
Prik Luang (Junglerain)
Fatalii (Pepperlover)
Trinidad Seasoning (Pepperlover)
Kerinting (Pepperlover)
Kerinting (Accidental Hybrid Unknown??) (Pepperlover)
2 x Mystery Superhots (1 maybe Trnindad Scorpion "Sunrise"? From Jungle Rain)
Chocolate Bhut (Bonchi)(THSC)
Yellow 7 pot/pod (THSC)
Super Chilli (THSC)
Explosive Ember (THSC)
Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Blend (Junglerain)
Scotch Bonnet TFM (Bonchi)(Junglerain)
Pimenta De Neyde (Soon to be Bonchi)(Junglerain)
Bhut Jolokia 'Assam' (Junglerain)
Bahamian Goat Pepper (Junglerain)
Habanero Chocolate (Bonchi)(Junglerain)
NTR's (THSC)
Douglah 'Alphanerdz strain' (THSC)
Wild Brazil (Pepperlover)
Birdseye HTM (Sourced myself)
Serrano (THSC)
7 Pot (Large) (Pepperlover)
Naga Morich (Pepperlover)
Bonda Ma Jacques (Original seed from THSC but this seed from saved pods from last season)

All of them are strictly organically grown in soil in containers in the limited space of my apartment balcony ...

I am not much of a wordsmith so I usually like to post plenty of pictures of pods (if I have any in the coming months!!) so come and enjoy/share the frustrations of growing in the most pest ridden area in the world :D ... I will post a few photos I shot today later this evening ...

Also thought I would link to my old glog as well just for posterity and self indulgence :) ;) :D

HI Trippa
Nice to see your season is really shifting into gear now. Are the other folks in your family chileheads too, or do you have to soldier on alone?

They will take off though once potted up. I always tend to let them truly outgrow there pots before potting them on. That way I know they will utilise the added root space immediately.

I fully agree with this. I've noticed if the pot is too big they will stall for a while before growing again. If the pot is "just right," they will continue growing. I think this also helps protect against root rot, as well.

Dam phones ...just wrote responses to everyone and not one posted due to a drop out during submission ... sorry will reply soon

Yeah only thing to watch for in the next 3 months or so is flower drop from heat and making sure I keep my watering up.
My immediate Family like chilli products to a point but not as keen on the fresh superhots etc. My mum and dad on the other hand think mild paprika is spicy:D

If I don't catch you again this week stickman ... have yourself a safe and happy Christmas and new year!! Cheers

Looking good mate! Merry Christmas and keep the pod porn coming :fireball:

Thanks Romy!! Merry Christmas to you to bro!! Hopefully will catch you before the Fatman comes but if not enjoy your holidays!!

My thoughts exactly doc. Thanks for stopping in again. Much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you bro. Catch you around soon I am sure

Maori Chistmas bro.

Really need to concentrate on the chilli boards here. .. otherwise I might as well just run into a brick wall repeatably .... hot day here today had 2-3 well wilted when I got home. Drenched them in some fresh water and they should be good to go for another day of heat tomorrow

Hey, Trippa! Hope you are handling the heat, bro. We are still dancing around the
low 30'sF (1-3ËšC), so the baccatums outside just keep on hanging in there! Lows
around 44F in the greenhouse (6-7ËšC).

Have a great Christmas, my friend!

Hey Paul good to see you!

Yeah the heat is OK at the moment .

Was 34c on Sunday and yesterday (Monday) and had to sleep last night with air con on and no blankets and the ceiling fan. But it will only get hotter and more humid so its my plants I am more worried about as they don't have air con :D

I would love to be in the cold of a winter for Christmas for once to be honest so i envy you in so many ways ...although not the lack of chilli plant way ;) .
It Has always been a dream of mine to have a white Christmas ... hopefully one day

Paul to you and yours have a merry and positive Christmas. Enjoy it. Eat drink and be merry!!

Dam phone and typos :/

I had 39.5ºC (103ºF) yesterday trippa with no air con for me, plants were fine (no wilting) as i had drowned them the night before in anticipation of the high temps plus the shade we erected (Frankentent) worked a charm.

If it was up to me mez I wouldn't use air conditioning either but the wife likes it so as they say happy wife ... happy life ;).
Geez 39 is getting up there mez great to hear frankentent held up and your plants as well.
I stupidly thought my plants would be OK in the heat in smaller pots with 36 hrs. Between watering. Wrong on 3 plants it wasn't they are fine though. Bounced back straight away.

It is amazing, these plants can take serious abuse & still bounce back, i think more die through "over loving" than neglect Trips.

Yeah i didn't get that in Kiwi, mozzies the size of sparrows yet no flyscreen`s? a climate screaming out for split system AC`s but everyone makes do with a pedastool fan?

Bit like the Scottish i guess? tight as a fishes arsehole

Hey, Trippa, we had a conversation a while back about Wild Brazil peppers, and
that yours and mine looked different. I serched out this thread from a few years back:
http://thehotpepper....praetermissium/

It would appear that the seeds I sent you are the cumari verdadeira Praetermissum
variety - elongated red pods. It is also referred to as Cumari Pollux. The Yellow round
pods are called the cumari do para, which is a c. chinense variety.

Nice investigative work Paul g Holmes!! ;) so that is quite a big difference then ... completely different sub species. Thanks Paul. I will make sure you get some of the chinense variety soon

That would be super, bro! Another source listed it as a c. baccatum var. praetermissum. You choose!

Those are some pretty spectacular shots Trippa! I tried to get some under similar conditions, but my digital camera doesn't have a setting where I can leave the shutter open for time lapse photos. Nice work.
