Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

I usually mix my recycled soil with my compost/worm castings
and some peat moss. Ideally each 1/3 of the mix,
but that varies depending on what I have on hand... I use it to
amend the container soil. I remove a little each year and throw
it in my recycled bin when I add the new soil mix.

I like using big containers (18-20 gallon) because they are deep
enough they can be thought of as in-ground soil, and can be
treated in a similar manner, I think. I'd like to try Gary's RCW
method on the largest containers.

Some bone meal a few weeks before plant out, and a side dressing
of compost and chicken manure or steer manure does it.  It's about
time to get a load of zoo doo, but I won't be able to do so this
Spring.  Next Spring for sure.  This season, the pots will lie fallow.
They need a rest after this many seasons. Either I'll plant a bunch
of peas in them, or mulch with something light.

Thanks for the info Paul!

I've never done this before ;)

Wow, that's something I've never seen.  Of course, I
germinate in dirt or plugs so I never see the radicle!
Looks like a pretty good germ rate, Ryan. I see a solid
8/11 in the pic.  About 72%, twice my germ rate.
Technically 75% since one went in dirt . Here we have a different batch at 100% after 10 days using the tupperware method

Might plant 1 or 2 more for insurance

Do I have seeds for these? I feel like I should be growing at least one these. How they taste?
Michael!  If you would like some seeds, PM me your addy
and I'll get some out to you Monday a.m.  With your interest
in crossing varieties, you might like toying with this one.  I
think I have a Red But x (PDN x Bonda).  Orange/red pods
with purple foliage - sort of cool.  It's one I'll grow in 2019.

They are pretty hot.  The taste isn't horrible, but I'm not a
good judge of that.  Tristen would have a better idea, maybe.

Pretty amazing to see all the people on board with this grow and all the hard work Paul has put in to growing out, saving seed and distribution of said seed. I still have a couple of packets if anyone interested.
Looking forward to watching this glog in the coming months.

Yeah, Tristen, things are looking up!  Some great
germination results in the mix so far. Gives me
hope for the future   ;)  Seedlings seem to be
true to form thus far.

What's going on in your world, mate?  I'm hoping
you got to have some kind of grow this season.
did you distribute seed to any southern hemisphere
folk?

Small update people! I've sown a few seeds and I have some small hooks on both varieties!

And luckily, my growing accessories have arrived. So now I can properly germinate some of these bad boys! Now I just need to allocate a space in the house for my plants.. I'm fighting over the laundry room with my SO, haha! Unfortunately, I'll probably lose the battle so I'm already looking for a growing tent of some sorts. Tips are appreciated :)

Let's get this going!
