tsurrie's 2016 glog

So this is the new season... can't wait to put the seeds in the dirt.
I just finished preparing the grow "corner" for my future seedlings, and everything works fine.

The lights are prepared and I plan not to go over 200 plants this year.. but we'll see how that goes.

Like last year ... I'm planning to grow mostly chinense's and annums... but there will be some baccatums (Aji Lemondrop, Aji Amarillo,...) and pubescens (Rocoto,...) that  hogleg sent me....

I'm still working on the final grow list.
But I'm really looking forward to start the action in a week or so.

Thanks for watching.. will do the garden update sometime later this week

Very nice pics! I'm glad to see the rain has let up for you and the sun came out!

Have you grown the TS Butch T before? It's hot as blazes but has a fairly unpleasant taste. Kinda like burnt plastic. I smoked mine with cherry wood before drying and grinding to powder, and it improved it somewhat. I think it does best in powder blends in small amounts to punch up the heat. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I'm glad too, as you can imagine.

I have grown it last year, but cant remember the specific taste. It was hot as hell, but not nearly as much as a Brain Strain, that much I know. Had just a few pods on. I have some frozen pods left but will use it to spice up a dish someday.

Great pics. I'm glad your growing Sicmans pod. That is a really cool looking pod. The ones I had were good and hot. I'll be following the progress on that plant. Hope it comes out the same.

Thanks. I wonder what will grow from these. It should be interesting.

And ate first fresh pods with my cucumber salad dinner...
it was Biberiye, and I figured it's just the right color like you see them pickled on photos... but I would let them be for a little while to ripe a bit more.

Glad to see things are moving forward in your garden Uros. Nice looking Beans. Do you pickle peppers with a bit of olive oil in the brine? I'll bet they're great on sandwiches or salads. Cheers!
I pickle them just like I do cuc's, I use only brine (1 part) and water (2 parts), with a bit of salt, sugar, few garlic cloves and whole black pepper. I later remove the garlic cauz I don't like how it turns blue in the jars.

Yeah, the acidic environment does seem to darken the garlic sometimes... It's never happened to me with fermented half-sour pickles, but I only let them ferment for a week and eat them within a week after that. A friend of mine that married an Iranian woman tells me that they pickle garlic there, and it's quite a delicacy, but the garlic turns such a dark brown it almost looks black.

A few more from the garden...

Picked up a bowl of Aronia's at my neighbor and was planning to make some jam after I get back from the holidays.
We're going tomorrow, for about a week. Planning to do some camping and relax by the sea somewhere in south Istria. Have to pack and tend to the garden some, before we leave. So when I come back, I'll post some update on the chilis. I promise :)

So I'll freeze them for the time being, and then decide what to make.

Has anyone combined them with chiles for jam ? I'm planning on adding some apples or maybe apricots to the mix. But will also try chilis for a small "personal" batch.
