tsurrie's 2016 glog

So this is the new season... can't wait to put the seeds in the dirt.
I just finished preparing the grow "corner" for my future seedlings, and everything works fine.

The lights are prepared and I plan not to go over 200 plants this year.. but we'll see how that goes.

Like last year ... I'm planning to grow mostly chinense's and annums... but there will be some baccatums (Aji Lemondrop, Aji Amarillo,...) and pubescens (Rocoto,...) that  hogleg sent me....

I'm still working on the final grow list.
But I'm really looking forward to start the action in a week or so.

Nice pod porn Uros... looks like things are coming into line for you! The bowl of berries you pictured looks an awful lot like Blueberries to me. Is that another name for them or a different plant entirely? I like making jams or hot sauces with fruity-tasting peppers and local fruit. I made a tasty hot sauce a couple of years ago with Tomatoes, Blueberries, Chocolate Habaneros, Douglahs, Carrot, Onion and a touch of Maple syrup. I also make a killer jam with Peaches and Scotch Bonnets.
Cheers!

Thanks.

They are not blueberries. Aronia's grow on a bush and are more like black currants, but way more tasty. They actually origin from north america. Natives used them for a lot of health issues. Google them. Just made a jam with apricots and aronias and it's good. Will make a great combo with chilis, I bet.

Thanks for the info on jams, will post the results when I make some.

We spent the whole day by the river swimming and playing with kids, so when I came home, I had some hot craving.... for pizza.

I didn't feel like ordering out, because anything hot isn't hot enough of course.
So I decided to dig into my frozen chilis bag and pulled out one Aji Umba.

made a pie... homemade tomato sauce, cheese, a bit of sweet corn, fresh basil.... and sliced that Umba on a quarter of it....

You got it going on!

Pods all over the place, and very nice pods by the way

Pizza and a cold beer, can't beat it!

Thanks. You're right, can't beat it!

Nice pic of the pie you made! Did you get the beer at the concert or a retailer? Any new activity in your garden yet?

Thanks. It's a retailer, I wish I went to the concert though. Never saw ACDC live.

The garden is slowly progressing. A few ripe Hot Wax-es and Thai's, others still green... will take some pictures and post soon.

Looks like there will be some pods on the garden... some of them are already ripening...

Tomatoes are getting big

Also tried this AS chili from one of the pots at home and Hungarian Hot Wax from the garden.
ashotwax15082016.jpg

The taste was just like I remember. AS chili is much more tastier. Crunchy and juices are flowing like when you take a bite in a fresh Kapija. The heat is greater in Hot Wax though, but I'd say not above 20k Scovie's for any of them...

Glad your getting some ripe pod's. The FM Jalapeño looks great.

Brain Strains are looking good. That's a hot one.

Thanks. Yeah I can't wait to pick a ripe FM Jalapeno.. they look so special when they're ripe...

Bran Strains are probably the hottest ones I got... tried it last year for the first time.. it "destroyed" me for an hour at least :) :)
I should've known better.

Me either, though I think I'd wait for Brian Johnson to come back to the mike. Axl Rose fronting for AC/DC... really?!

Nice to see some color in your garden after such a rocky start. Keep up the good work!

Nice to see the poddage and especially the coloring up ;) And those brains look like they're going to hurt!

The best time of the year is approaching!

Do you stagger you tomato and pepper grow? I set my tom's out a full 30 days before the peppers here.

ah yes, I know they'll hurt, but I'll be stupid enough to try them again for sure :)
with a good dinner this time, I hope...

Stagger? I'm not sure what you mean. Do I wait before I put them outside? Usually I put them out there when the frost is over.... in pots and the garden...I'm sowing tomatoes much later though because they grow much faster

Well, I was a huge GN'R fan when growing up, so Axl Rose I like... but, with Guns N' Roses and not ACDC.. but you gotta admit, he's done quite a decent job... not bad at all..but nobody can ever replace Brian, no way! Got a local cover band and the singer sounds better than Axl to me... :) but I'm not the one to judge, should see them live and I didn't...

Thanks man.. you know I'm glad things are getting colorful... and tastier... mmm

Me, I guess I'm old. I like the Brian Johnson AC/DC, but Bon Scott AC/DC is my favorite. Although Angus got into some more serious guitar playing as he got older. I'm still trying to get the intro to Thunderstruck down ;)

As for my stagger question. Here in South Texas I plant my tomatoes in the dirt March 1st if the 10 day forecast is favorable. They're 14-18"s tall and I bury all but the last 4-6"s in a 45° angle, after trimming the lower leaves. This way all the stem turns to roots. After a few years of planting peppers the same time of the year, I've learned that they just sit there and do nothing for 30 plus days. So now they hit the dirt April 1st, and do better than ones planted on March 1st. Hence my stagger question. Now back to tomatoes for a temperature reference. March 1st here, is when night temps are historically 40° F and above and a frost is like 2%, in which case I turn on the sprinkler to defeat the moisture sucking of the frost.

Don't feel alone in this... we're all similarly afflicted. ;)

To be honest, I liked Slash's guitar much better than Axl's vocals, but that's just me, and there's room enough for everybody's opinion in the world. :)  the vid of the cover band wasn't bad at all...The musicians were good across the board, but the vocalist was struggling a bit with the meter.  I suspect it's because English isn't his first language, so a good performance from him too.

Well, same here. Slash was the reason I started playing. I always wondered what would it be like if GNR had another singer, not that I'm complaining, they seem to click well and the songs kick ass real good... Snakepit albums are very good too. VR with Scott... liked the Scott vocals but the music didn't stick with me as much.

This is one of the unknown plants on the edge of the garden (forgot to label it when transplanting to solo cups) - labeled this one as "Mystery plant 1" on the garden photo after planting out, but it's not Sicman's mystery.... well, maybe it even is, but I doubt it... looks like some kind of Bhut, doesn't it ... well, I like the look of the pods no matter what they'll be
