Voter turnout

I know politics is not allowed and this is not about politics. Rather, it is about what is probably the most important thing one can do today - vote!

First, did you cast a ballot? I don't care which party or what issues you may support, did you vote?

Second - was the turnout in your precinct average, above average or below average?

While I was voting, and I know some of the poll workers, a fluorescent light started dripping some dark brown goopy stuff - the stuff normally seen when a ballast burns out. I advised them to turn the lights out so a fire didn't break out - they said they couldn't. Well, either they could or a circuit blew because that bank of lights went out. They weren't going to do anything about it but I reminded them that in OH, the polls stay open until 7:30 and that by a little after 6:00, it is dark outside. The lady decided they needed someone to fix the lights or at the least bring in flashlights so people could see to vote.

BTW, the workers said the turnout this year was almost as large as two years ago.

They posted a few hours ago that they reduced their expectations for turnout in our county. I voted about 11:00am, and the place was almost empty. I find it frustrating, as our area has been hit hard between the economy and corrupt politicians - we really need people to vote. But doubly frustrating, because more than half of the "races" only had a single contender - how can change be effected if no one is willing to stand up? It kind of makes it hard to vote when you don't really have a choice. Still and all, there are countries where the priviledge to vote doesn't exist - we all need to do our small part to ensure we continue to have it.

First, we ought to have voter restrictions. If you can't read the ballot because of illiteracy you should not be able to vote. Second, if you haven't read the Constitution, don't know who your present reps are and can't name the VP and next in line to the presidency you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Finally, if you get any subsidies from the government i.e. welfare, etc. you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

And one more lastly, if you can't name at least one candidate for each position you're voting for you shouldn't be able to cast a vote for that position. The last thing we need is a bunch of ignorant people voting.

THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. IT IS A REPUBLIC. If you don't know the difference you shouldn't be able to vote.

I'm not on welfare but should be because of my disability. I shouldn't be able to vote? I'm handicapped, not stupid.

AtomicArmadillo and hot stuff - can't you read? I didn't post this to be political, only to ask how voter turnout in your area was. You people's response is why threads get shut down. Stay on topic or please sit on your fingers!

Sorry Mike. Can't help myself. Can't stand people blindly telling people to vote who shouldn't be voting. If you have to tell someone to vote they shouldn't be voting.

I believe voter turnout here was heavy. There are 3500 registered voters in the 3 polling places here, as of 4pm 900 at one had voted.

Saw this quote on a Yahoo article. I agree completely....

"Until we stop lobbying in Washington we can expect the same ole same ole.
Republicans and Democrats alike are selling us out."

You are doing absolutely nothing but trading one crook for another (and wasting time and gas to go to the polls). Till the system is changed.....there's really no point.

I will go vote when they add a complete restructure of the government on the ballot.

Although I'd like to agree that lobbying is paying off politicians to vote for whoever is backing the lobbyist, and I'd like to comment on the incorrectness of the collegate vote system, but that would be getting off topic too much so I will just chime in that we both voted and fwiw, on several positions, left it blank since we did not approve of the choice(s).

I voted. The turnout seemed a little low to me, but the polls had only been open for fifteen minutes when I was there this morning.

I voted Angle, Harry Reid is a joke.

Musta' been 30 TV trucks between NYNY and Monte Carlo today. T-Party convention so I hear. Made my life hell this afternoon. I can dig it though. Waiting on results. What me worry anyhow. I'm goin' to Texas. "..the stars are bright..late at night...deep in the heart of T....."

I only voted cause I pass by my place on my way to class. Turnout was pretty large here, more-so than two years ago in my eyes.

The system (structure of government in this country) is hopelessly broken. Until it's completely re-worked there is no point.

Democrat....Republican.....doesn't really matter. They're interchangable, eaqually corrupt, and they're all out for themselves. Anyone who thinks politicians care what "you" want or need is delusional.

Voting out the incumbant only replaces him/her with another person that is working under the same structure as the last person and WILL NOT hold their promises as soon as the realize they can get RICH by casting their votes to the highest bidder.

I know most of you don't agree....but that is and will be....my opinion.

Disillusionment shouldn't lead to inaction. I think pretty much everyone has to agree the current system ain't working, so let's call that a given. But you say "until it's completely reworked...." - who is going to rework it? You also say "I will go vote when they add a complete restructure of the government...." - they who?
