WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
  • 5 Jalapeño
  • 1 Cayenne
  • 1 Serrano
  • 7 Datil
  • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
  • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Need to start clearing our yard to grow more & more & more peppers ;) (*WG rollseyes*)

Top left to right: two Thai Hot and one Cayenne. Bottom row all Datil. BTW I don't grow everything in clay pots, just happen to get a good deal on a bunch in yard sale for a few bucks.

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

8 Jamaican Habs in ground and cherry tomatoe in the pot, I need to find a good place to plant the tomatoe soon.

Top left Serrano and more Datil, I'm probably going to gift a few Datils for xmass and some of the other peppers

Edit: final list copied to first post from post #40. These seeds were soaked in water on 12/31/12 and planted 1/1/13 \o/

Edit: This list is constantly being updated as new hooks pop. Even though I lost #5 :/ I will not give up as there are 2 other seeds in dat egg mon ....

Beautiful pics and tasty grub per usual Ray Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plants are gonna start moving on up now that the weather is heating up :flamethrower:
Jamie now we just need it to stop raining for a few days are you guys getting as much as we are down here. It’s almost like clockwork, morning rain a few hours, then the afternoon showers kick in into the night. Plants are love it but too much of a good thing isn’t good in the long run or something like that, lol.

Awesome poddage.
Thanks Sawyer, can’t wait for them to color up …

Lookin good!
Thanks Scott ^_^
Hmmm... your cheapo lens looks good from my house, all the pics look great!
I agree, this last set did come out fine but I was referring to shooting the little head of a flower pod getting ready to push through the stem/node. I did have a hard time with the prior group of macros and IMHO they weren’t as good as these. That's why I implied it might not be up to the task as it's not a real macro lens.
Happy to see you're in pod land!
Thanks, soon come I guess, hehe

Wow, great pictures! Looks like the pods are coming on strong.
Does your climate get too hot for the peppers to set pods later on, or is that just a tomato problem when the temps get up there?
Our climate is tropical and you can grow peppers year round, winter pods are smaller and my plants don’t get as full as we have too much shade in our yard. For my plants location, they run in overdrive production during summer. The Everglades wild tomatoes I grow can take much more sun, but they love loads of water so this time of year is great for them. I’m hoping I can get the vines growing all over my fence this summer and that way they should get more sun.

Wow!
I'm speechless, great photography from the "root shot"..I swear they were moving in the photo. I've noticed when the roots take off theres a huge surge of growth. When they're bound the process tends to shut down. That's one reason an overwintered plant or a house plant will flourish once the roots are pruned or giving the roots less restriction by potting up.

:D ...Nice doc.....You may need to have that "notarized" by the MoA........maybe Steve can have that done............ha

The food looks like something I'd want infront of me now.......that made my stomach growl....yum

Cool photo of the plant with the blooming pepper flowers. JA Hab or Thai ?

Now I'm all hyped looking at the JA pod photo. I'm craving for some fresh pods..........by mid July for my JA Habs.

This is always a good read stopping here and checking out the latest.

Good luck on those super-hots, the plants will thrive in your climate.

Very nice, cant wait till mine start getting pods.

Have pics to upload of my plants to my glog but left my usb cord at home....again LOL
Thanks for commenting, why not pull the SD card out of the camera and upload to PC via it if you have a card reader.

Dat fake certificate may have the Jamaican Mob out after you!!! Don't worry though mon...they will accept pods as a pay off...well either that or the :high:other crop...
ROFL, believe it or not that is an official envelope from the JA MoA but the rest was in jest, thus the “Whoa” to give a tip off. I didn’t wana get anyone mad, hehe. Annie has her name on some seeds from the first big true shaped pod but yours is on there behind her if you’d like ^_^

Great stuff...and great pics brother! Keep them coming!
Thanks brethren, it’s always nice to receive a compliment from one of the top growers and foodie specialist here ^_^

WOO, I turn my back for a minute and your like BAM, wid all dam wicked pics! Podding up and all. Great sutff going on down there Ramon.

You remind me I need to find a good Paella pan. I love it.
Thanks Bill, your plants must be booming too I presume. All this rain helped the first two days and now I think it’s a bit much. Yea making family Paella’s is fun, especially outside on the grill like the Spaniards do it, "al aire libre." The larger steel one works great for that ^_^ Back when I got these I sourced them out of Miami but now it’s not that hard to source anything with the net and no drive time. Good luck in finding one that suits all your needs, hell just talking about them makes me crave some. Oh and great luck with the house venture ^_^

Thanks Greg, while the big recovering JA Hab was not root bound, I should have trimmed back her roots for that added grow you speak of, dam I should have asked you then. Not sure how far you went back, the first root shots are from the MoA transplants click here and the ones I think you are talking about are the second set of pictures which are from your seed click here. I’m loving how they are jumping, I can’t wait to try some poddage from them. I should have never wasted your seed by starting them in January, as I’ve never done that before and that’s probably why I lost most :( But I saved some and I’ll be starting more soon, thanks mon!

Not sure which flower you are talking about, but if it’s the one here it’s one from my Cayenne pepper plant.

Also thanks for the food compliment, IMHO it’s great to hear a compliment from the king of foodie on THP. Hope you have a great week and weekend mi Chicago Brethren ^_^

Mini update: 4 of my largest JA Habs, the one in the upper left is the girl that is still in recovery.

Close up of recovering mama, her leaves are a bit yellow as we’ve been having non stop rain so she’s over watered. Drying up today but not sure everything will dry up before we get the next rain …

Two of the others near her, trying to show the lushness in the leaves and both are full of little pods. Hoping they mature over the next month ^_^

As always, thanks everyone for reading and commenting ^_^

Glad to see mama making that recovery! Still waiting on that rain you promised Ramon....

Here's to podage!
Don’t know what happened, I did my rain dance, even wore seaweed on my head which is an old trick to make the surf pick up and make the rain go north, hahaha. Thanks for the good wishes for my old gal in recovery. So I owe you another rain dance ... Hope it works this time ^_^

Hi Ramon, It looks like you're gonna be a busy guy in a little while with all the love from your chiles.
Thanks Rick and that’s a good great thing ... bet you’ll be busier though as you’ve got loads more going on than me, again a great thing
One question... with all the coffee you're feeding them, are they gonna keep you up all night with a combination of ringburn and the caffeine jitters? :P
Rick I’m not using coffee on a regular basis other than some in the soil. I cut back the spray to spot treatment. I’m now using more mineral oil for pests and it seems to work well, I have cut the bug population to manageable numbers and rarely see them. The coffee you see on the leaves and pods is from early morning spray the day I shot the pictures because I saw some bugs. I think if you use coffee too frequent some bugs can become immune but that is just a guess on my part. They’ll clean up fine on next rain, lol.

Thanks everyone for checking, reading & comments ^_^

Nice update! I'm sure the mama will be fine. It looks like it is turning around already, and big rain patterns happen in nature so you gotta figure the plants have adapted to it.

Yeah, I think that one picture there was a bug hiding on the backside of the bud...sneaky bastage!
I checked that day you spotted and did not see any but must have been my eyes as the next day I spotted some tiny little brown specs/things (no movement that I could tell). I don’t know what they were but found some nasty pincher bug in the soil, killed her and the little eggs on and around the flower buds. Poor MoA, I wish I would have taken my time as I burned some of the top leaves with my solution but killed them bastages.

Pods look great..especially the ripe one! :D

Mini-update was great, too. Come on recovering mama!
Thanks Doc Brent, I still have very few ready to pick, only 2 but soon come. Can’t wait till we’re all pulling loads of pods off our plants and posting pod porn ^_^

Not sure about adapting to too much water, when some of my plants get too much I can see some yellowing in the leaves but they certainly are flowering up a lot and budding … I guess it’s mainly old big mama and 2 others that’s yellowed some so you must be right :) The other 3 in the 15 gallon pots are still looking lush ^_^

Ramon, nice to see the ole girl comin back to you. Your Jamaican habs are simply awesome. Cool pods. They have the best flavor! Sure do make some good Dip! MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm......WalkGood's Ja hab Dip..
Thanks Steve ^_^

I was just commenting on Gary’s glog (Windchicken) how big my Jamaican MoA leaves are. They look good enough to pick and eat as a salad, lol. So I just ran out to measure and take a few shots. The largest ones are a little over nine inches …
