What does everyone think about the 2012 Solar Flares ending the world?

I was watching one of my favorite shows a few minutes ago, and I got scared sh**less. It says that apparently next year we will get a solar flare so large that it will wipe out the earth. BUT, the more I read about it, it looks like WORST case scenario will be wide spread power and communication loss.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm kinda scared. I'm a LITTLE calmer now that I have read a few articles that debunk the "end of the world" myth. But it's still scary nonetheless. I just feel so helpless, you know?
What does everyone think about this?
 
Well for me it's a religious question which is more or less a verboten subject. But my faith says Jesus will come when Jesus will come, all the elements will melt away, the universe rolling up like a scroll into nothing and then we stand before the judgment seat and all those with faith in Christ get a new world where either aphids and thrips don't exist or we don't care. We can eat the superhots w/ or w/o a burning rectum depending on whether we like it or not. :)

So I'm not really worried about solar flares "ending" the world. Really messing things up a bit, still not worried. I live by a 91 mile man made lake stocked with fish, an over population of deer the ability to find any type of food or natural medicine my family needs. The kids may drive my wife crazy not having any electronics but that's what the woods are for. :)

They said that IF some large solar flare hit us that WOULD "kill the earth," it would be here within 15 minutes. So we probably wouldn't even know it's coming. They say that is faster than our "early warning detection" is of stuff like that. So, unless we were actually watching the sun at that exact moment, which 99.9% of the population does not have the capability of, we would be ignorant to our deaths.
I don't know. I just love my life, and I love my wife. I want to spend as much time with her as I can.

Unless you commit suicide you already will die from something you absolutely no control over. Not worth worrying about either way.
 
I don't think anything is gonna happen, but dieing from a solar flare? I don't see how that'll happen I mean all I get is satellites are gonna be getting fryer probably but don't know about anything else
 
Yeah, I know. I'm just one of those crazy people that gets scared over dumb crap like that. I wish I wasn't that way. Oh well.

Well I guess a fried satellite could lose orbit and crash unto my dinning room table or bed. :)
 
There is a scientist on Youtube who has been studying Solar flare patterns for a long time. He has pretty successfully predicted all of the weather that we have had for the past few years including the big freeze that tou guys in the northern hemisphere are having at the moment No one in powers that be will listen to him or give him any credence though because they cant make money from a big freeze, only from "Global Warming" carbon credits.His name is Piers Corbyn http://www.youtube.c...player_embedded Folks should start listening to him cos he seems to know what he is talking about. As to the Sloar flares wiping us out, "Que Sera Sera"
we cant do much about it if its true. I have seen a few docos about it and if it is big enough to obliterate the earth hiding underground for a year or two wont help much. All of the governments around the world are preparing for something big to happen though. Why else are they building massive underground bunkers. These arn't old cold war ones these are brand new facilities. Some people think that Jesse Ventura is a crack pot but he asks all the right questions and he has tasted that power being a state govenor so he would be in the know. Look up his videos on the new Denver airport and many others dealing with similar senarios and preparations. There is plenty of food for thought. Governments arent going to tell us plebs what they are doing or we would all rush their bunkers and try to get in.

I hope that if it happens it just wipes out the electrics for a few years, it would do the world a huge favour to slow down and get back to basics get back to pioneer daysbut if that were the case you had better be prepared to wait it out and fend for yourself because it would be more like the wild west. People arnt too nice when they get hungry, cold and homeless so you had better be prepared to defend you and yours from whatever comes at ya. Lots of homemade pepper spray would help.
Local police and armed forces would be next to useless in that senario to because they will be more inclined to look after themselves and there families.
I am ready food wise, armaments wise, tool wise as I can be. I grow my own food, save seed. We have a shitload of animals domestic and native that we can eat too. Heaps of wood for fires etc but it all depends on how bad the event is as to how we all cope.
Water would be a bigger concern cos if the earth frazzles so does all of the surface water too.
We will just have to deal with it if it happens and we are still alive. But rest assured I wont sit back and let anyone take anything of mine without a fight.
All that said and done its not going to stop me carrying on as usual. I have wasted to many chilli growing years doing other stuff and its time to catch up.

we have the SOHO satellite that monitors the sun and solar activity.

canada got hit in 1989 by a geomagnetic storm that took out one of our power grids causing blackouts in eastern canada and north eastern usa.

some, i want to say scientists but its not clear as to their scientific background(and they usually have a book for sale), talk about the earth going into a pole reversal and perhaps start spinning in the opposite direction, apparently it happens every 730,000 years and we are on the dawn of 729,999 years. but the only proof is weak based on things found in the earth stratus - if you can trust carbon dating. I have viewed some websites that go into detail about the effects of pole reversal but again they start out referencing the last pole reversal, that they have absolutely no tangible proof of, then slip in the Egyptian and Mayan writings, then amplified their points and try to get the reader to stop thinking of the fact that there is a big time gap between 730,000 years and when the Egyptians and Mayans actually walked the earth(they try to make it seem like they were around at that time but they actually were around 1,300 years ago for mayans and we still can't figure out proper timing for egyptians, it varies from 5 - 15 thousand years).

there are scientists that predict we have a 1 in 48,000 chance of getting hit by an asteriod(you have a 1 in 354,000 chance of dieing in a plane crash, think how many flights happen every hour on earth).

...oh, and don't forget about planetX, then there is the comet apophis, how about some nostradomas writings, sun spots, jupitor,sun,earth alignment, the antichrist, we have so many end of world options to pick from and you can donate to any one of those many, many websites.

But rest assured I wont sit back and let anyone take anything of mine without a fight

I would hope, if such an event occured, our first thoughts would be "how can i help my fellow man".

My wife and I watched a story on CBC's The Nature of Things a few weeks back.

And it seemed that almost all of the leading proponents of 2012 were either looking for a donation or were selling books, dvd's, survivalist supplies, or bunker style living accommodations.

2012, from the looks of it, is a great business opportunity for some of those willing to capitalize of people's fears and insecurities.

And I remember back to 1999, when the computers were going to seize up and the civilized and technological world as we knew it was going to come to a screeching halt at the stroke of midnight Dec 31, 1999.

But in the end what really happened, besides a whole lot of electric generators being sold and some food being stocked up on was...nothing really. And the next day business went on as if nothing had happened...and it hadn't. ;)

There will always be fear mongers and when 2012 passes, they will be onto the next End Of The World Crisis Scenario.

The JW's used to predict the end of the world. They did it at least three such times in the 1900's. The last time they predicted the end times, in 1975, and it didn't happen, 1/3 of their church left them. Since that mass exodus of church members, the JW's haven't dared call for another end times scenario...it just doesn't pay for them to do so, no matter what actually ends up happening.

i remember helping lots of companies convert their software and databases over to adjust for the year 2000 and my employer enforced a 24 hour on call notice and if called we would have to stop everying a make contact with the company in trouble(no plan if more than 1 company called at the sametime). December 31, 1999 i was sitting at my desk at 4pm and the phone rang, gulp, didn't know what to expect, phew, it was the wife, maybe she was calling to see how we planned on celebrating the new millenium with all my employer's restrictions on what i could and couldn't do.....nope....she was calling from her doctor's office, she was 8 months pregnant and her doctor was admitting her to the hospital to be induced as her blood pressure had skyrocketed and her doctor feared for her safety. I had to drop everything and take her to the hospital, back then you couldn't use cell's in hospitals especially in the baby ward.

Well, midnight came, all hospital monitors were still working, nurses celebrating in the halls as the new year came in and new babies were born into this world, Samantha was born at 12:30pm after almost 20 hours of labour. So, instead of lives ending, lives were just beginning.

.........as for my employer, they terminated my position 5 days later after 13 years of loyal service and assisting in the generation in millions of dollars for them...happy f@#king new year.

prepare for the worst & pray or hope for the best. cuz if there is a society breakdown it will get ugly, it'll become a bartering system & money is worthless. forget the saying " got milk "....it'll be " got ammo ? "

as for solar flares, yes they're talking about a big one happening around next year. if a major solar flare does hit earth you'll have more to worry about than just loosing some satilites cuz solar flares affect everything electronic & could fry them. now in this electronic world we live in that in its self could bring world turmoil if its bad enough.
then you have the issue about radiation in the solar flare, how much of it will penetrate our atmosphere or damage the atmosphere that allows radiation in easier ?

theres far more theories about the age around 2012.
its not just the mayans or egyptains that speak of 2012 about the end of the world or if its the end of the world as we know it & a begining of a new time. theres other cultures & profits (sp is wrong LOL) that speak of 2012 too.

as for polar change. it could happen or not, though its not gonna happen in 1 day it'll take at least months or years to fully change the polars. but if that happens it'll surely bring chaos on earth while its happening.

as for an astroid, maybe maybe not. govts are keeping track of these so if something was gonna hit within the next 2 years they'd know about it (or not telling the masses ?) or something changes their path in space then we're SOL.
though earth does need to worry about an astroid within about 20-30 years that will be a near miss or a direct hit if it flys through a certain path in space.

then you have the unforeseeable thing of a certain type of sun or something that blew up thousands of years ago in space somewhere we cant even see right now. the energy given off would so massive that it would completely kill earth if earth was in the path of that energy. BTW the only warning would be the light you see right before it destroys earth. I think they say it'll rip away earths atmosphere & be full of radiation.

watching those types of shows bum me out hearing the theorys...but at the same time interesting LOL...
 
I forgot to mention about the comment about...cant even predict weather. ancient cultures lived by the stars,sun,moon so they studied all of it & were in touch with it all, far more than people today.
those ancient cultures were able to predict solar flares, meteroids, cycles of planets/suns, etc....
