What's your Hobby (Chillis excluded)

I have been talking about some of the things that i do as hoobies and to keep the mind and body active, and i thought i would share and see what others do that we don't usually talk about on this forum all the time.

Ok, I have a compound bow and love to pull it out on a regular basis and use it either on targets or live game. It is a 60 - 70Lb, Hoyt Pro Elite Camo and i use aluminium shaft arrows with screw in heads.

I have a few rifles, which i mostly use for target shooting lately. I have a 22. calibre brono model 2 that you can buy for about $400AUS and i have modified mine and it is now worth about $4000AUS. I have a 222. Remington 700 BDL heavy barrel Varmit rifle that has also been modified for target shooting. I shoot in a competition that simulates field shooting and it is shot and a national level. I have 1 Australian championship trophy and 2 state championship trophies and lots of minor awards, which i'm not unhappy to say i'm pretty proud of...

I also love to collect and drink whisky. It is a real passion (like chillis) that isn't affected by winter.:)

I have ridden horses all my life and spent many years fox hunting (Exactly the same as the English version, with the hounds and the horn and all the red coats) and it wqas great times. Don't do the fox hunting so much anymore but still love to get on the horse and go for a ride...

I work as a contracts manager with a large Aluminium smelter in the hunter valley which isn't far from home and i Have a electrical trade backround, and spent many years as an electrical supervision working for fire detection and suppression companies. (just thought i'd throw that in so people get a better idea of me, and i don't mind saying what i do for a living).

Anyway, let us know what you do as a hobby or as a escape from the hassle of organised life......

I've shown you mine, now show me yours...:P

Hey, now Moyboy that's something I used to say when I was a kid.......I was a deviant little kid and a teen too:hell::lol:. (The I'll show you mine, you me yours:lol:) Anyways, from what we were talking about one of our hobbies are pretty similar. I'm most definitely into hunting. I enjoy deer hunting in anyway. I hunt them with a rifle, shotgun, muzzloader, bow, whatever. I have some guns that I sold because I was broke a few years ago trying to road race motorcycles in competition. (That was a HUGE passion of mine until I realized on my budget there was no way in hell I was going to pay for it:() However, I do still have a few. I have a bolt action 30-06, an old semi-auto 12 gauge, an old .22 semi-auto, an inline .50 caliber Traditions muzzloader, a kentucky long rifle replica flintlock made by penderosoli, my wifes .243 (Yeah, it's a tackdriver and I like to shoot it too. She's a great shot by the way.), and I have a solocam compoung made by buckmaster set at 70 lbs shooting carbon arrows with blazer vains and a white wrapping. I also enjoy getting out there Rabbit hunting when I'm bored in about February or Marchish from icefishing, and it's not deer season.
Now fishing, I really love fishing as well. I've been doing that forever. When I was a kid I used to fish almost everyday. Few things beat a fresh meal of fish. I've caught walleye, pike, perch, musky, trout, bluegill, catfish, silverbass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, crappie, ect. My main two types of fishing that I enjoy the most now is flyfishing for gills (They are small, but taste ohhhhh soooo goood!!) and icefishing. (Kills time in the winter and the crappie and pike fishing is good through the ice.) I enjoy fishing for channel cats quite a bit as well. They are nasty bottom feeders, but out of a clean lake they are actually one of my favorites to eat. They are huge fish, fight hard, and you can catch alot with the right bait and spot.
Hmmm.........what else to I like. Oh yeah, not only am I obsessed with these things, but I'm also quite the nerd when it comes to mushrooms. If there's been a good rain around here I'm out looking for edible mushrooms. Not only do I get ALOT of excersise doing that, but I get some very unique and tasty shrooms for dinner, if the seasons right I pick strawberries, blackberries, black raspberries, grapes (Bitter, but great in jelly.), and blueberries if I'm up north were I see them more. However, the trick is you can't be lazy and you have to REALLLY study what you are picking. Bad shrooms can be deadly. I think my favorite mushroom of all to pick is the Hen of the Woods, or "Maitake" as they call it in Japan.
Oh, did I mention I love motorcycles, cooking, and I have a major chile obsession too?? lol!

I also love to collect and drink whisky. It is a real passion (like chillis) that isn't affected by winter.
making nutterz, flying, fishing, skiing and cooking. I also like to travel and do a little photography but the Nut company is very time consuming. So now, after five, I drink and put crooked labels on my bags of nutterz looking at pics I took while traveling. Its so much fun.

Hobbies? Hmmmmmm.....lets see here.....drinking, knives, mountain biking, women, motorcycles, cars, aircraft(and anything else turbine powered), most forms of motorsport racing except nascar, women, martinis, reading, poetry, anything from the Truman-Eisenhower-Kennedy era, anything involving history in general, and i dabble in law, psychology, linguistics, guns, numismatics and a little bit of philosophy. I think i've got it all covered.

I like cars, working on them etc, computers,oh yeah NASCAR(sorry sickmont lol) is a must at this household..My daughtor is getting me back into fishing.Watching the dirt track races at the local track is a good pasttime

Lets see,,any kind of racing basically.I have 16 rifles and sidearms so yes hunting is a biggie for me. They range from ruger 1022 to my baby barrett M-82A1 50 cal.Fishing , boating ,cooking , hiking basically anything outdoors. Now even working towards the gardening end getting a yr rd set up put together.

Reading, reading and writing poetry and short stories, photography, fishing, camping, grandkids and greatgrands..hobby? Sure spoiling them is great fun! I have worked on genealogy ( family history) for myself and others for 40 years. Growing most anything, if not peppers, houseplants and flowers, veggies.

I have some health problems and was told I'd never garden any more but... now I plant more in revenge lol. You can do anything even with limitations. If you wallow in self pity you get stuck so get up and get going. Life's too short for a long pity party so get busy living or get busy dying.

Well It was pretty late for me when i started this thread and i had just worked 16 hours straight, but i still can't believe i forgot a few things. Big things.

I love motorcycles. Not restoring or anything, but riding. I'm happy to admit I'm a bit of a weekend warrior. I own a Yamaha VXS 1300 V-Star Cruiser. I bought it new at the beginning of the year. My g/f and I mostly do day trips but occasionally we disappear for 3 or 4 days, and come back feeling a whole lot better (well she does, I'm usually ready for a shower and a sleep )

I love cooking all sorts of meals and sweets. I also love making fresh bread. Not in a bread maker but by hand. I am trying to perfect traditional sour dough but for some reason i couldn't get my starter to form, (I've since been told that as sour dough is made through the wild yeast process it would make sense that the starter would need to be outside to start. durr).

I am even looking to build an outdoor pizza style open brick oven for pizza, breads and roasts, mmmmmmmmm:drooling:

I love fishing as well. I mostly do sea fishing off the rocks or from a boat. I have been know to do a small amount of fresh water fishing but i don't have any great spots really close and I'm only 30km's from the coast so it is much easier. Plus i live only minutes away from the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia, over four times the size of Sydney Harbour. The lake is 24 km long and has 174 km of foreshore. Lake Macquarie. The lake is good for bream, flathead, taylor, catfish, dew fish, king fish, and even very large sharks.....

I also like reading up on Ancient cultures up to about 500BC.

hixs, my brother had a ruger 1022 semiauto years ago, but in 1996 the Australian gun laws changed and all semiauto's were banned. It was a great little bit of gear too....

pepperfever, The kids are a hobby. I love to get my nieces and feed them up on lollies and red drink and then send them home.. They love their uncle pip and my brother goes off at me every time.

I love food. Cooking, eating, even shopping for food. I also like to shoot pool, watch sports (pretty much all, but specifically the Pittsburgh Steelers, NY Yankees, Penn State football, and the Lakers), hunt, fish, drink, go to the beach, and spend time with my family.

Like MoyBoy, I like to ride and mod my m/c, but I'm waaaaayyy down the other end of the spectrum. I ride the world's most popular motor bike. Can you guess what it is?

Well, It's the Honda CT110. In various guises world wide, its numbers are huge. Long distance is a dream of mine, but it will take some time to organise, and I'll have to rebuild another engine as a spare, as well as carry heap of kit.

In the meantime, I'm a peak hour traffic "warrior", and a weekend modder.

Other than that, I do like to camp, bushwalk and watch obscure movies/post-1990's TV series. oh, and sleep late. Gotta love student life!

Hey, moyboy that's that's pretty funny about your nieces. Oddly, I'm on the other end though. I think my sister babies her kids too much and my wife and I are stricter on them.(My wifes the babysitter too though.) However, I still love playing with them and they sure always seem really excited to see me. However, I am energetic and lord knows I can wind them up.lol! So in my own way I get them the same way before they see there Mom again. Also, like I said I used to be into roadracing, but somewhere down the road I may get a sport touring bike and do the traveling around the country with my wife. I've always wanted to drive up through Canada and up to Prudhoe bay Alaska. That would be a LOOOOOOONG and scenic bike ride. One hell of an adventure actually. The only problem is I need the bike, and the time off to do it when it's not the cold season. For some reason I don't think doing it out of the short window of warmth would be good.

My hobbies include, Mountain Biking (just got a new steed :)), Drinking Beer, Occasional use of my compound bow (good arrows are expensive and i am a novice), Listening to really loud music (got a kickass homemade sub-box), Spudguns (potato cannons) here is a link to a very informative site http://www.spudfiles.com/ this is a really fun hobby but illegal in Australia (if you get caught, hehehe) you guys strike me as the kind of people that would enjoy such a hobby.
I also love Cooking, anything really, from Chilli Sauce to 2 minute noodles, just love.
Thats all i can think of for now- apart from the internet, i don't know if that is a hobby or an addiction though.:)

I was shooting one of those things on the 4th of July this year!!:lol:. My friend had one that hooked up to an air compressor with a giant cylinder to hold the pressure. Then you hit the valve switch. WHOAH!!! We threw a tube of cault in it and I lost site of that thing before it started coming back down. Yeah, it wasn't by a subdivision either. Kind of out in the country, but it was pretty fun.

Yes yes, the old spud gun is a fun thing to play with. I got in a bit of trouble as a young bloke when i fired one with a frozen orange in it (was young and silly). Well it went about 300 meters and smashed the windscreen of a neighbours car.... while they were driving it...

Lets just say, the belt came out and i didn't walk properly for a few days. And deserved every bit of it.

Technology has come a long way since the old "spray and pray" style spudguns.
I build piston actuated co-axials, fuel metered combustions and also Hybrids, a mix between the two i.e. Compressed air and fuel (butane), here is a pic of one that can put foam earplugs through sheet metal :)

And a damage pic, water filled can got blasted at around 650fps by a 6mm stainless bolt.

Hmm, hobbies.

Well, it varies...I'm a bigtime computer geek, like playing pool, drinking, playing WarHeads SE with my bros online, any kind of cooking, I do Photoshop stuff and .GIF animations, drinking, collect misc old computer junk I should prolly bin like my Pioneer DRM-600 6-disc 1X SCSI cd-changer from 1991 thats supposed to be part of a linux media center I havent built yet..., drinking my homemade espressos and coffees (yes I grind my own beans), finding fun tobacco blends for my RYO's, booze, pretty much anything old, electronic or technical is an interest. (I have and use a Superscope A-260 amp)

I love antiques, but can't afford 'em. I'd collect redheads, but I can't afford those either...

In the past I collected insects, coins, stamps, rocks, abandonware games, and vintage clothes. Still love thrift stores and yard sales. :)

Did I mention booze?
