Wild in Las Vegas 2014 (Hardening off and flowers!!)

So now it's time to make another attempt and hope for a better year.

I didn't want to make a glog this year... but I see many already started. That motivates me to make a glog.

2013 was a year for learning and making mistakes and mostly experiments. Needless to say I found and learned a lot and I know this year is gonna rock!

So let's get started with some pics, and I'll update with th list later today and I'll be visiting glogs in a short while ;) and here's to 2014!!!

Thanks for stopping by

If I remember correctly it was around 15 a cubic yard but it is supposed to be crazy good im thinking about going not this saturday but the one after or the next. I think im going to get 3 or so cubic yards im going to try and barter a little bit.

Nice! That's not bad, but I highly doubt I'll be needing that much unless I can take a good 2 cubic yards and dump it at my uncle's house. There's just one thing, something unexpected. A cousin of mine is moving in witha trailer to my uncle's house... that's not the problem tho... she has 7 destructive kids! They don't give a rat's booty about anything and they don't have any education. I'm betting if I set a plot there, most likely they're gonna break my plants or do something. I know them well...

Even the compost, if I leave it there til the time I use it I don't think it'll be there by that time... probably be spread out even, they'll just take it and throw it around. I need to think of something.

Amazing pics Vegas. You got the plants in the dark then a flash? I especially liked the seedling with three coty's.

Nice soil making walkthrough as well. I am going to need to rake out a bunch of big chunks of wood from my plot sometime in the next month or so. Got kale growing now, so gonna let that go, but the time is approaching.

Thanks Maxi! Yup I put them more on the dark and just shoot them with the flash. It's harder to get the hairs under lights.

About the soil, what I think is that the light stuff will help the roots develop faster and resulting in better growth, at least that's what I think. I'm using it for small plants. I think if you're going to use large pots then it's better to have coarse stuff in the mix so the plant can get a better hold of the medium. I don't think a large plant will do good in a light mix.

If I'm wrong please correct me, let's learn together

Yeah it's exactly what you think it is :D.

Fired up Aerogarden number one  .

I sowed:

-Tepin x Lemon drop
-Tepin x 7 Pot Barrackpore
-CAP 1144 (wishing it will germinate)
-Rocopica
-(don't know the name) it's like a peach colored bird pepper.

Pics coming in a bit... stay tuned.

Here I couldn't resist and I sowed 6 rocoto varieties and a "few" more.

New kids on the block ;).

Pink tiger. ( Pimienta de Neyde x Bhut) ( Enrico Lai)

Aribibi gusanito (Chinense - Frutescens?) (ChiliRiot)

CAP 501 - C. Chacoense (Judy)

CGN 20800 - C. Chinense (Judy)

And finally one of the Tepin x Lemon drops that I put in aero cloner is making some nice roots ;).

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend.

Aerogarden is working great, Walt!

And good luck chasing down some great compost!

Hi Walt, your wilds look like they are doing well, I love growing the wild varieties, lately I got stuck on growning the super and ultra hots mainly to build up a good suply of hot pepper powder as I share it with my brother and his son, but I told myself that this year I will get back to growing some of the rare wild ones as I really find them interesting. I have some C. eximium 19198 that I grew last year and a C. praet. along with a C. chacoense that are being over wintered, I got a C. galapagoens seeds from Spicegeist I've tried growing this three times already with out any luck, But I'm sure that this time around they will grow for me.
When I first got sick and had to move I lost most of my rare ones that I had stored in the freezer I was in the hospital and no one knew what they were, so they were dumped by accident, I managed to save some of my seeds, so I'm trying to build up my stock of rare varieties again. I'm going to buy some of Judy's at Pepperlovers and some from the one vendor in spain. I got some Blue mistery seeds coming also, can't remember who shared them with me right off hand many thanks to him.
I'm looking for some other very rare types, but I will most likely end up buying them as I don't have very much true seeds that I can share to get what I would like to have. I found a site wildchilli.eu that was very good and covered a lot about some of the very rare wild varieties.
You sure look like you have a handle on things I will be stopping by now and then to see how you are doing, my grow for 2014 will start next week and will continue through February just on the seeds as it will take me that long to get all my seeds going for next year, I need to get more lights and a new heating mat if I can't build one big enough for what I need.
Take care and have a great year.

Thanks Paul! I just actually just sowed some seeds, but I did make another rig that works really nice and cheap for my needs. Update is up ahead ;).

Aerogarden is the business, but the tool is only as powerful as the technician who wields it. Keep on going strong!
Thanks Maxi! I actually played with mine this last summer and I was really impressed by how it can grow nice seedlings in no time. I'll post a few pics later of what I had going on last summer ;). I just don't know what results I'm gonna get if I use different nutes different than the AG ones. We'll see...

Thanks for stopping by George! Yes sir, I just wanted to grow these since the day I saw them. I'm a big fan of the Tepin and it was my first plant as well and that's how I came to grow peppers. I just have this strong feel for the wilds, I'm just attracted to them.

Charles is simply awesome, it's always nice to talk to him. The galapagoense I have going are from his seed. So if you got seeds from him then looks like you're of to growing some nice galapagoense ;).

Send me your addy and I can send you some extra I still have. Judy gifted me those seeds and I would be very happy to share some with you. It's just sad knowing that you lost most of your seed stock, I know you'll soon recover from that too. You're welcome to stop by whenever you want and if you want to post pics of your plants here you're more than welcome to do so ;).

Looki great Walt! I like your set up and it should be a rockin hot yr for you!
Thanks brother Jon! Let's hope this can be a better year for all of us .
Update time... ok forgive me for being such a liar LOL. Ok, the last pic I took of the Tepin x Lemon drop having nice roots was the last day I had the aero cloner running... I had that slime again... ok not cool. So I had to improvise a lil bit .

Here's what I did, I took an empty coffee container and I cut 4 nice holes for the seedlings I took out of the aero cloner. I'm really impressed with the functionality of something as simple as this as theres many who say it doesn't work... well it does actually.

The galapagoense wasn't developing any new roots and was close to dying (blame the slime), and now about 3 days later I'm starting to see new roots on all of them! Unfortunately the Eximium didn't make it... so I replaced it with the Tepin x 7 Pot Barrackpore and all are doing great and showing new roots pics...

The rig.

Root development. I know it's a little too soon to see any significant changes, but we will in the next few days ;).

Tepin x 7 Pot liked the setup and I can see new roots already

I also took the time to transplant a few that already have a pair of true leaves.

Rear left to right is CGN 24360 and to the right is Aribibi gusano.

The two front ones are CGN 20800.

Nice new growth on CGN 24332 (Eximium)

And last but not least is the galapagoense :D.

Thanks for stopping by.

Looking good Walt, that cloner is doing a great job for being a DIY unit...
Thanks everyone!!!

Ok, I been quite busy and haven't had time to update...
What's an update without pics LOL.

Ok first off I want to mention I'm ditching my T5's because ever since I brought them all my plants seem to lag big time under that light. So I'm going with LEDs and I'm staying with LEDs, said and should be done by this weekend.

Why? Because since I put my plants under a small LED panel I made I can notice growth every single day and even my wilds had a "change of heart". That said now it's on to the pics of progress still slow but steady :D.

Chacoense family:

Top row: All CAP 501
Second row left to right: CGN 21509, CGN 21510, Cobincho.
Bottom: CAP 501 x Donne sali F1

Some wilds.

Galapagoense (Spicegeist). Leaves were curling upwards under the T5 and now more flat under the LEDs.

Looks like it wants to branch out ;).

CGN 24332 - C. Eximium (Judy). All I can say is " beautiful".

Nicely branching out ;) .

Cumari pollux (Spicegeist). Notice the three last leaves grew out in less than a week under LED. No noticeable growth under the T5.

Pubes in the aerogarden :D. It's a red rocoto from the store. They say they grow slow... we'll see ;) .

I need a bump, I got some root porn for Portuge LOL.
