Wild in Las Vegas 2014 (Hardening off and flowers!!)

So now it's time to make another attempt and hope for a better year.

I didn't want to make a glog this year... but I see many already started. That motivates me to make a glog.

2013 was a year for learning and making mistakes and mostly experiments. Needless to say I found and learned a lot and I know this year is gonna rock!

So let's get started with some pics, and I'll update with th list later today and I'll be visiting glogs in a short while ;) and here's to 2014!!!

Wilds are tricky because different lighting, temp, nutes, etc cause flowers to change coloring and sometime shape

Yup, I've noticed that. My pollux is the only other one that wants to flower. I should of started them earlier... oh well.

That is CGN19198. First pic tripped me up,looked like cardenasii. The teeth on the calyx should get very long and the berries will be significantly larger than other eximium. The color will vary a lot.

Good work!

Thanks John! I thought the same. The flowers do open a bit more but not all the way and some seem to have more color than others. Wilds are fun :D. Hope to see pods soon  .

Time for a small update. I'm surely lagging there... to much stuff in the way and seems like I just can be here as much except on the weekends or when I'm off.

Ok...

Most of my plants are now outside. The sun isn't too intense and I just put outside and of course I watched them to see if they stress too much under the morning sun, but not much so I just take them out and leave them there until 3-4pm when I wake up.

I'm gonna start having problems with thieves... I had them outside and by the time I woke up to check on them I found one missing. It was one I'm very anxious to watch it pod up the tepin x lemon drop... I enjoyed the pods so much I wanted to help stabilize by growing 3 plants and now I'm down to 2... oh well. Let's see what happens otherwise I'm forced to grow indoors or my balcony which sun exposure is very poor...

Ok here's a few pics of the progress.

My aerogarden experiment is coming out nice, but I'm having trouble with reservoir temps. Temps get from 80º-90ºF. I'm gonna have to isolate some way.

Top left to right: Malagueta (Coki) , Cumari Verdaidera (Portuge).

Bottom from left to right: Galapagoense (Spicegeist), CGN 22795 (Semillas), CGN 22795(Semillas), Cumari Verdaidera (Portuge).

Cumari pollux (Spicegeist)

Texas black (first flower).

Tepin X Lemon drop F2. Looks like it enjoys the sun, it's 1/2 since one got stolen...

Tepin X Lemon drop F2 (first pod), looking like it has 3 lobes. It's getting bigger and hope it ripens soon so I can start F3 Lol.

Nice to have some friendly visitors, I'm getting lacewigs indoors and on my balcony. I also had them last year, I've seen some larvae hanging around too, but I never had aphids, maybe they help prenvent??

And here's how a few of my plants look outside ;). I don't have as much as I did last year but this year I definitely feel good and looks less stressing. This is only one part, I'll shoot the rest later today and I have a few more pics to show.

:fireball: Hope y'all have an excellent week!! :fireball:

Hey Walt, everything is looking great. I can't believe the size of the two Cumari you have going... The one i got is not even close to where yours are... Grow lil guy grow

Thanks Portuge! Some say I'm cheating LOL. The Aerogarden make them grow faster and this one is like a DWC style. Or if you mean the pollux, those I started late November.

*******************************

Here's a few more shots.

Here's the whole gang on the balcony.

A few more indoors and the Eximium that's flowering.

Another flower shot of CGN 19198. Unfortunately I'm experiencing flower drop... I guess I'm gonna pot it up to a 1 or 2 galon pot.

Cumari pollux, stretching now that it's getting some morning sun.

Tepin X 7 pot barrackpore F2. Dropping flowers so I just pot it up and threw it outside.

I also wanted to give maters a try. Yellow pear in a topsy turvy. (Turvy was a gift last year LOL)

And here... ok I don't trust myself with soil. It's my kryptonite so I just went ahead and got me one of these. Not like if I'm gonna use heaps of soil anyway.

Thanks for stopping by :fireball:

Yea I was talking about the ones i sent you, they look alot better off than the one i have... Let me get a pic on here and you can see how small that thing is...
Ok Walt here's the Cumari Verdadeira I have growing right now...
253e98fb-c3cf-484e-81ff-2ae57471a872_zpsf9c2c235.jpg

Looking freaking great! You're really going to like that Happy Frog...pretty good stuff. If you got lacewings hanging around...you probably have some sort of critters that they're taking care of for you. They won't generally lay eggs unless there is a food source for their little ones. Could be mites or aphids...or maybe something else even more sinister!

Wow, but still it looks very nice and green.

Mine is in an Aerogarden so it's cheating LOL.

I was having an issue with the freakin air stone in the aerogarden and messed up some roots and foliage started to show some dry spots like burns. Since it's my first time using aftermarket nute in the aerogarden I had no clue my PH was high... (6.4-6.8), so I talked with a buddy of mine from Finland (wilds expert and hydro guru). I told him about my issues and he nailed it. Now my plants are looking better after I changed the water and lowered the PH.

I pinched the bad leaves off the cumari verdaidera and it looks ugly LOL, but beautiful foliage is coming in. The stem is pretty thick for it's size too. I'll post pics in the morning.

Thanks Shane!! Idk how or why they hang around. They just do and that's cool. I haven't seen aphids in about a year.

Last year I only had one plant get aphids and I squished the hell out of them and while I was cleaning that plant I saw many strings with eggs attached. That's when I did a bit of research and found out they were lacewing eggs. Since then I never seen a single aphid. Not even on a OW tepin I brought in.

It really feels good to have them around, and I'm glad they like my plants and my pad.

It's been about a week since I potted up a few with happy frog and I gotta say I'm impressed with the results so far and I haven't seen any seedlings burnt by the soil. And you can't beat a lil bit extra soil for the same buck ;).

***************************

Now time for a small update.

Things are still running... but not as much.

The weather is slowly warming up. The last few days there's been some pretty strong gusts and temps dropping down to the mid 40's. All my plants are outside and it doesn't seem to affect them.

Tepin X 7 pot is one super nice plant! One of my strongest and hardy. Despite the temps dropping it's still pumping out buds and opening flowers, but it's dropping some. I think the weather is still too cold, but I bet when the right temps kick in it's gona get crazy loaded. The flowers have this creamy tone too.

Left: CAP 501 x Donne sali F1.
Right: Cumari pollux. (Both from Charles)

Cumari do Para. Really???

Texas black, flowering.

Back: Tepin X 7 pot.
Front: PI 593491 (Both Tepin)

Aribibi gusano, slower than a turtle but still growing...

If anyone wants to join the wilds group on Facebook PM me for details. There's lots of cool people from all over the world growing wilds.

-Walt

Here's a few more. Aerogarden ladies ;).

I swear I never knew PH had to be different than soil LOL. I have a friend from Finland who has a lot of experience in hydro and he's been helping me sort out my issues.

Difference in 3 days when I dropped the PH to 5.8. No kidding!!

Before. (Both are CGN 22795 the only white flower Praetermissum)

After.

Cobincho also getting big fast.

Cumari pollux making buds already :onfire:

Portuge this is the damage that the cumari verdaidera suffered when the air stone crapped out and the PH wasn't right (notice the chlorosis).

Pinched off...

Hope y'all have an awesome weekend! :fireball:

-Walt

Wow Walt! Plants are looking great! Good to hear they're thriving in the nightly 40°'s... I need to get my guys outside next weekend. Sadly they have a freeze forecast for Wednesday. Yuck.

Sorry for the gnarly aero growth. It happens. Just snip and the plant bounces back stronger than ever!

Keep on growin'.

Very nice Walt!

You simply nailed it this year!

Keep doing what your doing!
Thanks Scott!! I now have the feel for my weather. I been getting temps close from 39º-47ºF at night and some are still developing buds and one is flowering like there's no tomorrow LOL.

I have many that are small... that's no biggie tho, I'll just "OverSummer" them and take them back out when the temps cool down and that should do. I'm taking the gamble, but that's how we learn. Sometimes we just have to roll the dice and hope for the best  .

Thanks Adam! This weather thing is new to me. Last year I waited too long and around this time I thought it was too cold for them. This time I just lost fear and just did it, I took them outside and they just love it ;). I'm getting closer to finding my sweet spot. I'm very happy to see how things are turning out this year.

Gotta hand it to ya Walt, you got some growth going on over there... As for the Cumari V, glad to see it boucing back...
Thanks Portuge! Like I said I had PH way way off. Now that it's taken care off it's growing again faster and with cleaner foliage. Pics to follow.

About the growth, it's barely picking up, the plants are adapting to the elements and weather is warming up.

I'm the envious one LOL, you have some very sexy ladies, especially that CAP 501 x Bhut F2. I love the way it turned out and can't wait to see it full of pods.

Charles makes some very nice crosses. I hope he keeps breeding, and I hope to help growing them out.

Update time....

Ok, I'm slow... I thought I posted a pic of the galapagoense... LOL. Well today is one month since it came out of the seed, and seriously this one is on steroids :D.

About 10 inches tall.

Branching out. (Now we're serious... :D)

Cumari Verdaidera, (Portuge and seeds from Prodigal_Son)

#1

#2

Wilds in the Aerogarden, I had to switch them to this one due to some inconvenience. (Bubble stone issues...)

From the back, left to right.

1. Covincho (C. Chacoense)
2 and 3. CGN 22795 (C. Praetermissum)
4. Galapagoense.

Front, left to right.

1. Cumari Verdaidera (C. Praetermissum)
2. I can't tell you. :D
3. Cumari Verdaidera (C. Praetermissum).

Ok... something I been waiting for...

At first I hesitated to take this one out because I wanted to make sure I get some seed from it before I mess it up outside LOL. I sometimes tend to mess things up, but let's say this time I'm lucky :D.

First pods look very firm on the plant and not falling like they were when I had it indoors. I potted up to a 5 gallon root pouch with some happy frog soil and some Espoma Tomato Tone as recommended on the package but I slipped in a lil bit more lol. The only thing I give it is compost tea, no water. If I don't have tea ok, I give it some water otherwise it gets undiluted dose of tea.

I'm putting my money on this LOL. Thanks again to Charles for the seed.

Tepin X 7 pot F2.

Spring is here and now it's game on!! :onfire: :onfire: :onfire:

Thats one smexy looking pod on that tepin x 7pot...

Ok Walt here's something to get you thinking about next year... F3's should be interesting...

So Stoaked about your Sonoran tepin x 7pot pod, just that much closer to F3's

Wow!! All those look awesome! I'd definitely grow those out next year.

I just can't stop looking at that CAP 501 x Bhut F2. That is one sexy plant. The CAP 501 x Donne sali F1 is looking a lot better since I took it outside. I'll snap a few pics when I get home. I'm also thinking of potting up so it can grow even more, right now it's in a solo cup.

I'm also excited to see how your tepin x 7 pot will turn out. Temps here are fluctuating too much and we're getting windy and chilly days. Temps might be something but the wind is cold as heck so I'm suffering some flower drop but some are still holding ;). I expect to see more action within the next couple of weeks.

yup the wind is wrecking my plants too

Walt, all your plants look GREAT!. Good luck with hardening off and getting those babies into their permanent homes. I am at least 3 weeks away from getting mine out. Are you going to be using containers or putting them in the ground?

Cheers,
Rom

Had a good rainfall last night, when i had posted the pics earlier in the day. The rain had stopped and was starting to clear up some... So lets see some magic out of my plants now... Grow baby grow
