I only used half the seeds you gave me. I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket. At first I had my seeds up on top of my shelf, close to the ceiling to get the warmer air. temp was about 25C/77F. But by Tuesday it became clear that the temp had dropped to 20C/68F, which is too low for germination (in my un-expert opinion). I moved the seeds on top of my foxtel box, I don't know the exact temp their at but I don't see it being over 30C/86F. Problem is some parts are warmer then others and the choc bhuts may have been on a colder area, I know the TS's were on a warm spot so will the choc bhuts there.

Thanks for the seeds Gas, you have been a great help. :D I don't think I will be doing more seeds this season This was in part a test for next season, and still is. All I have to do is get them to grow now.
No worries, mate! Happy to share when I can. :)

Yeah, dunno what the temp required for germination is but I do know that 28-30C should give you the quickest results. That being said, anything below but still above the required temp should still work but will probably just take longer is all.

I haven't had any problems with eco-oil but I've only used it a few times. I try to keep away from using chemicals and hope the natural bugs get in there and do their thing. When I see the odd aphid it is always taken care of by other bugs. I do live across the road from a large area of bushland so that might help.
The biggest threat to my chillies is apparently me! Out of 28 buckets I am going to toss over half of them because they have stalled and are slowly dying. There are plenty of better chillies doing better in tiny pots and need a pot up. Need to get a soil mix right this time.

I moved the crappy ones together towards the camera.

I'm heading off to bunnings tomorrow to pick up a few supplies, will take a look and see if they have any there. will do some research on it before i buy though, my little puppy somehow manages to get into everything.

Do you guys have diatomaceous earth over there? That stuff is pretty crazy and safe for humans and pets. Only thing is you need to keep it dry in order for it to work. Might want to read up on it. Over here they sell ortho liquid for ants. Comes in little containers that you twist open maybe 1/8". Ants gets in and carry it back to the colony. Too small for your pup to get his snoot in.

LOL, I'm the same, ruined too many plants myself. The ones I potted up into buckets I haven't ever watered, even though we've had those hot days. They're shaded under a tree and it's been two weeks now without water for them.
Probably not going to grow fast in the shade, but they're looking healthy at least, and I'm not going to do anything to stuff them up, waiting until signs of wilting, hasn't happened yet and the soil is still moist under the mulch.

See this one in the green bucket in the foreground, small and slightly yellow?

Where is he now two weeks later?

Must have done something right with my mix (and leaving them alone!)

Megamoo I was wondering if the size of your plants compared to the size of the bucket is an issue? I plan to go from a seedling tray, to a 10cm pot, then a 30cm pot. I can't talk from my own experience but I did read about it Silver Surfer 's grow list/log.

Sun has decided to make an appearance this afternoon, so I put my plants somewhere, where they will get some sun.

Still waiting for this pod to ripen...... getting impatient. Anyone know if yelling at your plants help with this problem?

Looks like some of your planties are finally coming along, moo!
Thank god some are doing alright!

I haven't read about it but from my observations I have suspected that could be a problem. I think the issue might have something to do with the amount of water that sits in the soil where no roots have grown through to take it up. Oxygen can't get in because of the old water. Just an idea. I do seem to have a lot of healthy plants in smaller pots vs larger ones.

Just bought 100L of perlite to give the new soil mix really good drainage. I have plenty of plants in small pots ready to put into the buckets, and hopefully they have large root balls and the buckets won't be too big for them.

Don't mind the basil plants down the front. They got baked one day and haven't recovered.

If it did, my plants would all be monsters producing tonnes of pods that ripened overnight! Although, I've now taken to pep talks to see if that makes a difference......

If I recall correctly, I think I read something similar. Stagnant bottom-of-the-pot sludge water = not good for plants. Makes sense, I guess!

Some plants produce flowers that are on pendant pedicels and thus face down when open. Is there any reason you expected otherwise?

Hi Harry, I would expect otherwise because I'm a complete noob at Gardening. Just seemed to me flowers growing upwards would be an advantage for flying insects etc.

I also found it isn't great for spilling all over your feet while moving your pots.

They do both. Tabascos and the tiny ball ones point up, other larger ones hang down, obviously cos of the weight of the pod. My chilli plants with upright flowers look like they are all jammed together and have no room to move.

I seem to remember that my Aji Lemon from last season had hanging pods but the same overwintered plant is doing its best to produce upright chillies. I say its doing its best because the larger ones are bending down. odd

FINALLY found some of this stuff (without having to order and pay P&H)....

And a random show off shot to boost my spirits. So bummed about my plants that aren't doing well....

And now I'm off to do a mass, full-coverage spraying for broad mite at my alternate growing location. Kinda don't want to as I don't want to :censored: up the good insects but there is so much weeding to be done that I figure the best course of action is to spray and kill off what I can, weed in a couple days, then I'm gonna buy a crap-load of predator mites and release them in every corner, nook and cranny of the yard. Muhahahaha! :hell:

The Tabasco I grew produced flowers on upright pedicels that were downward facing as per the description of Capsicum Frutescens flowers that I've seen. Some pods start at a right angle right after fruit set and move to a vertical upright position as they grow such as those on my Inca Red Drop.

My Aji Amarillo plants produced pods that began developing as the Inca Red Drop pods. At some point the weight of the pod resulted in their transition to being pendant.

Where did you find the worm Juice Gas??

Yes and how much was it? I remember seeing on ebay someone in queensland selling it for like 12 bux for two litres.

I made a kick ass 200 litre worm farm the other day, can't wait to get the puppy cranking!

Good Concepts in West End.

$25 for 5 litres. Dilution is only 20:1 though. (That does mean 20 parts water 1 part worm juice, right? Shouldn't it be written the other way around; 1:20?)

Yeah, 100mls to 2 litres. It's normally used at 1-10.
Yeah, on their website they say 1:10 but on the actual bottle it says 1:20. As less economical as it is, might go with 1:10 for maximum benefit.

Also looking at their site, it appears I can score 20L of the stuff for $55 pick-up. $25 for 5L (bought locally) or $55 for 20L (trip up the Sunny Coast--something I do anyway from time to time)..... Not a hard one to figure out!

Come to think of it too, how often should I be using this stuff to achieve maximum benefit?
