Wiri's 2020 Vision of Wild(s)

Well it's about time to step up at home plate & present my Wild line-up card. Many players
added will  shore up my batting line-up courtesy of CD, hopefully  hit  a few dingers,go
yard ,clear the bases and  in the end have a # of  web gems to show off.So let the games begin.

Many are proven big leaguers so that should put me ahead of the count, right! And I promise to
play clean, without cheating absolutely no (base) stealing...no, not gonna do it ;) ,speaking of;the
Astros cheating scandal grows with each passing week. enjoying the humiliation thou'.
Another shoe is about to drop on a nearby team...can't wait for Spring Training to begin.

Much thanks Scott...the situation with CV is slowly improving in & around the Eastern Seaboard..NYC has been hard hit,as you see on TV,
of course d/t the geography ie proximity etc....hard to stop the spread...am  surprised that NJ had/has so many cases..people are restless,
with each passing day.and I thoroughly understand that & I get it.What is so horrible is the protestors some no masks, but otherwise in full
regalia, armed to the T...C. Flags etc. in tow standing so close to others...of course when/if they/or family get sick  they expect to be cared
for by some of the SAME people they are disrespecting ...heck with those..why should caregivers risk their lives over IDIOTS!!
Just my 3 Cents. :shh:
I totally agree. Spoke to Mom today, she's in the Myrtle Beach-Murrells Inlet area, right off the ocean (hiding). She says the beaches are loaded, my brother lives close by and told her the bars along beach front areas are packed.
Ever read about the Darwin Awards? I feel we have new candidates..

Stay safe! I truly hope this ends soon...

Didn't take any pepper photos recently..weather here this past wk has been a  Weatherman's dream  & for us awful.
but, there's always a but on the "bright" side we didn't lose power..winds over 55 MPH.&the ole " I'm still standing" GH
intact. Then yesterday we had snow not much on our end but some had 6 inches,& most towns had tucked away their
winter gear...they haven't figured out NE weather yet...so a bit of this that & the other + CV newest drug from Gilead Sc.
is promising if used early ..so there's one to"buy on spec"$$$..speaking of buying here's my 2 $$Money Tree plants. ;)
yf5fW25.jpg

The Money Tree Plant, also known as Pachira aquatica, is a tree that grows in the swamps of Central and South America. It can grow up to 60 ft in the wild. However, it is also a popular choice as an indoor or bonsai tree because it is easy to maintain and regulate its growth. It is a very durable plant,so it can grow in many different conditions, but the right amount of water, feeding, and light will help it grow to its full capacity.
The legend which gave this plant its name says that the money tree plant will bring great wealth to its owner, and the trunks are usually braided together to "lock in" luck and fortune. Once the trunks have been braided, they will continue to grow this way, but it occasionally might need some trimming to keep it all in place. However, if you want your plant to develop fully, choose one with
nxmwoTA.jpg
unplaited stems.
Although this plant comes from the Americas, it is currently most popular in Taiwan. Feng shui practitioners believe that the Pachira aquatica creates "chi," positive energy that brings luck in homes, and they commonly decorate it with different ornaments to improve this ability.
wiriwiri, i started a thread a couple of weeks ago about problems with a money tree. please take a look at the pics and tell me what you think.  http://thehotpepper.com/topic/73523-money-tree-not-doing-so-good-anybody-know-what-the-problem-is/?hl=%2Bmoney+%2Btree

thanks for any help!

Re: DA..We do have a vast gene pool to pick from & it increases each minute! ;)

People are so cooped up I don't see this ending good at all..nice weather & being told to stay put, ain't gonna work.
The domino effects are just beginning...imagine being a landlord/tenant ..laid off..it's enough to drive people mad, just makes
us count our blessings.

Glad Mom has your brother nearby...she's in a great area..maybe a few plants to keep her occupied.

Have you heard of/visited Caldwell Nursery in Rosenburg Tx?..I know it's a big State so that may be way out of your area.
They have great tropical plants ..many unusual/hard to get,& the prices are dirt cheap.Too bad they don't ship..a 2 gal Piper Nigrum or
Black pepper Plant for 15 bucks....among many others...seems like a nice place to spend time,of course with CV our shopping
habits are curtailed.

My best to you & the family...stay well/safe!

Well I do have some photos to add to my glog...so without further ado here we go.

My favorite Wild aka C. Galapagoense  has been doing quite nicely ...ie all 4...here's my recipe,YMMV. :eh:
3 are from germinated seeds on 3/20 and they are on a roll despite their delicate age ,the other is from last yr & has
reinvented itself into a rather good looking specimen IMO from one that was "should I stay or should I go"...
I'm actually doing some trials hopefully with no/few resulting errors ..it's a learning curve.Photos shot outside.
They are appropriately practicing self-isolation..orchid bloom fertilizer,a bit of Ca+ & a tad of other nutes...& most
important lighter soil..as the roots are very thin...under lights away from  bugs...so far so good..Some of the newly emerged flowers etc. are hidden d/t the fullness of the plants..but I'm optimistic I'll be able to
get more than a few isolated seeds...we'll see.

Cumari Flibu..as with most others outside just getting started...the usual weather issues..which we're all
dealing with or have dealt with in some way or another lately...certainly hasn't missed us here.

Tovarii...seed took 49 days to germinate & that's good as sibling took 72 & not photogenic just yet.

jlkAFkl.jpg

With the rain we've had followed by 2 sunny days I expect to see my plants stretch a bit over the next few days.
Most seem to be just about to start/or increase  flowering but the Asiatic Beetle has made it;s presence known...so I'll just
have to repeat the yrly ritual of diam earth powder..as they have been chomping on some of my plants..they're terrible,I dread
their yrly return....

This is  Blue Mystery... as with most of the Wilds I'm growing a big Thanks to CD for the seeds he shared.

Wiri Wiri...still small but with a few pods.... use these a lot in my cooking so I have quite a few plants in progress.

Hey Wiri!  Things are looking great.  Your Galapagoense look super happy and the Tovarii seems off to a fast start - since sprouting, anyway.

I'm impressed with ripening berries on the little wiri wiri.  The ones I'm growing - thank you :) - did not like the cool early season, but they're kicking it into gear now and the biggest one is flowering nicely.  Do you expect you'll still get strong production from the one above despite it currently being on the small side?

Curry in a Hurry...Murraya koenigii..

from 3 seeds I got 4 plants..(twin)...just like you wish your investment portfolio would perform. :D
Seeds from 9/19  plants did well indoors no shedding ...just keep them near the windows & the ViT D "a la natural" did them well..
.they like acid ..so I just put coffee grounds & new pots/cactus soil to boot & once they've
been out for a few weeks some acidy fertilizer & them just watch them grow....
9MTyqd0.jpg

An accompanying herb to your Murraya Koenegi in your T'dadian curry  is the Culantro...I just put these seeds & in a NY minute they sprouted.
Culantro goes by many names... I've noticed that hardly a Trinidadian dish goes by without culantro....some of the best food eva...try it sometime.
Plant should be grown in shade...if not it goes to seed real fast....faster than a NY second.
These need to be in bigger containers as you can see...not many shady spots around??

Hi CD...Thanks for the kind words...I'm trying here given all that's going on etc...but it's a good outlet for stress,& I've seem a lot of that since 3/20.
Oui oui, will get big plants with more WW than I need..I have  quite a few. seedlings..but warm weather acoming...wait,..it;s here..don't worry they grow fast. ;)

BTW...I ran outa luck with my Lance 26 C iso..2 germinated & then bam, bye, same with the Eximium not Buf...can't win always,
but I tried... :(

Oh,speaking ill of plants,One plant that gives me a hard time is the Flexi,...I had bad luck with the 2 OW from you...and I planted seeds
and only 1 plant is growing..duh...not taking it too personal...it's the NE clime I'd put the blame on..and that plant is supposedly so cold
tolerant or so I heard...no rhyme or reason to some things..so I'll let it go,but I had to tell you...just keeping it honest. :shh:

How cool - you're the second glog to show curry leaf plants! Where did you get the seeds? I've been searching all over.

I lived in Trinidad for a few years. They call culantro "shado beni" - we tried to use it but I guess being used to cilantro, it never really hit the spot with us.

the seeds were a gift..,out of the blues I received an envelope with 3 seeds last Sept from  a  real nice person..was so pleasantly surprised that
he remembered & sent me seeds...I planted them pronto * in about 10 days I had 4 plants...nice.

Culantro has a  stronger taste than cilantro and I use only a wee bit ...it's quite popular in Spanish cuisine ..recao.
Visited Trinidad a while back...I love the food * their accent is so special...met a lot of them in NYC...friendly folks.

Really enjoyed your update, Sandy. Great to
see your wilds looking so good. We've had
really iffy weather, too. Even now, its only
partly to mostly cloudy. No real long stretches
of sunny days. At least it's not raining!

Really hoping for my Wiri-Wiri to flower and get
some pods like your pic above. Your grow is an
inspiration! Seeds are the iso ones from CD,
so I have high hopes!

Thanks for stopping by Paul...We have time & with the warmer weather I am sending your way :P  you should get lots of wiris,if not
I will send you some as I have a handful of plants that should gear up with the heat...no problem.
It's in the mid to low 80's here & that is fine can't tolerate 90 & over...Good Lord I can't live anywhere where it's that hot..Give me
my seasons...and  we have been having milder winters...of late..climate change yes,I'm a FIRM believer in all things Science etc.
We have much to look forward to,you know what I  mean. :shh: ...I'm getting ahead of myself.
