Wrightdaddy's 2012 grow log

I've been reading everyones grow log figured i should start my own. I have already started a few different kinds starting the others tomorrow. I soak my seeds over night in plain water then i plant them in 4in pots 4 kinds per pot 2 seeds each then I transplant them into there own 4in pot when they show second set of true leaves. For lighting i use a double four foot light fixture with 2 daylight bulbs 80 watts. at about 6in they get transplanted into a one gallon pot then they get put under two four foot light strips with three daylight bulbs and one grow bulb. they reside there till they go outside i know its a little low on lighting but its just to get a head start before they go outside once out side they go into 3 or 5 gall on pots depending on size of plant. for soil i mix roughly 1/2 compost 1/4 peat 1/8 perilite 1/8 vermiculite. ill post pics later just have a couple sprouts now.

Wow, those potted up plants look great, Wrightdaddy!
They should really dig that great Arizona sun! You mentioned
you will put your rocoto into 15 a gallon pot; How big will the
rocoto get?

I'm not sure this is my first year growing it but I will post pics as it grows we will see.

I have an orange rocoto going, and am trying to figure what size pot to put it in.
Well, and for my other varieties, too. I have grown in 7 gallon containers, mostly,
but do have a few larger ones, several 10-12 gallon, and a couple of 18's. Not that I'm
anywhere near potting up!

From what I've seen the rocotos can get pretty big and don't always produce there first season. That's why I put mine in a 15 gallon.

Well I might have jumped the gun a bit on potting them up and putting them outside 2 days after I potted them up the weather hit a low of mid 30s there still kickin but i can tell they are not happy about it. Live and learn I now know better for next season.

They willl be tougher for it....real world "bhut camp"! The transplants outta start screamin' after they "recover" from the temp/transplant.Mine SHOULD be getting the container treatment today.....got a cousin gonna swing by the house thats gonna help out.Funny how out in the yard-the wife's stuff is "OUR" landscape....but the peppers are "only" mine hehehe.I'm out on the boat so-
I'll be nervous all day til I get the out come.

the big jim enjoying his 15 gallon home.

Hey Chuck,
Your plants are looking good especially the Hot Hatch, I'm moving my Hatches into 3" pots tomorrow.
15 gal containers, man those plants will produce well with all that root space. My overwinters are going into 9 gal pots, But 15 would do them justice!

Greg

Your plants look really good. I wish my plants looked as good as yours. I can't wait to see how you Rocoto and Big Jim turn out.
