I'm not talking about quality..

I'm more talking about wanting to give your left nut for something..

Quality is still an issue with American cars IMO. I agree with Proud Marine Dad that American cars are better than ever but we are still just playing catch up to the Germans and Japanese. I work at a bodyshop and handle parts for all makes and models. Structurally German cars are superior, mechanically the Japanese lead the way and America seems to only be focused on styling gas guzzlers. What really grinds my gears is seeing cars in other countries that get way better gas mileage and we can't have them because they won't pass "safety standards and emissions" which I think is a bunch of BS. Look out for that new F150 thats gonna have an aluminium chassis that will give us a couple miles better mpg but you gotta put premium gas and its gonna cost twice as much. Seriously! We need more diesel options!

I agree, it's the same with Aussie cars.

I own a 1970 Datsun 1600 (P510). Compared to Australian cars of the same era the Datsun was way ahead of its time. It has things like Alloy head, OHC, independent rear suspension and bucket seats to name a few. Fast forward and the Nissan GTR of today is a mechanical marvel.

I don't wish to drive that.
Nothing wrong with muscle cars as long as you get free fuel, free tyres, don't need to make curves or hit something..

And they are not that worse for the enviroment than a prius (considering the lack of plastics, lithium etc)

It's very common for European folks to get excited about new Mustangs etc. I remember a few years ago when the Mustang was redesigned, that Germans were paying like $55-60k for the convertible version ...

If I want speed, I'm getting on a motorcycle ...

If I want to drive quickly in general, I want a small car with AWD and great brakes ...

If I want comfort, I'm getting into a Lincoln or Cadilac (in my range of affordability) ...

I drive a chipped 2004 VW GTi 1.8t ... it's basically just a chip and improved diverter valve to handle the extra boost (which I believe, just put the US edition such that it runs as configured for Germans) ... in the end, it's more torque, and a little more HP for the same gasoline consumption as the stock setting ... so, you are wondering I'm a sure, why would they cripple the car for US market ... fucking insurance ... if the car had those extra 15 HP or whatever, it wouldn't be able to be insured as cheaply, and so, we get a crippled version (unless you pay $500 to take care of it aftermarket) ...

Ugh, and that ... really grinds my gears ...

Haha.. Same goes for diesels, many european manufacturers make a certain sized engine, for example a 2.0 liter.. You can buy the 90hp version, the 110hp (+2500) version or the 130hp (+6000) version.. Same engine, different motor management software..

But If you put the 130hp chip in a 90/110 you lose all warranty because "the engine is not made for such torque"..

It doesn't "really grind my gears", but acute narcissistic posters are somewhat annoying...  And kinda funny... And kinda sad...

There are some that will ONLY post in their own threads/blogs for their own self praise/bragging, as well as (and probably most importantly) praise from others, but ignore everything and everyone else on the entire site.

Literally.

It has nothing to do with a community. It's 100% about them. It's not just this forum, but every forum I have ever been a part of.

I hope I don't offend anyone by this post, but I sincerely doubt I will because anyone offended by this post would not have read it.

Another thing that grinds my gears: People who take everything I say & do the wrong way and/or read far too much into these things

I can't tell you the number of times I did something nice for someone, and they immediately thought I had an agenda, some ulterior motive, when I just try to be a nice person like my grandpa taught me to be...

So do people from other countries that think they know what's best for this country, and preach on and on about it.
Yeah, when I was a kid I used to do yard work for extra money. I had one customer who payed good but would stand behind me all day long just talking away about things I didn't give a rats ass about. I needed money so kept nodding and injecting a "yup" now and again to keep him happy. He was Canadian and almost every sentence began with "In my country....." or "You Americans don't...." or some other crappy line to make himself feel superior over a 12 year old kid. Definite Gear Grinder there.

I'm Canadian (by birth) and Polish (by nationality), and I tend to avoid doing such things... violates my personal rule about giving unsolicited advice (read: don't give advice I was never asked for)

I disagree. Our Fusion gets 34 mpg.

I think PMD is right ... I'll be looking hard at the Ford line up for the very first time in my life, for the next vehicle purchase.

I'll probably get an Edge of whatever the cross-over is called ...

I drive a 2010 ford focus and it gets 32mpg supposedly, thats good and all but overseas cars been getting that kind of mpg for decades . At 62k miles my focus feels like it has 150k compared to my 2008 Tacoma that has 80k and drives like its new. There is an obvious quality difference. My buddy who has a 2010 Ford Fusion is having all sorts of problems with his car right now with 120k, he actually regrets buying the car. I think Fords get better every year and I hope you don't have any problems with yours PMD but like I stated in the post above we are not ahead of the game.

Ours is a 2013 Titanium. The Focus is a budget car so I wouldn't really compare it as its more in the class with the less expensive imports like Hyundai and so forth.
I also have a 2001 Civic EX that has been the worst car I have had in years. Dumping $3200 to overhaul the transmission is no fun. This was the worst car Honda has made in recent years. Now my 1998 F-150 gas been roxk solid and still runs great. Had very few problems with it.

I think the Ford Fusion Titanium is the nicest car in its class.
