off-topic You know what really grinds my gears?!?

Or standing in the hot sun with a cardboard sign and two poor panting dogs on a leash. If you can't take care of yourself, why the f**k do you have dogs? So people feel bad and give you money? I want to slap the shit out of them and take their dogs.

I seen that many times and I only feel sorry for the dogs. Recently I seen some con artist standing outside of my church with their children begging for money. Everybody was falling for it but me because I seen them earlier in the week 30 miles away begging at another church. I felt like calling CPS on them and have regrets not doing so, I just pray that those kids are ok and wont follow in the footsteps of their scumbag parents.

There's some Gypsies that turn this very thing (playing on peoples' emotions) into an industry in Europe. I recall a news report in Poland, for example, where the patriarch of a Gypsy family died of a heart attack, and authorites went into his rundown apartment, where they discovered a cache of money equivalent to 2 million dollars with the exchange rate at the time. Given his and his family's rundown, poor look, and the state of the apartment, as well as how they lived, no one would have guessed they had that much money.

And I remember something eerily similar to what you described when I was living with my grandparents there. As we were leaving a church, literally 5 feet from the front door of the church, a Gypsy woman with a small daughter in her arms fell to her knees, put on the waterworks, and began wailing and begging for money. Virtually everyone there was wise to the ploy and simply ignored her, and two days later, I saw the same woman and child in the Old Town Square (their equivalent of downtown where all the tourists went), and doing the exact same thing. As with the church two days earlier, most of the residents ignored it, but they were bringing in money hand over fist with the tourists.

I tend to give $ to homeless people who aren't asking, and snub the one's who do.

Panhandlers often make over $100 spending an afternoon "working" here.

Unfortunately, they typically use it to buy meth or crack or alcohol, not food or shelter ...

Danielle made me watch a documentary w/ her on Netflix a while back, though, that I think casts a little bit of a different light on the problem ...

TL;DW - We closed down a ton of facilities for mentally ill patients during the Reagan years and turned them onto the street ...

Yep, here it's bad with gipsies as well. They tend to be picked up with brand new Mercedes Sprinter/Vito vans or luxury cars.. I've visited the poor and rural areas of Romania as well.. they have complete villas over there in trendy colors like fluor yellow, bright orange, pink, poison green etc..

If you want to help homeless people, do some charity for shelters (does not have to be money). It will be of more use than supplying money directly to addicts (ok, not all will use it for drugs or booze.. but there's quite a chance that they will). Shelters don't Always need money or volunteers but can need quite some work that they can't afford (i.e. as a electrician you can help them, as a cook you can help them, as an accountant you can help them etc). Your effort would be much better spent..

Btw.. something that just started grinding my gears;

People that offer SUPER varieties that are near damn impossible to get your hands on in an SASBE offer.. People will receive self addressed, stamped bubble envelopes, i.e. full postage is already paid.. but they refuse to send overseas. Just to let you guys know, as a European you can just buy USPS Global Forever® stamps online (international postage) and send your envelope pre-to the sender in the US.. So I'm not sure why that would be an issue. Customs? Nah.. they won't cause an issue. And if that's the concern, just don't write a sender on it..

--------------

So bottom line; in the rare case a German or Dutch guy here organizes a SASBE offer.. contact me. I'll make sure they get a SASBE with international stamp, pay the stamps with PayPal and I'll get the freaking stamps. It would really help the global chilli library!

Borders are so 1945ish..

I don't think that's clothing. It looks to me like someone trapped a hippo in a climbing net.

Ya know what really grinds my gears? Stupid, dangerous driving with no upside.

On the way to the hospital? Wife having a baby? Cut your finger off in a bizarre anal/dildo accident? Great - drive like an asshole. Fair game, have at it.

But when there's 8 car lengths available behind me & 200' to the offramp, do you *really* need to gun it & go 100 mph to cut me off?

This just happened to me on the way to the store. And at the end of the offramp was a red light.

Thanks for unnecessarily endangering yourself, me & every other person on the road so you can arrive 0 seconds faster.

That really grinds my gears.

You can use these sort of maniacs to your advantage. They will get to the red light first and start the traffic light sequence. You need to time your approach so that when the lights go green you are still in motion and drive right past them.

At least it makes me feel better.

I prefer to look at them as bait for the highway patrol. If they're going 100, my 80 seems relatively tame by comparison.
