    soil Soil ????

Soil from the dump sounds like an excellent place to pick up trace minerals like lead, uranium, and plutonium. I'll bet you will get some monster peppers with that soil! J/K Seriously, I wouldn't suggest using soil from the dump - you have no idea what contaminants are in there.

    What can it be??

It may be the fan that caused this - especially if they grew for awhile without the fan. I've seen some of mine get knocked over by the force of the wind, then as they adjust, they grow up towards the light, but they have a curved stem as a result. The plants should be fine, especially if you...

    seeds Temperature Cycles During Germination

You could be right - I've had better success with constant temps, but that is just anecdotal. I'd be interested in seeing a more scientific approach to this question. I suppose the amount of varience in temps could play a role as well.

    seeds Temperature Cycles During Germination

Either way should work, but option #2 might add a few days to the germination time.

    Pinching question

I always pinch them off until they are established outside - which is usually about 2-3 weeks after I plant them out in early May. You have a longer growing season than I do, so you could probably get away with pinching them off for a couple of weeks beyond that. Mine are usually about 18" or...

Ghost Peppers grown from a CAN!

The company has been hocking this crap for some time, but the address in the original post was to a domain that was registered yesterday. When you click on the link, it redirects to another domain that is likely the site you saw before. Sneaky. :shame:

    new small plants flowering already

Could be a sign of stress on the plants - make sure they aren't rootbound. Nothing to worry about though. I would just remove the flowers.

    Highalt's 2012 Grow Log

Looks like you have some nice, healthy seedlings there! I'd start potting up, but a few more days in the tray won't hurt them either. I just like to get a jump start on things.

    Square Foot Gardening

That tomato is going to crowd the stuff around it. Same with most of the peppers. It will probably be fine, but you'll get reduced production from each individual plant. I would also be concerned about disease - especially with the tomato. They like to breath - too much crowding can cause lots...

    First timer

Yes, take the ones that have sprouted out of the dome - the humidity in there is only needed for sprouting. They need light as soon as they germinate otherwise they will get leggy. Transplant them when they have one set of true leaves - not including the cotyledons. Also, I forgot to mention in...

    First timer

Watering schedule will depend on the size pots you are using, the temp/humidity in the room, and the size of the plants. I usually just water them when the soil has dried out. You can usually tell by holding the pots - heavier = wet soil, lighter = time to water. You could also use a long stick...
