    Diseased leaf?

A few days ago the leaves on one of my cayenne peppers started to look rather unhealthy. Does this look like some sort of a disease? Should I dig up the plant and put another in its place?

    fertilizer Fertilizer Burn

It looks like I subjected my hot pepper plants to fertilizer burn. Up until last week, I was watering all my pepper plants with Cal-Mag (diluted to 1/4 strength) every watering. I was under the impression that Cal-Mag diluted to that concentration posed no risk of burning the plants. It looks...

    first time growing: trinidad scropions

I've actually had a fan blowing on my hot peppers for a couple weeks now...I moved the plants out from under the fluorescent lights outside into my greenhouse about 2 weeks ago so they could get used to sunlight. The main reason I have a fan blowing on them is to help the moisture in the soil...

Thanks, I'll hold off until I harden them off and get them in the ground.

    first time growing: trinidad scropions

^ Agree with Johnaton. My chinenses aren't very tall, but they are broad and "bushy" since they are getting adequate lighting from the fluorescent lights.

    Yellowing leaves

Thanks! Any recommendations about when it's "safe" to start using liquid kelp and fish emulsion? I don't want to start giving them too many nutrients too soon...

    first time growing: trinidad scropions

Depends on the pepper species...I'd say that a little over 2 months is pretty accurate in terms of a chinense species getting to around 6 inches tall (I planted my chinenses roughly 40 days ago and they are between 2 and 3.5 inches tall). The Anaheims and Cayennes (annuum species) that I planted...

    Yellowing leaves

It looks like the yellowing leaves was likely a delayed result of over-watering. I let the soil get very dry (to the point that the leaves were beginning to wilt) before watering again. Looks like the leaves have "greened-up" since then. I also watered with a 1/4 strength solution of Cal-Mag.

    first time growing: trinidad scropions

The Trinidad Scorpions are slow growers indeed. Here is a picture of mine that was taken today...I planted the seeds between March 27 and April 1 (In the picture there are: Trinidad Scorpions, Bhut Jolokias, Golden Habaneros, and Datils). Oh, and I just started using Cal-Mag this week...I...

    Yellowing leaves

The night that I transplanted them into their new pots, I soaked each one pretty thoroughly since I was afraid that some of them would get transplant shock because some of the transplants lost quite a bit of soil and had their roots exposed when taken out of the 72-cell insert tray they were...

    Yellowing leaves

A couple of days ago I noticed that the top leaves on my bhut jolokias and trinidad scorpions started to turn yellow. The yellowing started with only the new growth, but seems to be progressing downwards to other leaves as well. Any ideas what might be causing this? I am trying to be careful not...

seeds Recommendations for boosting seedling growth?

After doing some more research, it appears that the general consensus is to use 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salt per gallon of water. I think I'm going to go with that, as well as apply a 1/4 strength solution of fish emulsion (5-1-1).

seeds Recommendations for boosting seedling growth?

Thanks! What about spraying the leaves with an Epsom salt solution? I've heard that helps to "green-up" the plants (some of my seedlings are beginning to turn a light green/yellowish color). I've heard suggestions ranging anywhere from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt per spray...

seeds Recommendations for boosting seedling growth?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to start feeding my hot pepper seedlings a (diluted strength) liquid organic fertilizer to help boost their growth rates. The seedlings sprouted the first week of April and have about 2 sets of true leaves. I know it's usually frowned upon to use fertilizer on...

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll play around with moving the lights up/down until I find an optimal distance.

seeds Hot pepper seedling leaves turning purple

Hi everyone. I have noticed that on several of my hot pepper seedlings, the leaves are turning purple in color. I have browsed the forums here and from what I've read, this appears to be a somewhat normal response to placing seedlings underneath fluorescent lights. My plants are underneath two...

    Hello from Newport News, VA

Hi everyone, I'm Jason from Newport News, VA. I have been growing hot peppers as a hobby for a few years now.
