    Root Pouch/Wally World Bag Alternative

http://www.discountmugs.com/product/tot90-non-woven-printed-shopper-tote-bags/   I've bought these bags from this vendor before for work.  They're about the same size as the Wally World bags (20"x13"x8") but you can buy these in bulk (65¢ ea./100, 55¢ ea./200), choose from different colors, and...

water Over-hard Water, Calcium Lock, and Epsom Salt

I just started adding Epsom salt to my irrigation water about 3 weeks ago (2 TBS/3.5 gal water).  Man, what a difference, at least with some of the plants!  I use regular Phoenix tap water that's been sitting for a day or two to allow the chlorine/fluorine to go away and add 1/4 strength fish...

    Temps too high for flowering?

So the last 2 or 3 weeks here in Phoenix have been in the low to high 90's during the day. I'm wondering if this may be the main cause of my pepper plants' flowers drying up and shriveling on the plant or not even flowering at all. Just to be clear, the buds don't fall off fresh and pretty...

chinense Jamaican and Trinidad Scotch Bonnets the same?

I have both growing and was wondering if they're the same thing. I imagine if they are indeed different, it would be a minor thing but was just curious. FYI, I got the seeds from different sources so it very well could be just the name preference of whoever sold the seeds . . . TIA

Root Pouches--More Evidence That They Work!

Transplanted my ~2 month old ghost seedlings that have been growing indoors in 1 pint root pouches (they're now in 2 gal. RPs). I've kept them under 5000K T8 flouros and 4000K CMH bulbs, on 14 hour cycles so they've been doing well. Top watered at first, but I have over 35 seedlings in pint...

pests What's this bug and do I want it on my plants?

Anybody know what this bug is and should I squash it? Normally, I would just kill it, but I'm going to see if it might be beneficial first. I didn't see it eating the plant so I left it for the time being . . . Pepper content: It's sitting on a Scotch Bonnet :)

    Who here eats whole superhots?

So I've been wondering--how many people actually eat whole pods at once? I'm talking superhots of course. I personally haven't got the tolerance, yet, as I only add enough fresh or powdered to make my food hot. I can't even imagine the pain of eating whole ones. So why do you do it, other...

    Smart Pots?

Did a search and nothing turned up so I'm posting here. Has anyone used Smart Pots (http://www.smartpots.com/) before? They're basically prolpropylene mesh bags to hold dirt and the porosity helps aeration and overwatering. Seems like a novel idea and sorta makes scientific and practical...

Anybody else bake with hot peppers?

Anybody else try baking sweet stuff with hot peppers? I was reading a thread started by FarmerJack, I think, and he made chocolate chip cookies with hot peppers. Sounded weird at first but it kinda made sense after I thought about the combo. I just baked a batch of choclate chip cookies and...

Hi all, from (mostly) sunny Phoenix!

Long time lover of hot, spicy foods and am starting to grow my own for the first time. I'm a big fan of being able to do stuff myself and being self-sufficient, however, I'm just not experienced with growing things! The community here seems legit and helpful so I'm excited to be a part of it!
