A litte planning update:

For my 20 (so far) root pouches (10 gallon Boxer Brown) this year.

To get 200 gallons or 1 cubic yard, I am mixing:

1 @ 3 ft3 of Premier peat moss,

5 @ 2 ft3 Happy Frog,

4 @ 1½ ft3 Ocean Forest,

2 @ 2 ft3 CocoLoco,

4 @ 1 ft3 Pro-Mix Ultimate Organic,

1 @ 4 ft3 chunky perlite.

31 ft3 in all.
how much did that cost ya?
I'm slowly counting the cost of a new addictive hobby...

Premeir peat moss - $10.47 each

Happy Frog- $14.95 each

Ocean Forest - $14.95 each

CocoLoco - $18.95 each

Pro-mix Ultimate - $ 6.44 each

Chunky perlite - $ 35.95 each

I come up with $244.63. Plus tax, of course (the guvmint always takes their cut).

It is  quite addictive, and although I am sure one might do it for less, I find that I do not have the time (nor the patience) to make my own, hence my buying the bags of pre-made.

Last day of April, four weeks to go...

A few pics:

The cayennes in the foreground are nearly a foot tall now, been clipping off pods.

Started the hardening-off.

Temps in the upper 70°s, indirect sunlight.

No picture, sorry. Photobucket is totally F-ed up today, after five years, it is probably time find another sharing site.

EDIT:

Photobucket working again, sort of... they have so many affiliates that it jacks up my account. Just let me upload and share photos without having to allow your data-mining, ad-serving, scumbag partners using all my bandwidth.

Rant over...

Anyway, the pic:

I am so glad I resisted temptation to plant out early.

Mother's Day, the weekly forecast called for overnight lows in the mid-40°s F this last weekend.

At 5:30 this morning, when I turned on the news before going to work, it was 32°F. Frost or freeze warnings everywhere.

Yeah, I believe I will stick to my plan to plant out Memorial Day weekend...

Also, I added ten more 10 gallon Boxer Brown and six 7 gallon Boxer Brown (for tomatoes) root pouches.

This ups my potting mix requirements to approximately 342 gallons, or a little over 45 ft3.

I added another 8 one ft3 bags of Pro-Mix Ultimate, a two ft3 (four ft3 expanded) bale of Pro-Mix General Purpose, a four ft3 bag of regular (small) perlite.

Pics to follow.

Time to mix up the medium for the root pouches.

Five months from the day I started this glog, it is finally time to plant out.

7:30 A.M., 68°F, partly cloudy.

I need to run the RotoTiller through the raised bed one more time to loosen the soil up, and then decide what goes in the ground, and what goes into the root pouches.

Pics to follow...

10:30 A.M., raised bed planting complete.

That means another 15 ft.3 of medium.

And, of course, there are the Cayennes:

six of which will go in the 'Box' (seen behind the BBB Minis above), along with three Big Guy Jalapenos.

Thanks for looking, updates as the season progresses.

Talk about perfect timing...

I had finished the root pouches about an hour ago, and we just had a nice rain shower, probably less than a quarter inch, but it got everything good and wet.

great looking plant bed and grow

how do you usually go about harvesting them when they're so tightly planted? also there's a fence behind which leaves the back row quite hard to reach

all the best

It does get a bit tight at the end of the season, but I just reach in and pick them off.

Sorry about the above photo being missing for a while. Those A-holes at Photobucket really know how to F--- things up.

No sure about the peppers yet, but the tomatoes are loving my soil mix:
