I also bought two live plant varieties of sauce tomatoes from Burpee (three each of Roma and SuperSauce Hybrid).

It has been three weeks since plant-out, time for a little update.

Great looking setup you have going.  Can't wait to see that spot turn into a massive hedge full of pods.  I've been eyeing those exact brown root pouches for the future, as they seem to be priced better than other fabric pots.  It is still a bit early in the season, but what are your thoughts on them so far?  How often are the 10 gallon pouches getting watered now and how often do you think once the roots fill up as the plants become mature?  Thanks for sharing all the pics of your grow!

i started this year with a bunch of 3-gallon grow pouches. love them. moved several up to the brown 5-gal versions just a couple weeks ago....wish i had gone with 10. it's been 90+ here for over a week, and it's definitely a noticeable difference - the 3-gals need watering every single day, sometimes twice. the larger pouches, not so much. can take pictures when i get home.

Thanks.

So far, I am liking them a lot.

No real schedule for watering. I use the wilting/drooping method to tell when they need a drink, so, just when they need it. Once the soil mix got soaked through, (it took a while; the peat was almost hydrophobic) it appears they really retain moisture quite well.

I imagine by the end of the season, the rootball will fill the entire bag.

The Black Bhutlah SLP pods start turning color when they are quite small.

I thought maybe sunburn, but even the side away from the sun turns as well, and it is the same color as the larger pods are all over.

Not sure how to tell when they are fully ripe?

Wow! Your Ghengis Khans Brain looks evil! That's one crazy Madballz with the appendage. Madballz is one of my favorite strains. I grew it last year and again this year. The light green color looks the same as mine but mine were more elongated last year, like your second Madballz pic. That Bhutlah x BBG7 looks great! They all look fantastic!

Thank you.

The Madballz are actually from two different plants. One is elongated, the other is more rounded. As I mentioned, the seeds were saved from a volunteer last year, which grew near some Yellow 7-Pot crosses (Yellow 7-Pot/King Naga).

The elongated one looks more like the parent.

As you know, the original Madballz is a Yellow 7-Pot/Chocolate Bhut Jolokia cross, so the round pods may have back-crossed with the Yellow 7-Pot/King Naga cross.
