Cappy's 2015 Chocolate BS

It has been several year since I have started a grow log like a newb but I enjoy this time of year starting plants.  My name is Cappy and I first discovered the Seven Pod in a seed trade from Sara R. in Trinidad in 2008.  That year I had a grow log and documented my grow of an extra brainy seven pod and the Brain Strain 7 Pod was born.  Since that time I have shared seeds with anybody and everybody who asked for little more than the cost of shipping.  I did not try to profit or chase the world hottest title, that goes to CARDI and the creator of the seven pod.  I am just a grower of limited means with a closet with a grow light and a backyard in a residential neighborhood.  What I am is proud of my contribution to the pepper community and the opportunity to shared this pepper with the rest of the world.

Last year I received some seeds from a very generous Trinidadian friend here in the states by the name of Judy.  I have dreams on making a chocolate version of my yearly hot sauce BrAiN sTrAiN.  There have been both red and yellow versions in the past so 2015 will be the year of the chocolate BS.  First round of seeds were sown last weekend January 4 and today I have my first seedling so here we go!

Did some potting up today picking the best 48 seedlings and moved back under the HID before the cold weather hits this week.  I don't know how most of you get your seedlings out of the seed tray but I use two butter knives and pinch and lift.  I have already placed some soil in the 4" pot just enough that the first leaves are taller than the pot and fill.  It is quit easy to do when you don't have to move more than you shoulders to move the seedling.  These are the same seed tray since I have been at THP, I also take the best seedling from both trays and move the remaining seedling to just one 72 cell tray to continue growing and filled the other tray again with soil to start more seeds in.  I call this Cappy's hot butter knife seedling transplant trick.  I did feed very light dosage Flora Nova grow to water in the potted up plants.

Looking good. Must be nice to be able to sit outside and do that. Expecting blizzard conditions up in the northeast in the next few days.

First sunny day in what seems like forever here, getting down to freezing Tuesday and Wednesday night.  My plants will be tucked up inside under the warm HID growing like they're living near the equator.  Forgot to add I did sweeten my mix by adding some mushroom compost and Espoma garden-tone before potting up.  Thanks Terry!

Just out of curiosity, did you also develop the Yellow Brain Strain & if so, how- just a variant in pods that you isolated & grew out over generations? Thanks.

The Yellow Brain Strain 7 Pod was a collaboration between Judy and myself.  Both Judy and I were getting mutations of an ultra bumpy yellow 7 pod and selective breeding was used over several season to stabilize the desired trait.  Judy asked and I gave permission to use the name Yellow BS.

Hmm... sooo... and I'm new to this... so the red Brain Strain is a variant of the original 7 Pot & the yellow 7 Pot is a variant of the original 7 Pot (right?) and the yellow Brain Strain came from the yellow 7 Pot so... all 4 are from the original red 7 Pot, right?

Thanks!

Thanks for your question but this is a grow log, not a discussion of what you think about variants of 7 Pods.  Please us the search function and read old threads here on THP and you will find your answer.  Thank you.
