CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

I have seen it. :) Compared to what you're doing, I'm a small puppy and you're a Doberman. You've got massive growing going on. Fun to see, especially though pictures. You must have a ton of resources to dedicate that much land/space to peppers. Good luck with it. I'll continue to observe.

Chris

Looks good Chris...u should check out my GLOG as well :) Big dogs doing big things! :P

About 140 seeds up now 9 days post sowing. :) It's going fast! I'm taking a different approach this year. I plan on leaving most of my plants in 36 cell plug trays until plant-out. It should work given my late season start. It's MUCH easier to grow in trays than individual pots. You sacrifice some size, but in my past experience, I have gotten nice yields from smaller plants put in the ground at the right time. If they greatly outgrow the plug, then they will be potted up. It saves time/money to keep size manageable. If I was doing this for a job, of course I'd pot-up to sell larger plants. We'll see how it works out.

I think you hit on an important point, Chris. The transplanting
timing is important. If a plant is in 'go mode', it will take off -
all things being equal. I think the trick is to transplant so the
growth trajectory is not impaired. You grow sounds great, can't
wait to feast my eyes on some phots of those babies!

A few pictures of my grow set-up. Nothing too exciting to show yet, but....

That is what I am talking about. Nice. So many times all I see is your awesome pod pics. Now I can see they really do come from plants and are't just beaned to you from heaven or hell.

All I can say is impressive! ! Love to see a point of difference in a grow list and you have about 50!! Best of luck for the season ahead

Chris

Cooler temps might help slow down growth. I start mine upstairs and once they get to a certain size I move them to the basement where it is a bit cooler, they stay alive and don't grow too fast.
