HBJ 2015 - Got a box of pepper love in mail today!!!

Just getting this thrown up here so I can do some edits to it as it is shorter than I want it.

Scaling back my supers to one 30 plant raised bed and one 30 plant hab like bed.

annuums, sweets, and misc peppers will go in the back garden.  Since I had 8 rows of hots out there this year and only planning on 2-3 rows next year, it should make more room for other things.  Also scaling back the number of each type of plant I am growing.  Looking at most 2 per plant type, except for the ones in the back garden.

Maybe I missed it, but what is it?

Everything is looking good Jeff. With plantout 8 weeks or so away, what hits the dirt next?

Just potted up 15 peppers to gallon pots.  They were a little pot bound.  Having to water them a lot and with that some yellowing of leaves and some drop.  This should fix that, or make it better to control.

Next up are the tomatoes and some cabbage.  Then will be the melons.  I think that is all I will be planting seeds indoors for this year.  Everything else can be direct sow.  I found a nice place to get cippolini sets and have quite a few coming in.  Won't be starting onion seeds.
The OW is a chenzo...very low to the ground wide canopy type pepper.  Smoked the pods and made a powder and put it on just about everything.  The seed I started this year for another one has pods on it already too.  For their size, they kick out some pods.  Heat level is an upper cayenne range from my experience.

Potting up the majority of my remaining hots today.  That should give them about a month in the gallon pots before hardening off starts.  The earlier pot ups are reaching for the sky.

All my sweets came up but my sweet goliath peppers.  I was using old seed on those however.  Might see if I can find them in plant form somewhere this spring or something similar.

Cabbage popped up almost over night.  Eggplants are up.  Tomatoes are slow going for some reason.  14/30 better boys is all I have of those.  So less than 50%.  Time will tell.  For the most part, if I have to, I can buy plants.

Hope to get some more pics up soon.

The little one was an extra that I pulled out of the pot with the bigger brother. It has some roots, so it might make it.

Potting up the tomatoes and cabbage later today and soon to get melon seed in the dirt.

Plants look real nice. The hooked hand looks real damn painful. How do you get that out without removing the nail?

Oh, its not my hand....I just posted it for the shiver up the spine effect.  I've only had one hook in my hand that was buried past the barb and that went into my right thumb, joint nearest the end.  Had some lures hanging from a shelf and picked up on it to lift the back treble off the shelf and bring it down.  In the downward motion the back treble caught the shelf and stuck me good with front treble.  Clear to the bend in the hook.  Had to pull it out the way it came in, but with the bend of the hook, the point came out a different spot than it went in.

That was my slide down the bathroom wall moment.

Spread some peat across both gardens.  About 40 cubic feet.  Really loved how it made my beds so workable and how well the plants did.  Going to be tilling it tomorrow (weather permitting) and planting the onion plants and other cold weather crops this week.

Hoping buying cipolini onion plants I will get bigger results than when I grew them out from seed.

Left a few onions in through the winter and they are greening back up.

Third week of May is target date for pepper and tomato plant out.

Got the front garden tilled and ready for the cold crops to go in.  Home Depot has their fruit trees on sale so I picked up a bartlett and a tart cherry tree.  Lots of planting to do this weekend and some potting up as most all of the tomatoes are now up.

Front garden with 18 cubic feet of peat added to it.  Loved how it did in the raised beds, so added some to the gardens.

63 of my 72 tomato/cabbage seeds germed and are potted up.  Got 24 melon seeds in the dirt now and that should be it for the indoor sowing.

All onions are planted out except the cipollini, and those get planted tomorrow.
