Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

So did you poke hubby & remind him how lucky he was to have a chilli head wifey Melissa?

Mezo.

I think the hubby has to poke himself every time he peeks at the grow log! :P He is very grateful to have turned his wifey in to a chile head, and even more proud when he takes a peek in and knows how hard I am working to achieve my goals! Thanks Mezo! ;)

Looks great Melissa amazing photo and pods the plants are loving you for what you have provided them. How is your Peach TS going I was trying to get those started this year, but I was to late as Joe sold out hopefully we can working something out for those. The have the scotch bonnet charcteristics from the exterior but with a scorpion flavor hopefully you could get them to tail that is the one project I wanted to do this year. My 7 pod brainstrain yellow is flowering as well can not wait to start seeing pods hanging off.

Thanks Fernando, the plants are definitely showing me they like what I am doing for them. So gratifying to watch them grow and reward me with flowers and fruit! Every day I see something new, loving it. Hopefully the heat doesn't hurt them too bad, it's going to be one HOT summer! Luckily I didn't cut my entire shade tree down this year, so everything in pots can be moved under the tree if needed. Looking forward to the Peach TS, will save a couple pods for you. :)

That black scorpion tongue is looking really cool. How many plants do you have growing total?

How many plants, oh man is that a tuff question, I wish I knew the total count! Lol. I will be getting a large load of potting soil this week so I can finish up, will take inventory then. I would say I have at least 300 plants right now, 100+ in the ground. I must be crazy!

Hey Melissa, your glog is looking awesome. I also have the AjiJoe Hand Gernade. I wasn't going to try it this season since its a little late for us up here in WA, but I just had to. I did the paper towel technique and it looks I got a hook. I'll be putting it in some soil soon. In the meantime I'll be watching for yours. Keep it up the other peppers you got going are awesome, nice colors all around.
Aaron

Thanks for stopping in Aaron! :) The Aji Joe Choc hand grenade is growing fast, you should get some pods before your season is up. I counted at least 6 more pods set in just two days, tons more open flowers. I have one in the ground that hasn't started to flower yet, will be interesting to see if there are any pod variations. Good luck to you this season!

Peach Trinidad Scorpion with pods set, whoop whoop! :D

Aji Joe's supreme mix mystery pepper. I was right, it's turning completely purple! :) Very pretty pepper.

300 plants? OMG you are darn near a nursery
And they all look great - healthy and robust!
You have got pepper juju for sure!

Your grow log is turning into a pictorial demonstration of how pods of nearly every species should look! Freakin A! And your Hab Nots are starting to look a bit Scorpish i think. Keep the updates rolling. im loving those pod pics.

I agree Bee!

300's a substantial amount of work for sure.

I have 65 in one garden, and ~200 in the other, and about 300 on the porch yet (not all chilis on the porch though). I should do a final count one of these days.

Loving the pod pics! The Hab Not could be a 7pot cross as well.

Thanks Beehunter! :) Taking pics is my favorite part of this process, never discovered macro mode on my camera until I starting taking pics of the peppers! lol. I need a baccatum flower to throw in the mix, they are my slowest to flower. Hope all is well!

Glad I am not the only one with a massive amount of peppers, that 300 count is a very rough estimate and doesn't include all my non-pepper plants! Always something to do in the garden and never enough time huh?! :) I am getting 5 yards delivered Thurs, time to finish potting up this weekend.

I think the hab not is a cross as well, or maybe mislabeled? I don't know for sure yet, it is one of my oldest plants so labeling getting mixed up along the way is possible. Next year I will use my p-touch for labeling. Thanks for stopping in!

Thanks Joe, sounds like a keeper! I want to make a lot of powders this season so perfect addition to the garden. :)

Found this guy today, patrolling one of the greenhouses. I started talking to him and he posed! lol

As always, very nice pix of your peppers. The mantis is very cool, What a great helper!

You are the poo Melissa! Love your little poser too! Please post some bad plant pics to make me feel better! Not too far behind you, but damn sure not close enough! Keep up the great grow and pics.
Shane

Thanks for always stopping in Emon! ;)

Thanks Paul, love those mantis, doing a great job of keeping the bad bugs away! :)
Yes Melissa, You are the s**t! I can't even post pics of my plants for fear of embarassment!! But in my defense this is the third straight record breaking heat day in a row here in Vegas (103 here in boulder) and breezy (10-20mph breeze) Lol. My plants won't "put out" like yours probably until sept.-oct. So nice to see what's ahead.

Fun, reading, excitement at every turn. My question is, what happens when 300 turns into 3000 ? OMFG...

Time to make a career change.

300 posts in three months will become 3000. But wait, you won't have enough time to take pics and
interact with members, you will be too busy tending, selling, trading and processing peppers !!!

Ghosty...

WOW, 300 plants and still have time to keep up with the young'uns. You must have great organizational skills and a really neat sock drewer too. :)

Pods are looking good and what did Joe call your mystry pepper a Firecracker Tepin, very nice. I love that shade of Purple. I may have to look for some seeds for next year.

Keep 'em growing strong,
RM

thanks your friend Joe

Wow Melissa plants look amazing my plants are barely starting to get pods or have flowers. I didn't even realize you had 300 plant I can not image how your harvest are going to look. I was having the same issue today with the root pouches a pain in the butt to tranfer the plant need to get my neighbor help so I didn't damage the plant. I sent my sister the pot and she is going to sew some for me I just need to find the material (Downtown fashion district for some alley shopping) and decide on the dimensions. I was considering to do something like the geopots with the velcro on the side for easier transplanting and double layer with another material in between to prevent from drying to quickly. I am excited to see how your TS peach matures.

i forgot i sent you some of the Peach T.S. take good care of them there kinda rare at the moment, my friend and i are working on getting it a little more well known

i really dont have enough seed to sell this year and thats why i took it of my list

i had sent NOVA in OZ some but Australian custom seized them for some reason??, sad thing was they where well within the guidelines of there requirments (no pepper pieces with the seeds and no mold) really very upsetting

but as i said Mellissa take good care of them not many out there have them to my knowledge

please post pics of them when there ripe, i sure they all wanna see what they look like, if mine make it past the torrential rain, sun scald and slugs, i will post pics of mine

hopefully there will be a larger amount of seeds for the Peach T.S. available this fall

thanks your friend Joe
