RocketMan's Glog - Starting Second Season

Finally getting around to germinating my seeds to start growing some peppers. I took 14 varities out of the 42 in my seed library (Special thanks to everyone that helped out with seeds) and some of the old pill bottles I had saved (usually that's where I keep the screws I collect when I strip out an old computer system) then added 8 seeds to the bottles and filled with water. Going to let the seeds soak for 24 hours, then place on coffee filters and back into the bottles till its time to plant them. Here's a shot on the bottles:

*Thank you Gentlemen

I really wanted to get a nice cross section of heat levels and to grow some peppers that I hear alot of talk about but can't find locally. most of them will be going into sauces however if I happen to get a really good crop of peppers I might have to look into drying some and making some powders. This is the first year that I'm growing peppers from seeds. I've planted Jalapeno and Habs that I picked up from Lowes or Home Depot before but never really done the research and gotten the dirt under my fingers.
I thought about whether to use Peat Pellets or Rock Wool but right now i'm thinking about just going with some good soil or a seed starting mix and I already have a bunch of Red Solo Cups. I'm planning on 6 or 8 holes in the bottom of the cup so I can bottom water them and I might place some up and down the sides so that some air can get in.

I'm really looking forward to this and if it goes good I might even be able to convince the boss to let me take a section of the back yard and put in a garden. Might even put in a flower or 2, well so long as they're edible that is.

Thanks for stopping by and check back I'll be here.

Thanks for stopping by,
RM

Ive looked on ebay Bill & the bags are huge, how do you make them small little bags? do you put it in twice or soemthing or can you buy bags that small, or is it that particular machine allows you to do that?

Mezo.

Hi Bill
We're into Kimjang here... I made Kakduki with the Korean radishes from my garden two weeks ago and this week it's Mak kimchi. In nine days it'll be time to process the veggies for the fermented sauce.

Sorry to hear about your broken ankle, that really sucks. Hope you heal quickly!

Well, I guess the change of weather and season is having an effect on the plants cause they're putting on flowers for the first time and like crazy.

Thanks Jamie, it was a great weekend and out of 16 pounds of smoked Pulled Pork and 8 pounds of smoked chicken I had just enough left to make a sandwich for lunch today. No one left the Adoption Party hungry. :)

Hopefully your able to get some pods, but that birthday gift look awesome and loaded. Happy early Birthday and that is awesome about the new family members wish you best it sounded like an awesome lunch. How is the foot doing?

Thanks Fernando. The foot is healing nicely and won't require surgery but it's still 5 or 6 more weeks in this dang boot.

Oops, sorry Mezo, too many beers, Yeah, I get the big ones and cut off the length I want then seal one end. I fold it in half long wize and seal it again about 1/4 inch in. once that's sealed pull it out and upll eht enda apart to that you have 2 nice pockets on the outside and a little maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch one in between. Fill the outside pockets and then vacume it and seal it up. I'll try and remember to get some pics next time i do it.

Thanks Bill, thought that must how you was doing it as i couldnt find small bags, then i noticed in your picture the heat seal marks on both sides & figured it out from there.

Mezo.

YAY, I'm finally getting some peppers! Today I looked at the plants and got 6 pods off of the Cayanetta and a Jalapeño.

Woo Hoo!

Good Afternoon THPers,
I have been remiss in my posting lately so here's a little catch-up.

The Cayeenetta that I was given for my birthday is producing like a mad plant. You can see some nice color here of some pods that have a little more green to get rid of.

Thai Short is podding up nicely now

While small pods this Jalapeno was my sole producer for the longest time.

One of the kids grabbed the plastic knife I had the name on out and so, I think it's a Scorpion Yellow but I guess I'll have to wait till I get some pods to know for sure.

100_3177.jpg

Ok the knife in this one says Peruvian White Habanero but the pod just doesn't look right so this could be the scorpion and the last one be the PWH
