Hi Shane

I have been pulling some really good numbers lately!

Boy, I'll say! I'd be jealous but I've got enough to handle here as it is...

Venison is all about the prep and as was mentioned earlier their diet. The corn/grain fed deer are very good. I don't mind a bit gamey so I butcher and cook pretty much the whole thing. The sausage was a gift from a friend...The steak sauce was real good. I think I will mix a little bourbon in and see what that does. I will post the recipe once tuned.

I've certainly eaten my share of Venison... Our seasons run from late October 'til almost the end of the year. The primary feed then is the last of the tender grasses and nut mast. Mostly Acorns and Beechnuts. I think eating nutmast is partly opportunistic feeding, and partly getting a layer of fat on before winter. It really accentuates the gamy flavors though. As you say... preparation is nine tenths of cooking with game meats. When we're lucky enough to have a wild Turkey to eat we put peeled apples in the cavity to counter the gamy taste, and bard the breast with slices of bacon or salt pork to keep the breast meat from drying out too much.
The next time your wife makes whipped cream, try using bourbon instead of vanilla... it has a sort of caramel taste.
Everything is looking stellar Chief! It's inspirational to see you doing so well in the face of the plant virus hitting your chiles. Cheers!

ahem-bumpidy is Britt for Bump!

I hope you kept seeds for the Infinity- in the name of "help", my Infinities, Red Dougs, Primos, and DBT'S got "put in on bag instead of all those different ones!!!!!!!!!" oh,well-not like their are gonna be any duds in there ...Russian roulette maybe?

And since the "I" word came up again, I didn't follow my own "there is no such thing as a little one" advice this AM- and little 1" one promptly made me its " Beeeeiotch!" this morning......and I didn't clue in when I cut it open and some RAN out? :fireball: and that was with food brother! So you get more accolades for eating that Insane Clown'finity!

On a more level note....I made the "wallyworld"(It is the only place open 24 hrs within 40 miles of Port Fourchon)run yesterday to find a cheap shaker for the powders-got some cheap garlic salt(beat 50Cents!)-poured half out, and in went the De arbol and smoked Manzano. The "anticaking" stuff in there should keep it from clumping-and its goin on whatever I have for lunch(my dinner)-breakfast would've
been a lost cause for obvious reasons    !

I'm jealous of those Manzano trees you've got growing there. I've got some of the seeds you sent me on some moist paper towels but no pops yet. Will keep my fingers crossed.

Those are some great harvest pics and the country fried venison brought back some memories of years gone by.

Keep up the great work.

Robert

On my phone, so detailed responses later. Its been a terrible week at work. Hopefully the worst is behind me. Need some garden time and positve notes right now. Was one of the first on scene to a suicide attempt yesterday. Terrible scene, young Sailor that turned 20 this week...They'll recover physically. Don't know how a young person with so much going for them gets to that dark a place. I suppose there are many things in life I don't yet understand, and some I never will. To top it off as I sat next to the Sailor in their hospital bed as NCIS asked questions the civilian hospital staff was joking around about how "funny" it was to have NCIS there just like the TV show...

Sorry to be a bummer...just needed to vent. Take the time this weekend to remind a young person what a precious gift life is.

Prayers for you Shane. I've told my congregation if we knew the burdens that were carried silently by folks around us, it would be absolutely overwhelming. There's a lot of hurt out there. Being a strong supportive presence will make a bigger difference than you'll probably know. I'm glad you were there for this person's sake. Hang in there, garden time will be coming. It's actually a big part of why I garden, it's good for the soul.

It sure is Pulp. And Shane never be sorry for venting. We all need an outlet and maybe that young man didn't have one. Hence feeling there is no way out. I work for children's services here in New Jersey and I know the stress that comes from trying to help those who are most in need. You will always have an open ear with me. Stay blessed my friend

Damn I recently gone trough this with my sisters cousin, but it wasn't an attempt. Sorry to hear, I hope all is well with you.

I knew I could count on you Fernando!

Thanks for all the support guys/gals. The Sailor is doing fine. She could still use some prayers. I'll be back on tomorrow. Training for my next 100 mile run so weekend updates will be a little (very little) less frequent. I got a 20 miler in the morning in the mountains near Corona...gonna be a fun one! Will be on with more propper responses for everyone once I get back!

Have a great weekend,
Shane

Holy Chit Shane... From soup to nuts! You've been through the whole nine yards this week for sure. It's hard for me to understand how anybody can get "tunnel vision" like that. There's so many things I want to do and Nobody gets all their choices. I've been working on my bucket list since the early 70's when I was 14. I was with my grandfather when he died then. We were cutting brush to clear up a blueberry lot in the woods half a mile from the road when he had a massive aneurism... I found out later he'd blown a hole between the chambers of his heart. Nobody but doctors did CPR in those days, so I treated him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and the other first aid I'd learned in the Boy Scouts, and stayed with him until I was sure he was gone. I knew if I left him to get to the phone, he'd be gone when I got back. That's when I found out that I don't panic in emergencies... I get the emotional impact later. Brian's right... eat a chile... it's a mood elevator!
Hope the run and the garden time help you clear your mind. We're pullin' for both of you.

You and that young Sailor are surely in all our thoughts and prayers. Those young people are lucky to have a strong leader like you in their lives.

Keep up the Great job.

Shane-
1.Tough week man...but helping other people with their burdens, will make yours much lighter.Done CPR thing several times, one thing they don't tell you -it doesn't work most of the time, or you bring back a brain dead body. You are fighting so much more than a beatless heart, but you gotta try. Most people wouldn't-that says a lot. Takes a bit to get past the "not resuscitated"-but don't wear the blame.
2...I got a cool paper wasp nest, I was gonna do something with it ..but what...now it flat, but the colors are so awesome ,I can't round file it yet!Be glad its not a Giant Hornet...talk about leave a mark!
3..I decided already that I don't care what it is ...if I like it, its a winner-I have a bunch still that I can't Id!
4. That powder was awesome on the steaks last night-I got jumped in the Yota at noon, drove 160 miles home...picked 2 gallon baggies worth, pounded a few brews, cooked us some steaks w/marinated Aji Umbas that Windchicken had sent(sweet and mild-really good), crashed for 2 hours, and then got up, and shagged on back to the ship for 0500, ate breakfast! ..a quick work out , thinkin ,ah noon is coming and I can crash bigtime ....and then Operations called and took my opposite and sent him away, put us on daylight hours ...too funny, bet I sleep tonight bruddah!!!
Beers-
Dave

...and Nice Porn!

Gonna try this new "extreme" thing out...was resisting the urge to buy in, but when it said no more photo limits and half price through tonight I thought what the heck??? I'll give it a shot! Big harvest today, and a few more to go before I am done with this round ripening. I have late starts just starting to come into some color so it'll slow down, but not stop. I am quickly running out of room! Lets see if this works???
