WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
  • 5 Jalapeño
  • 1 Cayenne
  • 1 Serrano
  • 7 Datil
  • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
  • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Need to start clearing our yard to grow more & more & more peppers ;) (*WG rollseyes*)

Top left to right: two Thai Hot and one Cayenne. Bottom row all Datil. BTW I don't grow everything in clay pots, just happen to get a good deal on a bunch in yard sale for a few bucks.

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

8 Jamaican Habs in ground and cherry tomatoe in the pot, I need to find a good place to plant the tomatoe soon.

Top left Serrano and more Datil, I'm probably going to gift a few Datils for xmass and some of the other peppers

Edit: final list copied to first post from post #40. These seeds were soaked in water on 12/31/12 and planted 1/1/13 \o/

Edit: This list is constantly being updated as new hooks pop. Even though I lost #5 :/ I will not give up as there are 2 other seeds in dat egg mon ....

Got some JA Habs and MOA seeds from Ramon and was wondering how they fare here in good ole Hellinois? ;) They look amazing and am looking for a staple I can grow multiple plants of to use in salsa (so far deciding between Caribbean Red and Orange Hab)
Jerry
Jerry,
I'm in Chicago and both the JA's and MoA's grow fine with the JA's being more produdive out of the two. If you're futher South and your growing season is longer then you'll fair out better,
Most type of Hab varieties produce early with bumper crops, that includes the Orange Hab and Caribbean Red. I've grown the Caribbean Red for yrs now and will continue to. The peppers are uniform shape and besides the walls being somewhat thicker compared to the Orange Hab the heat level is higher and the flavor has a higher citrus note.

..............................

Ramon,
Best of wishes to you and your family.

Thanks for all your support here and with the other glogs.
Having the opportunity to grow the authentic Jamaican Red Habaneros has made my season a complete success ! Thanks to you for providing the seeds.

I hope to see what WalkGood has in store for next season's grow.

Ramon, don't go! But if you have to travel, as Jamie said, we gotcha covered! For me, might be summer but gotcha! Thank you for all your help this year, mi hermano!

I’m not going anywhere just be participating less as family & work are priorities right now but I will still have a grow if they don’t die from lack of all the attention I provided past years. Keep up da great work and happy new year \o/

Greg best wishes back at you, thanks for all your support with your knowledge, seed and information sharing. I’ll try to document some of my grow in 14 but don’t think I have enough time to run a glog :/
Wishing you mucho success in 2014 \o/

As I stated the other day, here’s a few last pictures from the 24 and the 25th grow season of 2013. This glog is now official over, happy new year to everyone :)

MG soil as I didn’t get compost running again for 14 and some new pots. I’m shifting some of the grow to 7gal nursery pots I picked up for 1.10 each from nursery supplier. Although the best girls will get a set of 15gal shoes as I still have a few left

Nice little pull! I know that MG turns some folks stomachs, but the stuff works and is on just about every shelf. Good luck in '14! My 13 is as Pia puts it..."Done to the Done Done!" also, a pull today then off to the compost pile for them babies... :mope:

Great grow and show of the pepper love this season Ramon! I will drink to another amazing season in the books for you and I my friend!

Hey Ramon, I just wanted to stop in to say thanks for all the effort that you put into your 2013 glog. Aside from putting me on to a few new varieties that I NEED to grow next year, I really appreciated all the fantastic recipes that you put up for everyone to see and try for themselves. You've been a real advocate for sharing the knowledge, and have made this site even better.

I hope 2014 is a rewarding year for you professionally and personally. I look forward to your next glog, whenever that might be.

It's no surprise to me that the peeps here are awesome and its important to me to say it here for those that might not know what I know. This fact is what drove me all year, thank you!

Yes I say thank you back at you …. Those that have replied here and in other glogs, given me seed, advice, tips, tricks, recipes, sauces, powder and wisdom … you are all simply da best!!!

I wish you and yours the best for the new year!

Rather than recapping, I’ve hot linked some of my favorite posts throughout the year, they are also on the first page. If there are others that you’d like me to add just let me know, again hab an awesome New Year everyone \o/

If you want two "must try," it's the Scotch Bonnet sauce and Green Mango Salsa

Again Happy New Year!

What a cool idea... putting the season highlights at the beginning or end of each glog so people who come after can find them easily. You too if you want to refer someone to a specific post after the fact. Cheers Ramon, and hope you don't become a stranger! :)

Dang it Ramon...I been searching back through all 119 (almost 120 now  ) to find those posts!!! Now you give the cliffs notes summary page!?!?!?! Haha...what a freaking awesome idea. You did that throughout with links...a cool way to keep it fresh and still give respect to the posts of old.

Ramon...you da poo!

All good things must come to an end buddy. This was an amazing glog to follow, and will be looking forward to more from you Sr. Ramon! OH NO, not the miracle gro! Giving up on organics? Hope you and the fam have a wonderful New Year!
