DaSauce year of pain 2019

Both the bonnets under lights started to kick in nicely. Actually all of them under the lights are doing better but man is that Aji Oro sloooowwwwwww. Weather has been kinda shit for a few days. Not as much sun so the window sill plants are not exploding like the first pancas yet. I got 3 Sugar Rush Peach and the other 5 pancas in the sills now. The first 5 pancas are just beautiful though.

Need to get more seedling mix today and seed a patch in the front yard. My "ivy war" is over and the front yard will be a lawn again. Well except for some wild flower seed mix and surprise lilies. My aunt sent me some of her bulbs last year i got them in the ground before winter. They are coming up now.

Sofar it looks like these will make it easily

10 aji panca...need 5....luv dat powda mon!!!!
8 Sugar Rush Peach...need 3 at most
8 Antep Aci Dolma.. need 2-3
7 Brown Bhuts... only need 3-4
4 Aleppo but could easily be more
3 P. Dreadie
2-3 TFMs
2-4 Bolsa De Dulce...these are starting to look nice too after a slow start
6 Zapotec...only planned for 4 and 2 mucho nachos but might do all Zapotec.

Still got a tray of annuum sprouts that just started getting true leave

12 Tekne Dolmasi

2 Overwintered mini reds
2 Overwintered Aji Arnaucho

Plus 12 seedlings from online orders

All in all i got way more than i need and some are really pretty seedlings. A little small but very healthy. Too large atm is a bit of a problem for me until they can get some outside time anyway. If i can get most of them to a similar size they can ride it out under the lights and i can keep some select plants on the sills. Temps under the lights are holding steady in the 70-75F range.

My Juanito's order arrived. The peppers did not like being shipped in the cold. One JPGS is struggling but i think all will make it.

Aji Oro finally took off

Best bonnet so far is the TFM but the Dreadies are not too far behind

Them brown bhuts though are not like growing bonnets.....sloooowww to kick in under the exact same conditions. 1 Dreadie is in with them

Got a couple Bolsa de Dulce that look like this and 2 more a bit smaller

6 Zapotecs look ok but not great yet

Aji Arnaucho was also already hardened off and blooming. I picked most off the other day and it had more today

The compost pile on the jala patch was turned over are pretty much ready.....Gunna be a great bed this year. Worms galore when i turned it.

Your Zapotecs look a lot like mine, which are growing fast but for some reason many of them are yellowy-green and I get it. They ain't wet, they're getting all the same bites, growing in the same dirt, etc. They aren't all yellow-ish, but many are and really like home of my other plants, getting all the same treatment, are yellow at all, really.

I'm trying to recall how my Zapotecs were early in the grow last year. I know they ended up the right color: healthy, dark green with s beautiful sheen. But I don't recall what they looked like still in cups. I think that, last year, my whole grow looked funky. So maybe yellowy Zapotecs stand out more obviously this year?

But overall, I think your grow looks great. I was just kinda surprised that you appear to be going the same tribulation with the Zaps..

Rain rain rain and more rain, plus 50ish F temps. Brought the bonnets and bhuts inside during this mess. The Zaps are looking better. Even soaked from the rain. Might be pH related vs my tap water which is really high pH? I brought in a couple extra Zaps and an Antep. A guy from a local hunting board is coming by for them and i wanted to make sure they are safe.

Herbs got planted. Got some Mexican tarragon this year to try out. I might start doing more herbs out front that are also a bit ornamental too. I got a small patch of surprise lilies that need company and ground cover.

I wasnt going to do Asian long beans this year but found a reasonably priced source for Liana long beans from Southern Exposure. Planted 10 seeds total in peat pots with Burpee's mix hoping to get 5 at most........Wellll all 10 of the damn things sprouted. Seems like everything ive tried in the Burpee seedling starter mix had a really high germination rate. Its coco based and not terribly expensive just for germinating. Liana are a early producer and day neutral. Higher yield than some of the others.

I got 5 huge aji panca in my sill upstairs still. All the 12 seedlings i bought online too. The Joes Long Cayenne is now passing up the pancas. I got 5 more nice aji panca and 2 more Bolsa de Dulce downstairs i cant give away. I may just say screw it and plant the Bolsa in the same raised bed with the sugar rush peach. Keep one isolated on the front porch for seed stock in case i like them.

What a PITA week this has been....The only bonus is all the grass i started from seed is taking off. The Rhino EZ-straw i laid down is holding well. The crap is expensive but worked.

The upstairs crew i have to move from east to west windows DAILY. The 5 on the right are my best aji panca. Big one in the middle is Joe's Long Cayenne from Juanitos

Bonnets i brought inside before temps dropped. Didnt want to chance them in the rain and upper 40s.

The weather didnt seem to bother the others too much.

5 more panca i have as backups/extras. First ones are going outside tomorrow.

Couple extra Bolda de Dulce.....Really nice little guys once they start to go.

The Liana beans i sprouted. Totally impressed with the germination rate.

If i like those Bolsa i will be growing them next year too. A tiny bit slow to germinate but they look great once they start to grow. I hope they are somewhat stable and the longer pheno.

Aji panca are from my plant last year. Those are chinense and no problems at all with germination. Not very finicky about anything really. Looked nice since day one.

This year i got high hopes for Sugar Rush Peach and Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion. One of Juanitos JPGS took a pretty good beating in shipping from the cold. Lost pretty much all the leaves but tons of tiny ones are coming up now. (middle tray...back row...far right) Really hard to see it but all the plants in that shipment got some cold damage.

Tray on the far left is from CCN. I have not been that impressed with their seedlings the last 2 years. Not horrible just kinda ho hum seedlings. Their panca i got last year did end up very nice. Pops wanted the hottest peppers i could find so i ordered some. I was all out of room to start Reapers from scratch and i saw the Dragons Breath too. Grabbed 2 hot wax types to round out to the 6 plant minimum.

The aji panca are all getting their own raised bed. I want max yield this year. I may cram 9 in there but 5 for sure. I really want to try smoking some of them for a couple hours before drying. The Aleppo and the brown bhuts will get the other 2 raised beds. 5 in each. I was going to go with fabric for the Aleppo like last year but want to try them in ground.

Another night of light rain but the sun came out and its warm.

Zaps are shaking off that yellowish tint slowly...2 Mucho Nacho in the rear are doing awesome

Only have a couple extras left for 4 or 5 pots and 10 more for 2 raised beds. Storms pounded us last nite.

Pancas love their bed. I still have 5 backups i can probably think about using now.

The Aji lane of Sugar Rush Peach and the 2 on top are the Bolsa De Dulce.

4 on left C Reaper x2 and and CCN Dragons Breath x2
4 in middle all Juanitos seedlings...JPGS x2, Scotch Brain and Scorpion
3 on right...2 TFMs and a MWCH Naglah Brown
2 in background are overwintered Aji Arnaucho from TGCM seeds.

Crazy JPGS is loaded with blooms already and has a pod or two. I still got one more JPGS that had cold damage in shipping. Its really starting to look nice though

The 2 Bolce de Dulce are starting to really kick in gear. Growth over the last few days is very noticeable and they look super happy. I brought up the last one from downstairs and put it in a window sill with a shot of some Happy Frog veggie and tomato nutrients.

The Aji Oro and my best TFM are looking pretty good too. The rest of the plants in pots are ok considering all the rain we have gotten lately. The Scotch Brain and Scorpion seem to be dealing with it better than most of the ones in hard pots.

The plants in ground are dealing with it slightly better but you can tell its still rather wet. All the nutrients sofar have been dry and slower release, such as crab shell, kelp meal and the Happy Frog. Hopefully the rains didnt hit them too hard. I ran out of kelp meal but the Happy Frog is pretty full and it has kelp meal in it. I knew i should have bought more when it was 85% off

Hope your weather turns quickly for you.

The rain shouldn't hit the dry nutes too hard.
It should just help spread them in the soil as
they break down with the moisture..

Funny thing is....the raised beds only got milorganite and dolomite lime. I added that way before any planting. The aji pancas are beautiful. Each hole did get a handful of kelp meal but thats it. The jalapeno patch had a compost pile on it for months and the soil feels killer yet the plants are not as green as they should be. Each hole also got kelp meal and i spread some dolomite lime there too. The 2 Mucho Nacho and the 2 Anteps look a bit better than the Zapotecs.

On a side note, Mr Squirrel has not found my Early Girl i put in front of the house. The little shit ate nearly every mater i had last year in back of the house. The plant looks awesome and already has about 6-8 small maters on it too.

The Jalpeño compost bed may have used up its
nitrogen breaking down the compost, so plants
not as green as you'd like.

Took my extras and late starts outside. None were really critical to the grow. A few though are nice enough to figure out some place to put them.

But first, this is Stumpy. He is a Jays Peach Ghost Scorpion from Juanitos that did not like his shipping. Pics do not do him justice. He looks great and will be getting a nice pot soon.

5 Extra aji panca,... a couple each of, Thunder Mountain, Big Jim Heritage and Tekne Dolmasi...I will probably only make a good effort for the Thunders and the Big Jims.

Extra Bolsa de Dulce i plan to isolate in case i really like them.

The best TFM and all the bonnets for that matter are starting green up better. New growth is looking pretty good.

All my sugar rush peach are trying to pod up on me.

My Early Girl experiment on the front porch. Hoping the damn squirrel dont find it. Plant is a STUD!!! Cost me $14 at Costco in a big pot with basket. Tag says its from BloomIQ. Ive had great luck with a few of their peppers in the past also. She is dining on Happy Frog veggy/tomato with some additional pharmaceutical grade calcium acetate.

No, i actually grow them right there but with drip pans under them. Most of mine are still in temporary spots until this weekend. Its a good spot and easy to cover with burlap if needed, such as if hail is in the forecast.

Stumpy got his nice huge pot yesterday and my Naglah brown is starting to look much better. (Pics later)

You know when you go to garden shops you got a 50/50 chance SOMETHING is gunna follow you home right? Well pops mentioned Super Chiles a few times and we almost always grow them sooooooooooooo.

Stumpy's new digs. Thats a huge pot. That saucer is over 16" across the bottom. Got him isolated in the front of the house. It does get a little less light there but just a couple feet from the wall is sunny most of the day.

Naglah Brown is finally starting to look good.

I could not stand seeing all those SRP pods on plants that small plus i was curios so i removed the two on the lower plant.....Interesting flavor too for a green pod. Did not taste that green and had a sweetness to it. SOLID upper cayenne heat level.

Bolsa de Dulce are just starting to flower now. I think im going to really like these guys if they keep growing like this. SRP went in pots sooner.

Best TFM vs the others and the Naglah (right pot) which now looks much better.

Dreadies are shaking it off but all this rain is making it tough.

Nothing seems to phase this aji arnaucho other than it refuses to grow UP. Podding up sorta nice though

And non pepper firsts for me....Mexican Tarragon.
