Start a Grow Log for your growing season.
Me and the wife got into the game a little late, but seeing as how we are in Florida, the plants will get lamp light the 2 weeks (lol) it gets cold. We have a few young plants that are starting to produce, and a bunch of seeds (THANK YOU SO MUCH to Durham Bull) we are trying to germinate. The down side about where we are is the ground is sand. Not a sand/soil mix, just straight sand. Most of our plants are currently in 3-5 gallon buckets and doing well! Firstly, our container plants..... Jalapenos! Basil....we have a ton drying currently. Cabbage Bell peppers Cayenne and Habaneros Continued.... Thai Sun Orange Trinidad Scorpion....one lonely pod. Has been kinda tough getting this little guy to produce. This is our...
Hi all... Here is my grow log for the 2012 season... I will try and post pics as often as I can. To start with I needed some source of heat to try and germinate my seeds with better results than last year, that said i figured i would put one of my old water bed heaters to good use. Took some leftover wood and stuff from some jobs i had done, and made a heated bed to start seeds on. I framed a 24x42 box, added plywood for a bottom, laid a piece of 3/4 in. radiant barrier foam on the bottom, followed by a piece of cement backer board on top of that. Then I secured the thermostat from the heater, laid in the heater and the temp probe... Then I proceeded to put in 2 bags of sand for a thermal mass to help regulate how often the heater...

These were started indoors around early Feb in jiffy pellets with a heat mat, then transferred to plastic cups under a normal fluorescent shop light. The plants grew a bit leggy(some more than others) and some of them outgrew their shelf space two months before the last frost(Mid May...

Found the first rocoto blossom this morning - whooooot! I overwintered ten plants. They were doing absolutely GREAT until this spring. Came out of my bedroom one morning to find a plant dead. I am telling you, the plant looked FINE the day before. In fact, it had already started flowering and even putting out pods. But no, dead. Then another got hit - two down. These were both annums, so I don't know if that made a difference or not, though I can see that size may have been a factor. At any rate, several of the other plants got hit, as well. Only two of the ten didn't show signs of any problems. Lost one douglah, too. However, the other plants that got hit ended up pulling through. Individual branches would suddenly die, but the main...

My first ever grow log. Not new to growing .. just new to growing super hots ... and my mouth gets watery! Want to start early and get good sized plants ready for spring. If they are a good size, I'll probably sell the extra plants at local farmers market. Will start indoors in grow tents with 600 watt lights. Roughly 170 peppers to start. Might germinate another 100 at the beginning of the year. Any input or feedback will and is greatly appreciated. A big thank you to capsidadburn, Hendrix1326 and chad s for their generosity!
I'm trying to get a head start on the upcoming season. This is my first year growing superhots, so I'm hoping the early start will help me get some pods, despite having a pretty short season. I started one plant each of Trinidad Scorpion Yellow (first pic) and Trinidad Scorpion Red (right side of 2nd pic) at the end of October and aside from a minor (luckily) aphid attack on my TS Yellow, they're doing fairly well. I think I need to hit them with a little calmag soon though. I planted a bunch of Chinense seeds on 1/10 and 1/11: 7 Pot Jonah (3) 7 Pot Red (4) Yellow 7 Pot (2) Yellow Trinidad Scorpion (2) Trinidad Scorpion Morouga (3) Madballz (3) Bhut x Douglah (3) Goronong (2) Bhut Jolokia (3) Chocolate Bhut Jolokia (3) Dorset...
Up until now I have only sowed seeds outside. I never babied the seeds--they went straight into the ground. This year I decided to get a head start and grow indoors. I have been growing using sunlight and just recently amended the sunlight with a cheap light. The sunlight isn't really long enough for good growth it seems. So far the cheap light has done well. I had a Thai dragon pepper that was a pale green and it has become more green and healthy looking. Early on it lost two leaves . It was either from lack of light, overwatering, or overfertilizing. I replanted it and it did not drop any more leaves but remained a pale green until I amended the sunlight with the new cheap light. The sun can heat up the room to 88 max so far. During...
Hi Guys, moved in my house un july 2011, so in 2012 That will be my first Big garden of pepper and 1st try at Superhots! Here's some pics of my actual setup (cleanup to do) and some pic of my germination seeds. Listing to come but you can read what is in the Germ Chamber :) ) about 4 of each seeds per "jiffy"
My first time growing peppers was last spring. I bought two young plants that were labeled 'Trinidad Scorpion' from a local reputable nursery. It turned out that they were actually Caribean Reds. Still hot as shit, but not what I expected. So this year I wanted to do it right and start from scratch. This time, I got (from left to right) Yellow Bhuts Caloros Anaheims Cowhorns some random Indian Chili variety all from PepperJoe. So far in 2 weeks, they have all sprouted except for the Bhuts which have no activity (I'm heard they take a long time?). Excuse the blurry pics, my camera is messed up. So thats where the magic will happen. I'm planning on only having about 5 of each, and possibly just keeping the Bhuts indoors or in pots...
Hey guys, I just started growing chilies, and I love it!I been growing veggies for a few years, but I wanted to up the ante. So I picked up a Hab at the Local Armstrong Nursery a few weeks ago (Mid April 2012).When I got home, I decided to look in to it further and find out what else is :hot: Here is my *Out Dated List, will be Updated soon* Supers: Brain Strain -never germinated Brown Devil's Tongue Dorset Naga Bombay Morich Manzano B.B. Okay, I'm going to *actually* try and update things this year. My first flats will start tomorrow (chinenses and a few other long-seasons), and the rest, minus a few herbs/tomatoes, will go in later this week or early next. I'm going to try and be better about keeping records this year, too. We'll see how it goes with my limited time, but I'm hopeful. So...without further blab, here's a tease of a few batches of seeds soaking in a seaweed/superthrive solution over night. My current grow list looks like this: Peppers (Hot) 7-Pot White (OP) Aji Angelo Aji Omnicolor BAC593605 Bahamian Finger (Direct Sourced!) Barro do Robiero Billy Biker Jalapeno Bonda ma Jacques Broome CA438633 Cheiro do Norte Chocolate Bhut Jolokia Chocolate...
here we go my first grow log. im a bit late starting this so this first post will cover the last couple of months. I was a bit unorganised this year and didn't get my seeds germinating as early as i should have. So to give me some other pepper types and something to do while i waited for my seeds i bought a few seedlings from the local nursery. IIRC they were from left to right Red Hot Cayane, Caysan, 3 Orange Habs, Yellow Sweet, Hungarian Hot Wax and the 2 little pots are Orange Habs Now heres my Jiffy pucks just after the first few popped. Now i thought the peppers in the first pic in front of the shed wall had quite a good spot, they disagreed, aparently they thought it was too hot there, so i made them their own garden...
Hello all! I'm new around these parts, but I've been lurking around the forums ever since I figured out how to eradicate the aphids from my overwintered plants by reading Pepperguru's guide in the main growing section. I've been hooked ever since. This will be my log for 2012, but I'm playing a little bit of catch up because every time I come here I wind up salivating over someone else's photos rather than posting my own. I started back on February 1st, so hopefully this will get me back on track. Last year I had a pretty basic season, with just a few small jalapenos, sweet cayennes, Hungarian waxes, California Wonders, and one lonely chocolate habanero that I bought as a plant at a greenie festival up in Rochester. I grew them all...
Hello guys, I thought I will show some pictures even if nothing there is really impressive, it's just a start for us, it's been going on since one or 2 month and... I think we did a little too much chillies... Right now I am growing: - Habaneros - Cayenne - Thaï chillis - Chiltepin - Bhut Jolokia - Fatalii - Numex Suave Orange - Maules Red Hot - Poinsettia - Uba Tuba I do also grow couple of "non-chillies" stuff, but I do not know if that really feets in the grow log. Here are some in the big green house (don't mind the corn down there, it's not in our allotment, and there is some tomatoes too) Some more here (and some Crystal lemon cucumbers down there) And due to a lack of pots, here are some more (well with some...
Greetings Everyone, This here gloging will more or less be a collection of images of my greenery and green tech, little bit different than a chronological grow log, but certainly along the same lines! Ill start with this Picked up 8 of these guys today, letting them have free reign of the greenhouse. Never been a huge fan of the green anole, until I realized they would be the perfect addition to the latter! So far, they favor the mack daddy pitcher plant hangin from the ceiling, there is a few pepper lovers though :) Alex

Hi everyone, last year I tried to grow some of my favourite chillies in a mix of coconut coir and perlite, tried to compare the results, learn from mistakes and do some experiments. Overall I'd call it quite successful and more clean than usual soil growing, and mostly with very early harvest that actually started in June and continued in ~2 week cycles until end of October. This was the main reason for me to almost completely abandon the standard growing in soil, and fully focus on hydroponics, using coconut+perlite mix, drip irrigation and indoor growing for first 3 months continued in greenhouse (for the top plants) and/or open sky terrace once temperatures allow that for the rest. I plan to share with you the progress of my...

Hi guys, finally I'm here to start my 2012 Glog. :halo: You can find my list here http://www.thehotpep...post__p__574100 First of all, I would like to share with you some pict of my "hardware" installation. This is my double-floor Lightbox last floor with 55Wx2 bulbs, 6500K upper floor using a LED Panel 120W. Hereunder my Germbox Each plastic box contains small polyester balls filled with water to keep an high level of moisture. With the sand I filled every small case (the bed of my seeds) and created a regular grid with toothpickes. each slot will contain a different number of seeds to germinate. Seeds have been pre-soaked in a NaCl solution (20% per litre) for 3 days. Operations started the end of January and... ..this is my...
After disappearing for the last 6 months I have finally got time now to start growing some chile. I did not have the time to start any plants from seed this year but I did get a nice selection from Cross Country Nurseries, The Chile Pepper Institute, and my local Nursery (OK OK I also bought a few from Lowes). Here they are relaxing under the eaves on their way to being hardened. This is the fist year I had no issues with it. I think the main difference is the lack of wind. It has been a nice warm spring with only 4 or 5 really windy days. I just finished getting all my plants in the ground yesterday. Here are a few shots... Here is the overall shot The area of the beds on the right with no straw have too much shade to plant...
Cleaning out the raised beds this weekend. Got the trees trimmed up a little to let a bit more light through. Good start so far. Two days and counting and these boys, along with a few others will be going in the ground. Thinking of putting one or two in a pot for kicks. If I didn't just go ahead and start this now, I wouldn't have the before and after effect. So here goes! Hoping there aren't 100 days over 100 degrees this summer! Bottom to Top: Clover (son's), three African Fish Peppers, two Sante Fe, Mucho Nacho, Mammoth, 7 Pot Brown Bonnet Shaped (from AJ)
I had actually started my grow a while back but I had phone in which the camera was not working. Well I got a new one so I was able to take some photos. Better late than never. Everything is still indoors since it's still a bit to cold to put them outside. Lets start with the new plants for this year. Mini pepper forest consisting of black cobras, bhuts, choc habs, trinidad perfume, aji lemon (the "skyscrapers") heres a mix of yellow scorps, butch t, yellow/choc/white/purple bhuts. these were started later than the forest except for the aji's and cobras, which were the first to germ so they had a head start Now the overwinters (now have come back for the 2nd time after a winter war with some mice) continued from another...

It all started in Feb. when I bought myself a birthday present of eight different types of hot pepper seeds (115 seeds total) due to the outragous cost of peppers in the market. I took a standard heating pad and a 72 compartment seeding tray two types of soil (MG Seed Starter & MG Organic Potting Soil). The seeding tray had 8 tray's of 9 cups so I did one tray of each variity of pepper and did 3 cups of each tray with the seed starter, 3 of the organic and 3 of a 50/50 Mix of both soils to test germination rates. I tested the seeding tray on the heating pad for 24 hours to accurately maintain a 85 to 87 degree soil temp and planted my seeds on the 23rd of Feb. On the 28th of Feb. or less than 6 days later my first 3 sprouts (White...

Well im kind of new around here, this isnt my first time growing hot peppers, but it is my first time growing them in containers. I bought a dozen plants from cross country nursery, and they came in this past thursday. I bought 2 Red savinas, 2 Mustard Habaneros, 2 Yellow Scotch Bonnets, and one Devils Tongue. I also bought 2 Japanese Takanotsume's, 2 Kung pao Hybrids, and one Thai Red hot pepper ( not the small ornamental, these are larger) I decided to go with the global buckets design to have these somewhat portable. I have lucked out and started my graphic design career finally after graduating a year ago, and will be hopefully moving closer ( less than 30 miles ) and will want to take these with me if possible. if not, no...
Being a chef, I have little free time. most of what i do have I spend w/ the little lady, over attending to my peppers and other vegetables and of course here! It has been said Pics or it didnt happen, well here's proof that it did, last year was my first ever season growing, this is the second, unfortunately I had no time start a traditional seed to pod glog, but here is a shot nonetheless. these are the last 40 or so that still need to go into their final homes a pic of the chile patch out front
well for my first year of growing peppers its not starting off too good.My white habs turned out to be a c. annum possibly wrinkled old man. my black pearls turned out to be black cubans and the rest of my plants are producing blooms but no peppers. So far the only thing eating anything off my plants are the caterpillars.
