Guru's Glog 2012

Is it that time again already? Feels like yesterday I was picking final harvests, disonnecting drip lines out in the garden and digging up pepper plants for the winter. Where does the time go?

Anyhow, I see people are already in full swing here on THP. What a lovely site. I'll be the first to admit, I'm running a little late this year, but I have an excuse I'm prepared to live with....

:P I needed a vacation! Well that, and a good friend of mine asked if I wanted to open up a restaurant in Thailand. Who says no to that? Not I.

We had a great time. Its paradise, and very cheap. Above all, as a chili head, Thai food is a gift from God himself. I ate better and fresher food than you could ever get in the US, for pennies a meal. The trip was awesome. I think Im even suffering from seperation anxiety...lol I couldn't even begin to go into all the things that happened on this trip, without this starting to sound like more of a blog than a GLOG, so I'll spare you guys for now.

Anyway, down to business. Before I left, I started a 72 cell super hot tray and pulled the mothers from last year outside.

The lady bugs went to work on the mothers, and I felt confident that Mrs. Guru could take care of the germination while I was away.

Now, I'd be lying if I said I never worried for a second while I was away. I had already started my seeds a week or two later than usual and now I was going to be gone while they were supposed to be "born"....lol but I knew the better option for my sanity was to let go, remember I was on vacation and not think about the seeds. Im glad I did, because the ole lady did ok! :P

I got back, germ rates were near 100% and it was on to potting up!

When I got back, this is what the garden looked like. Lots of work to be done.

Things are starting to shape up and I got all my tomatoes, red bells, golden bells, and sweet bananas planted.

I plan on filling up the entire garden space this year. Something I have yet to do. As well as throw some super hots (Including that Brain Strain) into some massive air pruning pots on the back patio! Gonna be a butt busting year. Stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by

Can't wait to see the Mrs. Fatalii back to former glory. That thing was huge last season if I'm not mistaken.

I love her. Yeah man, don't get me wrong, there's nothing like sowing the seed but overwintering has its perks FOR SURE

Its wild. I already loved Thai food before I visited and thought I could cook it fairly well. Knowing what I know now about the ingredients and pallete profiles of the different regions, I had a lot to learn! But learn I did, and now after being back, I've gone around "thai restaurants" here in the states....it makes me cry. Time to hit up the asian market.

We had a blast

Rich,
That's really awesome.....I bet you have some good stories to share...

Nice clean-up on the garden, it helps to have the type of lay-out that your garden has.

"Sweet Bananas" sounds pretty cool........OW's survived the off season nicely.

Good luck with your gardens and your other ventures

Greg

Good to see you back in action guru. You have made great contributions to this site and helped countless. That fatalii mother is by far the coolest plant I have seen here. Glad to hear you enjoyed the vacation. Hoping I can get away for one next year.

Got some healthy seeds from that fatalii mother growing right now. Man, I have just added Thailand as the #1 destination I must visit. Looks great! Were those mushrooms of the psilocybin variety on the board? $6 bucks a night! Beautiful architecture, incredible food, amazing landscapes... Damn. Oh and your gardens look good too. :)

Cool photos of Thailand. You're right, Thai food's a gift from the Gods, love it.
Used to live in Bangkok in the 90's. beautiful beaches, people are so friendly.
Are the Koh Phangan full moon parties still going on?? Crazy sh*t.

Thanks Greg! Nice to see you stopping by. The sweet bananas and cherry tomatoes are for my kids :) They asked me to plant them something they could go into the garden and pick without being set on fire...lol

Thanks for the kind words Prodigal. You should really try and get away. It puts things into perspective for oneself in ways that you can't achieve through the everyday hustle and bustle, 9-5.
So that’s what a real vacation looks like!!
Nice!!
I think this was more like what one would call, "a spiritual journey" rather than a vacation:)

Yeah dude! SE Asia is where its at. Its all very cheap and you can't beat the location in terms of geography. Yep, Blue Meanies went into the tea. Its sooo weird...while we were in Chiang Mai in the north, no one even wanted to say the word "ganja" as its super illegal in that country. However, as soon as we go to the islands in the south, it took a 20 min motorcycle ride around the island to find numerous signs for many bars that openly sold "different menu items"...lol Infact, as as soon as we found this one place Mong Bar in Koh Lanta, they flipped their main menu over to the back side that said "your ticket to the Moon" how could we decline the offer? That would've been rude... ;)

We aren't really into the touristy Koh Phangan thing, but the full moon parties are still going on VERY strong all around the country. This year there were 55000 people on Koh Phagnan! Our little celebration at Mong Bar in Koh Lanta was worthy enough in its own right. The quiet, lazy islands are my kind of thing for sure.
Looks like you had your share of fun for the year...and mine and 3 or 4 other people's too. lol
Welcome back
Thanks for the welcome! We had a blast! Honestly, the craziest part of the trip was when the 8.9 earthquake hit. That story is for another time though! :)

 ............

Dude......

Those Thailand pictures are absolutely incredible!! Looks like you had a ton of fun, I bet the food was freaking amazing. Those beach pictures are jaw dropping! Glad you had a good trip man. I'd love to travel there! I'm glad I stumbled onto your glog, way to start one huh! Good to have you back. The mothers and seedlings all look great. Your already outside too! Good stuff.. Looking forward to following your glog Rich. Hope all is well with you my friend, btw, I'm growing some ButchTs and Bhuts from you.. they're doing great :) Thanks again bud.

Brandon

I love the way you grow, looking forward to following your progress this year! :) Thinking of trying out a monster smart pot, although I don't know if I will go as large as 60 ga! Beautiful pics!!

I know you use Seabird Guano, can I ask how much you add to your mix? Really curious how much you would add to such a large smart pot.

Thanks!
Melissa

Wow Guru, that is so cool! I would find it really hard to ever leave Thailand...

I dig the #1 nursery pots you've got there. I finally discovered those at Home Depot a few days ago, and grabbed 50 of them...They're already full of soil and chile babies...

I remember last year seeing your black plastic weed prevention measures, and thought "Well that's the way to do it..." What I can't remember is why the heck I didn't do it! :banghead:

It's good to see you back!

Gary
