"I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!"

The fishing was great, the best it's been at this location in years. There is a dam wall about 400m upstream (left) from here. They started releasing a lot of water only a few days earlier, which usually makes the fishing quite challenging.
A nice Brown.
Another nice Brown.
All in all, over about four days, three Brown and two Rainbow Trout were caught between four fishermen using hard bodied plastic lures.

That's cool that you have family in Melbourne, I live 40 minutes drive from Melbourne CBD. Let me know if you’d ever like me to send them a package of fresh pods.Pr0digal_son said:I have a massive family in Melbourne.
Are their trout in Lake Eildon?? You might be able to fish below the dam in the tailwaters for large fish, that is where our big trout reside. It's great to see a body of water in that area stay cool enough for trout.

There are Trout in the Lake, but I've never fished there. The spot we camp at is on private property, and not far downstream from the pondage (dam) wall. We camp at this spot 1-2 times per year, and is right on the river as you can see in the pics.
The water was cold, and I mean really cold. They were releasing water from the pondage, and of course the water that gets released comes from the bottom of the lake on the other side. It doesn't get warmed by the sun at all. I have been ocean diving in the middle of winter in a 3mm wetsuit where I could last 3hrs. This was no comparison. I'd guess the water temp to be below 10deg C. It was quite hot at the time, I did go for a swim but couldn't stay in for very long.

I've caught fish over 50cm (20") from this stretch of river, and I'm sure there are bigger, much wiser fish to be had.Pr0digal_son said:
Bottom fed is the ticket. I bet there are some big fish near the release.
Some of them are in Carlton North, and areas around the city, and a couple are in Perth now. I definitely will let you know about the pods, one is a spice head.

This fish fought harder than anything this size that I’ve ever caught. As soon as my wacky rigged Senko worm hit the water, it dropped like a heavy brick. It took me a while to realize that I had caught a fish as I thought the hook hit the bottom of the lake as I was reeling in. The fish fought like crazy the entire time I was bringing it in.
