AJs 2012 Season - A Pictorial Discussion

I am getting a one day jump on last season...today is my 2012 season start...

The Germinator has been cleaned, I am using new trays for seed starting and Hoffman's Seed Starting Mix as my grow media...

If any of you decide to use Hoffman's Seed Starting Mix, be patient, it takes as much as 24 hours pre-soak to get this light weight mix totally wet...I have said it before and I will say it again...this is the cleanest seed starting mix I have ever used....clean and light weight means better root growth IMO..

All circuits and systems are a go on the germinator...am stabilizing the temperature for the next 24 hours...as you can see, the upper box is about 93F and the lower box is 85F...I have to vent the top to let both chambers reach the same temperature...

something tells me this is going to be another hot summer....close to record heat again...so the season will go as mother wants it to...I am learning each year how to change my grow techniques and am adapting to North Texas...

Do you bother isolating your seed pods or do you just pick the best looking pods off of the plants?

these aren't isolated and I really don't bother since I am not selling seeds...these are from a cross anyway I think because of the pod shape of the parent last year so these are probably F2s

Pasta sauce from just picked home grown maters. Got me licking my chops AJ.

Congrats on the spring harvest. Weather has given me my first ever ripe pods in June here. A few Lemon Drops, a yellow Scotch Bonnet and a Jamaican Red Squash pepper.

They sure are real beauties. Last year I went through the effort of isolating a few, but am thinking next year I may just grow out seeds from the best non-isolated pods plus the intentional crosses I'm making. I'm slowly becoming less of a tight ass and realizing it's fun just to see what happens. For example one of my plants was supposed to be a 7 Pot Brown Bonnet Shaped, darn thing turned out to have purple tinged leaves and somewhat purple pods... but it is one of my favorite plants now.

@ armac - that is Ike...would you believe 12 months ago he looked like this...he weighed 52 lbs, had heart worms and other parasites...makes me sad to see him in this shape and now he weighs about 94, is clear of heart worms and all other parasites and is very smart...

The smooth 7 Pot Browns appear to have a thicker skin than a Douglah, possible?

we have actually had a cool down the past few days...high was only 90 yesterday...but the next week it is 99-99--99-99-99-etc...and night lows are approaching 80....
