thanks for volunteering, but the farmhands will probably pick this patch in 2-3 hours...half a day at the most I'm thinking...he can pull as many hands as he needs to get the job done...

honestly can't say what they taste like green...never tried a green one..

Holy frejoli bat man. I may need to check my pants. I kneel down to the Pepper Gods. That is truly amazing. Can't wait to see some close ups! :fire: Are yuu gonna flood the asian market and bring down my stock in Trinidads or what?

you may be correct...just don't know how many others are growing scorpions in quantity

I started thinking about this project back in December when the newspaper and television station here in Fort Worth interviewed me...then in January, I decided what the heck so I contacted my cousin and we made our agreement...it is pure luck that I already had these growing when Hippy and company got the record...I am proud of the Aussies...

I think the asian markets couldn't hold a candle to the American market this year...

good question...trying to do the calculations in my head hurts...generic sauce that is goodnhot would probably yield somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500 cases of 5 ounce coozies and each 5 oz coozie would have the equivalent of three peppers in it...this is, of course a very very rough guestimation...

here is a pic of some of the pods for my seedstock for next years crop...I picked these Wednesday morning...the largest pods weigh 15 gms and the smaller ones are about 7 gms...I would say 9-10 gms on the average

All the pictures and the video are fantastic. What variety Scorpion is it? You'll have to let us know what grocery chain(s) he sells those to as I bet they'll make it around the country. Those will be some pods worth buying just for the seeds! Beautiful job AJ!

Thanks bigt...I don't know what to call them...I got them from another member in Trinidad in the Fall of 2007 and have been selectively growing them since...

If I were to name the strain I would have to call it the North Texas Strain I suppose or the NTS for short...it's still basically a Trinidad Scorpion above all else though...I won't try and name the strain until it is definitely consistant across at least 95% of its offspring...which will take a few years...
 
AJ, the pod shapes you're showing are perfectly consistent with the Butch T strain I grew in '06 and beyond. If you're getting every pod on the plant to get these shapes, you've done great selection. I'm guessing as you said, these are the 'best' pods for seed selection. The variety never was very stable with respect to pod shape, but very stable for heat levels (off the charts)..

What all have you been selecting for AJ? Looks like pod shape, since they all have the tails, and production I'm sure. Anything else? Any specific pod shape beyond those with tails?

Trinidad Scorpion seems to have far more pod shape variation than most varieties, it would be nice to get a strain with more uniform pod shape. :cool:

I wish every pod was the same...but like you say, the shapes are inconsistant...but only the best ones will be saved for my planting next year...(praying we make a profit this year)

Pod shape and size, heat...I try and taste each one I use for seedstock...and yes, my tongue is burning for days during seed collection...

It seems that the corolla of the flower is stronger on some pods than it is on others...IMO it is genetic and some of the plants have a DNA series that makes it that way...some of the pods have a partial corolla left on them and the peppers are a wierd shape...like this...

thanks a bunch....with me, its kinda like "if I knew then what I know now" things...I was raised on a farm about 2 miles down the road from this field...

Had to post this picture...this was taken in my scorpion patch 11 July 2011...the plants are taller than I am....first harvest was a success, however, shipping those pods turned out to be a disaster...I was about 10 days late harvesting so I am on my way back to Ms today for the second harvest...
