An great example of greed!!

I just read an article today that showed how 2 employees of Autonomy software getting arrested for embezzlement and fraud in the tune of $2.6 million. It was a payroll clerk and financial analyst that had been writing checks to themselves over a span of 4 years. Apparently the company had no clue and would have probably never had found out. The problem is the payroll clerk that was involved in the scam got fired and tried to apply for unemployment. When the payroll manager received the claim it showed her annual salary being $449,740 a year when it should have been $63,000 a year which brought up a red flag and investigation that lead to her arrest.

Are you F#$%#% kidding me??? As it is the "clerk" is making $63k and some how manages to get fired from a job that allowed her to steal 2.6 million?? I mean come on if you have a job and have been stealing $500k a year for 4 years how on earth would you allow yourself to get fired??? Ok that's fine people are stupid, but seriously how stupid and greedy do you have to be to then try and get $500 a month in unemployment after you just stole $2.6 million??

They are being held on $1 million in bail.

What's sad is that it seems the "clerk" was the single point of failure...meaning obviously no one audited the work done or monies paid out except the clerk! Bad business!

Yeah tell me about it. The only reason I read the article, is because I buy there software... It's no wonder the prices for annual maintenance went up last year!!!

The article mentioned that the company admitted they probably wouldn't have found out EVER had she not tried and get un-employment.

my grandfathers always told me to "stay away from liars and thiefs"

I am of the opinion that if your job doesn't make you enough money for your lifestyle, then you need another job...

Since $63 K a year sounds wealthy to me, I cant imagine why it occurred to them to steal in the first place.

hahah $63k for a software company in the silicon valley is almost minimum wage! The problem is the cost of living is soooo high. One of my first real jobs I worked for a company and our IT director in the silicon valley who was making around $600k was arrested and charged for stealing by hiring fake consultants who never did any work. Not sure how much he made out with, but I know he got 10 years in Federal Prison and only served 4 after good behavior.
