That's why, if you look closely you will see a fly screen attached on the inside of the metal screen.....

We Aussies are thinkers.....
 
The security mesh is more to stop the fly screen ripping on the door with people pushing the door open and closed all the time. Also allows you to lock the door but have the airflow of an open door, while the flies and other aussie stinging type insects are kept out.

You will be hard up to find a house in Australia without fly screen on all the windows and doors.

Do you guys have giant mosquitos down there.. What is the most annoying pest you have to deal with.

Actually we do get large mosquitos in some spots. I've seen them up to an inch in size...:shocked:, They buzz past you like a 747..:lol:

But in summer the small standard black flies are the problem along with normal mosquitos!!! The flies can get so thick at times that you can have hundreds on your plate of food if you are eating outside

I understand about mosquitoes completely. It's a standing joke that the Minnesota state bird is really the mosquito but they have to tell the tourists that it's the loon. Any state that quit counting at 10,000 lakes is bound to have a bit of a skeeter problem IMO. That said Minnesota is a great place to live if you can handle the frigid temps, the snow and the wind on the prairie..ahh so you gotta be tough to live here it's still a great place.
 
Actually, if you google David Hasselhoff, it's the third pic on google images. Had to resurrect this one from the good ol PMD days!

One must wonder how and why he came to be in this photo. There's an uncomfortable look in his face that screams, "I'm gonna F%$kin kill my publicist!"
