Speaking of disaster preparedness...this is how dumbed-down we have become...

Some potential emergencies could send tiny microscopic "junk" into the air. For example flooding could create airborne mold which could make you sick and an explosion may release very fine debris that can cause lung damage. A biological terrorist attack may release germs that can make you sick if inhaled or absorbed through open cuts. Many of these agents can only hurt you if they get into your body, so think about creating a barrier between yourself and any contamination.
No duh...isn't all of that common sense? I would think anyone who ever took Jr. High Biology would know that.
Is that sentence actually intended for adults? It sounds like language you'd use to teach a grade school kid.
On another note...I had a weird dream where I needed to find a fallout shelter and couldn't find one...
So, today I went and thought about where the old Civil Defense Shelters used to be around here. Can't find any anymore. The last one I knew of was in the old Main Library but it was torn down years ago and rebuilt. Of course, the basement of this apt. building would likely do..it was built in 1889.
So, I looked online..lots of history, no real answers.
( oh, for those of you too young to have ever heard the old CD warning sirens..check this out:

Gah...everything is all FEMA and Gov't crap now.
What happened to being self-reliant in emergencies? Sure, RedCross and local EMS is fine, but if there was a major disaster like when Mt. Rainer finally blows...where would ya go?
Maybe I'll just take my old Industrial CPR and outdoors skills and join the local
CERT.
