BEER!

Finally got around to buying a beer that I've eyed for a few years. Always wanted to try it but didn't wanna spend the $11 for a 6-er.

I've had the Rogue's Dead Guy Ale and the Santa's Private Reserve but never their Mocha Porter.

Edit: Heh realized what was on that mail pile and blacked it out. Whoops!

Glad I tried it though. Smells of Coffee and Chocolate with hints of Vanilla and very faint grape. Taste is very VERY smooth with light carbonation. Almost a creamy texture and a slight bitterness at the end. The coffee bean taste is very evident and somewhat overpowers the chocolate taste.

It really makes me have to go buy the Brooklyn Chocolate Stout once I knock out a few more of the beers that my fridge is stocking. Still have about 6 or 7 varieties in there that I've neglected to finish off cuz I keep buying more.

The other day I purchased the Magic Hat Ourtoberfest. No picture as I just don't care to take one. It was a respectable beer but not nearly on par with the other Oc(k)toberfest beers I've drank this year. Had a front load of the standard Marzen/Octoberfest feel but ended with Magic Hat's standard thin bitterness. I had almost refused to try this one based on my experience with the Magic Hat #9 (aka Not-Quite Pale Ale) that was so bitter it nearly rendered it undrinkable. But the Ourtoberfest was redeeming in it's pleasant flavor. Sort of anyway.

Haven't seen that one around but I must look harder. I've really become a big fan of darker stouts and ales and the like. Have yet to find a dark beer type I hate. So this is truly my beer season. :)

Tonight a nice one for a hot night.

Spoetzl Brewery
Shiner 101 Czech Style Pilsner
ABV: 4.6%

Pours a nice clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice fizzy white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose malty, with some hop notes, and caramel. The taste is sweet, malty, slight hop note, and caramel. Medium body. Drinkable, a very tasty brew on a hot night.

Cheers!

I have a keg of Double Mocha Porter going on tap soon

http://www.bullys-restaurant.com/bottled1.html

Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest-Marzen, Dogfish Head World Wide Stout, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, and some Eagle Rare bourbon to finish off the night
