Lord have mercy!

This is the finest IPA I've had yet. Way better than Pliny the Elder and Lunch.

Any beer barrel aged tends to be too syrupy and concentrated for me. You lose a lot of the properties that make it beer. Hate to say it, but I think it's gimmicky.

I agree with the syrupy/concentrated quality, and have found that I prefer huge imperial porters and stouts without the barrel qualities ...
 
But, I don't agree they are gimmicky ... it's just too much of a PITA and does do something fundamentally different (added bugs and microoxidation (sherry notes)) ...
 
But I'm less in love myself ...
