Bhuter's 2017 Glog

I started my seeds in early February and continued starting seeds until April...just couldn't stop starting new varieties...again. I always take the cheap route and use plain old Miracle-Gro potting soil. It has always worked for me. I also start my seeds in paper towels then transfer them straight to 4 inch pots (I thought they were 3 inch, but they're 4). I use a 125w CFL for lighting and I usually grow around 30 plants. Here's the beginning.

I had crappy soil before this pic and some of these are bare-root transplants. But I did lose one...Chocolate Primo. It just looked funky after transplant.

Here they were just before plant out. Pic taken on May 4...with the addition of a few new seedlings and maters.

Peppers planted out May 10.

Then I ran into the bugs. The flippin' bugs. Judging by the damage, I'm guessing broad mites.

But I soaped then neemed a couple times and things are looking up. I'll have to get a pic of what that plant (Goatsweed) looks like now. This is the latest pic with the addition of the nursery veggies.

That'll probably do it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

About a month away Adam, but there good sized blistered pimply pods, I'm going to pepper bomb a mate so he can review the first ripe one [emoji1] [emoji1]

Yes! See, you're lucky you've got people around you who will eat spice or at least try it once. Around here, people are bland. I'm the only one who'll eat what I grow. Actually, we just got new neighbors, so maybe I'll be in luck.

After seeing your cinder pics, I'm going to grow it starting this fall perhaps. I want to get one or two absolutely huge inside so they are monstrous next year, and that pod looks scary! Are you growing more than 1 plant and if so, are the pods similar?

Yes, I have 4 plants in the garden. 2 plants have pods that are similar. Unripe pods are light green. The plant that this pod came off of looks the most like F1. Unripe pods are dark green on that plant. And the plant I'm most hopeful for has unripe pods that are so light that they're almost yellow. I'm hoping it ripens Caramel...but I've seen light pods turn all colors.

Here are a few pics of my Goatsweed...seeds from Hogleg. Thanks! Man you weren't kidding about the stature of this plant. These aren't great pics, but it was topped at about two feet tall and now the bottom side shoots are all the way up to eye level. I'm glad I topped it when you suggested it. Lots of flowers and fruits on it and none of them are blackened. I suspect it's because it's in the shade for part of the day??

You too, eh? Folks outside the Midwest have so little concept when guys like us try to explain that we live in The Land of the Great Bland White Sauce. I have converted a few, but so very few.

Then some of these capsaicin-o-phobes will turn around and slather horseradish on something....

Adam awesome SB7J really nice shaped pods Patrick would be pleased to see those ... the 7pot Cinder can you expand on its parentage please if possible
Oh yes. Sorry. The 7 Pot Cinder is a strain that I crossed in 2015 between Big Black Mama (mother) x Caramel 7 Pot Madballz (father). I grew out F1 last year, isolated seeds and am growing F2 this year. I love SB7J! I got my seeds from Pex. I've never spoken to Patrick, but he's got a terrific cross. Thank you for your kind words!

I'm right there with you. I'm originally from California, so let's just say I was less than happy with the Mexican food here. What's ground beef doing in my burrito in Michigan? Shredded, please...with flavor and heat. Lol.

Looks like you have some killer pods there Adam! Something about brown pods, they seem to hurt more than a Reaper. As for sharing with friends, no one will try the supers at work anymore. I wonder why? :D

I give you credit for eating that pod. Bhut one just has to try what they grow
So right you are, Scott! And thank you! I feel it's only fair that I endure (suffer/enjoy) the torture/pleasure of eating fresh whole pods if I expect others to do the same. Brown pods are scary and intimidating. What I like about the Cinder cross is that there is an initial delay in the onset of heat. So you get to enjoy the flavor for a few seconds before combustion. Also, no gut bomb until later. Sometimes I'll eat a pod and right away it burns all the way down, then just smolders in my stomach. Again, another delay. Strange. Yeah, some people try heat once and are done. Then you try to whip a superhot out on them and they just laugh. Yeah, right. Lol

Dude! That pod was wicked looking that you ate. What an endorphin rush. Thanks for posting!

Those pics of your plants are amazing. You have a great knack for growing. Congrats on the pods.

I didn't grow goats weed this year. I wish I did. Last year I grew about a dozen plants. Had tons of pods. Still have a stash in the freezer and about a half a pound of powder.

I have some Sadabahar seeds I can send you. It's a very hot pepper from India. I know, I've sent it out to others and seen it in seed trains. Couldn't find any seeds for sale that were viable. I tried to germ all my seeds last year and grew a few plants. Harvested all the seeds. So there fresh. Kicking myself in the butt for not growing it.

Thank you very much, Chuck! That pod was blazing hot (even though I only ate half). Being an early pod, I wonder if they'll get hotter as the season progresses.

I'm excited to try the Goats Weed. It sounds like a good one for stir-fry. The Sadabahar sounds very interesting and during a quick search, I was directed to your 2014 glog. Then I googled it and there are sellers using your picture(s) to promote their "products" (seeds). Didn't know if you knew. But yes, the Sadabahar looks like an awesome variety that I'd love to try. Hopefully I have something you're looking for. Thank you, my friend!

Catfish Cooley said the reapers were hotter than the "chocolate booty butters" I think he called them, lol. But he ate three reapers and chased it with a pint or a fifth of fireball. If you guys haven't seen that video you should watch it

Wow! Your right. Caribbean Garden did use my pictures as well as someone else's pic. I almost purchased from them on Etsy. I originally bought from I think Redwood. Last year I tried to get fresh seeds from Reimer. Redwood doesn't have them and Reimer's seeds were not viable. I don't really care about them using my pics, I wish they would have just asked. Makes me wonder if they are even the correct seeds. If one grows them for seeds to sell, one would have there own pics of the plants and pods.

I bet that pod will be hotter. I couldn't tell, but did the seeds look mature? If not you could probably leave it on the plant later and see if it gets hotter. I wouldn't have done a half a pod. LoL Not of that.

The seeds were mature and there were a few bad ones toward the bottom. But I read a few places where they say that a pod is at its hottest right before/as it's ripening. I don't know how true that is, but this pod could've stayed on longer. It was still a bit green.

You're right on the money with the validity of those seeds that they're selling on Etsy. Who knows what they are. But we might all have picture stealers out there. I don't know anything about Reimer, so I'm not sure how reputable they are. But we know they weren't viable.
