BigCedars SuperHot Grow 2012

Hey Everyone :) 2012 will be my first full year being a member of this great forum. So, I figured why not do a start to finish growlog for the first time. Instead of writing down a journal of germination times, flower times, ferts, soils, plant out dates, etc.. like I have in the past.. I'll be using my growlog instead. There will be extra information that I'm sure the seasoned pros won't need to read but I'm sure anyone new to this hobby will enjoy the extra info I'll be posting. I absolutely love checking up on other members growlogs, It's my daily newspaper! I figured as much entertainment you all have given me this year.. It's time to entertain back. Hope you all enjoy.

One more thing..
Before we get started with the grow porn..
A special thanks goes out to anyone that has helped me out since joining THP. I appreciate it more than you know.

Alright, lets get this party started.

So 12/15 and 12/16 were the only time I had to do this unless I wanted to wait until January because of my work and family xmas parties. I have a greenhouse, which means I can harden off earlier than those who don't. I figured.. Why not start a couple weeks early!? So that's what I did :D

I'm using Hoffmans Seed Starting Mix for the first time this year. I can already tell this stuff is as great as people have said. It's so soft and fluffy, I have an extra bag.. I told my wife I'm puttin a pillow case over it and swappin out my pillow  I prepared everything 12/15

982.jpg

985.jpg

If you use hoffmans.. you have to soak it overnight or knead water into the soil in a plastic tub.. which is what I ended up doing after realizing it wasn't absorbing water from my spray bottle.. So after I did that, I prepped 4 72cell flats with soil, put 4 of each seed variety in the cups, let them sit for 8hours.

1003.jpg

After planting 288 seeds by hand.. I've realized that before this season is over.. I need to invent a faster way to do this.. my god that took way to long. All worth it though :)

1006.jpg

My grow closet.

1008.jpg

I'm using hydrofarm heating mats with hydrofarm heat mat thermostats set at 82 (the one further back in the closet is always warmer..)

1007.jpg

One more thing if you have kids.. My daughter use to love to open the closet door.. Now she likes to shut the door..
I came up with a solution for both the problems.
Bricks so she can't shut the door? Check
Dog leash so she cant open the door? Check.
Let the growing begin.

1010.jpg

The List
I would love to have 3 plants of each.. so I'm starting 4 of each hoping for the best. If I have too many.. Well, I'll find room or give them away :hell:

I will be keeping this posted every week with germination rates.

I'm just doing supers for the first time this year.
I have a good amount of non supers that I'm overwintering. I figure with what I'm growing, If something does cross..I'tll most likely be a superhot cross. And you can't go wrong there!

Hey BigC been watchin your glog like a hawk just can't post often enough due to work and family. Love the pictures!! Real healthy looking plants. And the swicth in fert looks like is paying off for you. Sad for your wife it'll only get worse before they finally get outside due to our crap weather. Sadly it looks like we lost all of our overwinter plants due to the power outage. So it looks like were down to 3 plants. We were really lucky on our butch t cause we got it long before it was time to harden off. But it some how survived. Now we got it under grow lights and its bushin out pretty good. We'll harden off in a couple weeks weather permited. We also got 2 from megahot that had slight yellowing on the leaves, but now is looking supper healthy.
As far as giving us a couple...... HELL YEAH WE'LL TAKE SOME!!! DUH!! :D HAHAHA. No seriously i'd appreciate it a lot. And thanks for all the information and help you've given us.

Looking really nice Bro. Another NH grow log to keep me amused through our (so called) winter or best be called slower growing season. Its good to see so many different varieties being grown!

Hey, Brandon! You got it goin' in spades up in WA, bro! Nice work for sure.

Dude, that's an insane stack of 1 gal pots! Interesting square shape.
That plant food should work great - has all the right THP-approved ingredients!

Your plant portraits are very nice! Great looking healthy specimens! That Dorset Naga
is just awesome with the branches poking out, and the OW is just too healthy!

I know I never post here, but, Wow, BC!
You definitely have the green thumb, your plants are beautiful, and your OW is AMAZING!
Nice work.

No way. Scovi! Wow moobs make an appearance in the Grow Log
forum! Great to see you here, Jim!

I'm not growing the Naglahs, but thought they looked interesting in pics I've seen. I've got 12 F2s of the Fatalii x Choco Bhut going as well as 3 more F1 seedlings to produce more F2 seed. Maybe after I get seed from those I can distribute for people who want to grow and help me find the bumpy yellow pod I'm looking for. I'm not sure how recessive these traits are, so I have no idea how many I'll need to grow out. Regardless, after this season I should have enough seed to give it a shot.

Nice dude. If your ever looking for people to help grow those out.. Count me in :)

Hey Aaron. No worries on posting dude, I know the deal trust me. Thanks for the compliments. Our weathers killin me. I was hoping for April being plant out time, I can already tell that's not happening lol. Congrats on the butch t and plants from mega! I'll take inventory here soon and send you a list of plants I have 4 of and you can let me know which are your favorites :) No problem with the info, anytime you guys!

Thanks Trippa. You guys in the SH kept me amused through our winter so what kind of guy would I be if I didn't return the favor? Thanks for the compliments dude. I appreciate it.

Hey Paul! Thanks alot my friend! As much as my plants needed them I was not excited to see 264 gallon pots sitting on my table lol. The new fert is working great so far, I thought for sure something would go wrong and I'd need to repot-up for the second time this season lol.. I sure am happy that's not the case. The 4 headed dorset is one of my favs, it should be quite the producer I hope. Thanks for stopping by man! Hope all is well with you

Excellent update man!
Your plants look amazing!!

Thanks Kevin! Thanks for stoppin by and checkin it out. I hope everythings going well with you and your grow. I haven't had time to check out all the glogs lately :(

The soil that almost killed em a month and a half ago they're now thriving in. Only difference is more perlite, some organic ferts, and older plants. The only thing I can come up with is drainage being the problem or the plants were too young for nute loaded soil.

Also, so far I am very very impressed with the Jobes Organic All Purpose Granular Fertilizer. All the plants have exploded that I potted up 5-7 days ago. The best part? Hopefully I don't have to fertilize anymore, It's all in the soil :)

Well I was going to take a new kitchen floor picture for you guys but they out grew that area. This time they're taking up my back porch lol.

The ones up front were potted up 5-7 days ago. The smaller ones in the back were potted up last night and this morning. They were all pretty close to the same size a week ago. Pretty crazy difference I'd say.

The closet is fillin up quick. I can't raise the lights any further either. Some decent spring weather needs to get its ass over to Washington or I'm gonna have quite the situation here in a month lol.

IMG_1646-1.jpg

With 27 flats now and only being able to fit 12 in the closet at a time rotating them is the only solution I have. I'm not gonna lie. It sucks lol. Gotta do what ya gotta do though. I know I mention space being an issue alot, here's what I'm working with. The plant tanning beds on the left, the ones waiting a turn on the right lol.. Special thanks to my Wife who's putting up with a mini greenhouse against the dining room wall.. Along with taking over the closet.. and window sills.. Btw is there a ghetto growroom thread?

I'll post some individual plant shots here soon!

Great pics BigC. Love the color contrast on your purple TS cross. And you got buds! When we get good weather your plants are going to produce like crazy...well if good weather ever gets here. :(
Alright, couple questions for you, are you doing an overnight soak on your soil prior to transplanting? Read somewhere to put your soil in a tray add water and mash it in. Then let set over night and then use it for transplant the next day. I ask cuz two of my plants need transplanting.
Also, I had to turn on the heater and a fan due to extreme humidity causing mold. Pic1 gave me advice to bottom water rather than top. I haven't been able to because the plants are still moist. Its been 5 days, leaves look great, crisp not wilted, no yellow or sagging. So I know I'm probably good but five days seems like a long time. How often and how much you figure you water yours. Your producing a bit more heat than me I'm sure but figure I could get a general figure.
Thanks man
Aaron

I'm stunned, what an beautifull plants, Brandon! You must be a proud father :D Must admit I'm a bit jealous, mine doesnt look as good as yours

When's the plant $ale?

Lookie dare.........wow that's alot of premium containers, In another month most of those plants will be a ft or so, if not more taller.
Brandon, your plants are really moving along, even the white bhuts...It's never to late to plant. I'm finishing up my last few flats of C.Chinense, all are moving into 3" pots.
Cool bud shots!........Check the stems on the TSX and the 7congo, ....its early in the day here and my eyes are bad, I just want to make sure, for u that those white specks on the stems arn't "mealy bugs". With large fans running I've seen perlite on mine.............lol
Hey post some more "macro shots".....close-ups are always cool!
Well time to head off for work....... .......but the weekends just beyond the horizon!
Enjoy ,

Sorry about the wait guys. Spent the day with the family and started getting the backyard ready yesterday. So for once part of my weekend update will actually be on the weekend lol.

Aaron

Thanks Aaron! After seeing JRs pics of his TSXMorango plants I don't see any purple with em so it should be really interesting to see what the pods end up looking like. All the purple plants I have I know for a fact will be some crazy new unstable cross.. Which leads me to wonder what green plants will end up being the same way lol. I won't mind growing something that wasn't what I thought it was though. That's half the fun! Yeah this weather sucks.. here in a week or so I'm gonna elect one of the plants to do a trial run in one of the GH's overnight to see how it holds up. I'm getting to the point of having no other option lol..

As for your questions.. I don't soak my heavier soil overnight. It doens't need to be soaked.. I'm guessing by the fact your transplanting that your using a heavier medium as well so no, don't worry about that step. Just make sure to water after transplant. The only time I've soaked or mashed water into soil was when I was using the starting medium (hoffmans) because it is so light and fluffy it doens't absorb the water without a bit of help at first. Bottom water is the way to go, top watering is okay if you have some fans going IMO.. No fans+topwatering will give you mold & pests. I JUST started top watering outside with a hose.. The only reason I started top watering is to get them ready for the heavy spring rains that they're gonna have to deal with here in WA.. whether it helps out at all IDK.. Just trying it out I guess :)

I'm watering about once every 4-5 days as well now that they're in gallon pots.. in the 3.5X5s I was watering every 2-3 days. Yours should be fine. I'd recommend keeping that fan going while the lights are on.. I only turn the fans off at night. Keep me posted dude! Thanks for stoppin by.

I'm stunned, what an beautifull plants, Brandon! You must be a proud father Must admit I'm a bit jealous, mine doesnt look as good as yours

Lol. Thanks meat! I'm the proud father that see's his kids are all grown up now and would prefer they start helping pay rent if they don't move the hell out of my house soon.

Hey Greg!
Plant sale.. lol. Nobody would buy em even if I wanted to sell em, I've put some much damn time and money into this that I'd be charging a freaking premium that no one would pay! lol. With the rotating factor the plants are starting to get taller in a quick hurry since they're getting less light so I'd have to agree with you, a ft+ should be the height they are come plant out time. Thanks for the compliments man, I finally am getting the hang of this grow dealio... give me 10 years and I might be able to give you a run for your money  okay maybe 20 years lol.. Thanks for lookin out and noticing the those tiny white specks, great eye man! You guessed it though, it's perlite lol. That stuff gets everywhere with the big fans goin! I'd have to do my research but I'm fairly positive we don't have mealy bugs here on this side of the mountain.. Atleast I've never seen any. Seeing all the pests in other areas of the states makes me glad the only big problem we have up here is aphids and gnats.. I'll shoot a macro section next week for ya  They're my favorite shots to take. Once they're outside that'll be 95% of the pictures I'll post, just not much worthy of a close up just yet. Thanks for stoppin by. Enjoy your weekend dude! Now I'm the one off to work.. :(

Very very nice plants, quite a selection you have made for the varieties, keep updating the glog !

Thank you! I'm really excited to see them all start producing. I'm gonna be like a kid in a candy store this summer lol. I'll keep the updates goin! Thanks for stopping by.

Plants are really taking off Brandon. I will blow some nice tropical air your way. I have plenty to share.

Keep on keeping on bro

Jamie

Long time no talk Jamie, Thanks for stopping by! Tropical air and plenty to share? Please do. Call your friends n family and have them help! Hell can ya send me some sunshine in one of those bubble mailers?? lol. If things don't shape up weather wise I'm gonna rent a u-haul and take my plants over to your place for a few months, sound good?

Hey Brandon, see you've been real busy. That's a lot of 1 gal pots!

Hey Paul. Yes.. too busy! I can't wait to take these damn things outside, pot em up, hook em up to a drip system, and watch em grow for the rest of the year. I might just have to throw a party for myself that day lol. Weve been seeing snow lately too, it's light and melts by noon but still.. Really right now!? lol.. I hope were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for both our sakes.. Thanks for the compliments! Should be interesting to see what I'll come up with harvest wise here in the PNW growing supers.. Trinidad/India weather and PNW weather are quite opposites lol. Hope all is well with you Paul.

Looking great Brandon! I don't envy your plant rotation...but it'll all pay off in the end.

Thanks Shane! I wouldn't either lol. I'm the opposite I'm green with envy seeing your plants outside.. and your beautiful California weather... Alright I'm done thinking about it. It's just gonna give me a bad attitude for the rest of the day lol.
Hope all is good with you dude.

Looks amazing. I'm curious about the final destination for all those plants...

Thanks Charlie! I plan on keeping them all in my south facing backyard in containers. I took a look at it yesterday and tried to mentally visualize what it's gonna look like.. It's gonna be pretty nuts. I don't think I'm gonna be able to mow at all for that matter lol.. Should be quite the backyard makeover

Brandon... Dude.... You went crazy this year. Great job!

Dude... I was just telling my wife yesterday that I was wondering where the heck you've been. Long time no talk Rich!
How the hell have you been? Ah nvm... PM on the way! Thanks for the compliment, and yes, I did go crazy lol. Hope everythings goin good with you. You doing a glog this year? If your putting all your OW's in the airpruning pots you better! :)

Just one word - outrageous!
They look just great, Brandon!

Thanks Paul!
Just to let you know I'm voting for you in the upcoming glogger of the year award. lol.

Thanks for the replies everybody!
Off to work!

Sweet, thanks for the info BigC. We transplanted them right before planting the new seeds. We didn't presoak the soil, put them in with some fert and then bottom watered them. The fert we used is now gone (thankfully) we're going to switch to the one you mentioned to us. We're also going to get the rest that you told us about shortly as well so we can start adding to the soil shortly. One of the plants from Megahot is quite tall, though not at all bushy, but almost makes me want to put it outside. For now I'll have to wait and hope it can go outside soon.
Again thanks for all the help.
Aaron
